I have found the greatest yields going vertical with half idica and half sativa strains. Works great for me and I have tried them all (allmost).

I'm really glad to see this new section.I have been looking for this.My stock in the room Is High grade seeds Hash Plant and two Indicas from around town.I'm just now finding what the H.P.likes so they look a lil beat.Indies are loving the light. They have grown beautifully this run.

The future for my room is clone my selected H.P. mom and get 8 cuts in 3 gallon pots.If the pheno is stocky and short enough,No screen. If I cant keep the plant under 30" I'll regroup and grow local treats

Thanks for the new forum

These are the local treats

i don't get into the personal forum politics.

the greatest useable contribution of light in a grow room comes directly from the bulb to the canopy, through open space

Maybe it's just me, but I find it much easier to get plants super close to a bulb hung vertically....

Here's my question, if you get the plants super close to the light (say 6-8") aren't you cutting back the total area (width if you will) that the light can be cast... and the number and/or size of the plants?

Seems that if you have a bulb 2' from the canopy, you can cover 4' width no prob. If you go 6" to canopy, fig it to be appx 1', no? If applied out, isnt this a reduction in the bene's of the 360d footprint?

I guess it has to deal with how many pots and what size you have in your circle.I can only cram a certain amount in my room.I think 10 3 gallonpots and I have to hang anything else.Theres a chart around here somewhere for max lumens and what distance.I'm gonna get all I can

Mount your plants on a 'Lazy Susan' platform of some sort to help make all plants equally accessable while maintaining the plants relative position to the light, if it's a circular v-scrog as referenced above.

Hey Oregon bob,I need to make something clear here. When I say my plants are 6"-8"from the bulb, thats the closest part of the plant.I would think that my main stalks are some 15"-20"from the lamp. What has been working good on this grow is using scewers to force the buds towards the light. The scewers(sp?)work really well and can easily be repositioned.Hope this clears that up

Totally. I actually use the 1' bamboo bbq stakes to tie my main stalks to, though my pots actually get rotated appx 70d sideways, so... different set-up.

Check out what LJB hooked me up with on the other thread. Hit his original thread up as it has all the info, but my chart kinda shows where i was coming from. I could still be wrong here as not 100% confident yet, but the conclusion seems valid in that one should be attempting to have the overall canopy as far back as possible to position as many plants as possible around the perimeter. Not sure which bulbs you have, but LJB has all the conversion fig/formulas to estimate your mMol. Interesting stuff as had never seen a mj specific study before.

Peace brother!

I believe you are correct, oregon bob. We need to do a few side by sides to find the point of diminishing returns for each bulb wattage.

diameter of canopy vs. distance from bulb and total difference in yield and quality. Very interesting discussion.

Well, here we are 10 years after starting this thread doing the same ole thing, the same ole way. I have made some changes along my journey. In the begining I grew in funky shed in local organic soil with much success but times changed, had to move and got really noided out for a bit. I never left the site though, just changed my handle.

My growing tech has evolved from a single vert 400 to stacks of cmh-hps4's ,4's and 6's to where i have settled with two donuts with double stacked 400 hps bulbs

Also after the move, I couldn't keep using soil on account of no space. I live in an ant farm with people everywhere and eyes everywhere too so hydro, KISS and hempy buckets came into play.

As soon as the move happened I planned a space and squezzed all I could out of the very small back storage area.I got a 6'x 7'x8' high space for flower and a small veg spot to go with it.

Been running this way for about 5 years now and fairly well tuned.Window units and lots of carbon with two 6" fans for vents , more fans for circulation.

I have never concidered doing a flat grow hehehe

Heres my space,4 bulbs,16 plants on perpetual. Usually get 4 zips per but sometimes only 2. Plenty...

I donno, might work...
picture.php

3- HLG Saber 100s ina circle. Im going to see how they do a donut. Will be getting another bar to make it 4 to eliminate a small shadow between the bars. They run alot cooler then the stack of hps beside them... I like that.
Heres to R&D:friends:

Hey hayday, I like your growing style! How did you run your stacked cmh- hps? 4's and 6's?What where your yields? And why the switch? Thanks in advance

Hey bong lemonade ,When I bought a single hps back in 09 my friend gave an additional mh and ballast. I still use it to this day for veg .Back then I tried to stack hps over the mh mixing the spectrum but it really diddn't work too well or my skills were lacking or both.

I made a move and built a new place and power restrictions hold me back some so have been hittin it with 4 , 400 hps. This has been very efficiant and I can get between 12 and 16 plants around two donuts. Average yeild is 3 zipps per plant.

I'm trying out these LED bars now and Like what I see, I dont expect a huge in rease in yeild but its so much cooler in the space and plants seem to like it fine.

Stacked 400s are sweet though. Not too hot and put out flowers:biggrin:Terps are fine Shawkmon I got a room full of stinkers

Hey Dankster,The driver is turned all the way up right now. I have some more bars on the way and another driver so I'll turn the driver down when I have installed them. I need to get batteries for my meter to dial in the voltage but for now...
no bleaching after 5 days turned WFO
