Let Me Tell You About My Boat

Greetings and thank you.

I’m going to pick up some old pieces and share what I do with them with you.

Let’s begin.

01 Feb 19

Objectives:
- Germinate seeds. (Supposedly [1x] Blue Dream and [1x] Pineapple Express - both Regular [dice roll.])
- Locate and set up grow area (2’D x 4’W x 5’H generic black fabric/mylar tent)
- Locate, inspect, and set up lighting system (12-site E26 COB LED fixture [180W])
- Locate growing system (Modular [PVC] Low Pressure Aeroponic system)
- Modify growing system/media container (Previously 12x plots in a 14gal tote, now 1x plot in 2x 5gal buckets [minimizing clutter.])
-Locate media (net pots and foam collars)
- Set up modified growing system.
- Locate and inspect nutrient solution. (Botanicare CNS17 duo [old - 3+ years {I understand the risk.}])

All the things located in one tidy box. (Thanks, past me.) Light inspected for loose bits, individual 'bulbs' inspected for their individual cob operation. All checks out. Two previous runs with this DIY monstrosity, I'm well-impressed by the potential of consumer COB LED performance...the eventual switch to proper cxb3590 or vero29s will be bittersweet.

And set up.

Nutrients. (Old, but fine. I'm not big on non-organics, so this will be my last run with these.)

20190202_155035.jpg

Seed germination. Tried and true paper towel method.

These beans will initially be kept as small/bonsai mothers. Their subsequent clones will be the first run into maturity. (Odd to think of the mothers not reaching sexual maturity while their kin do... is asexual maturity even a thing...? Wikipedia hole, here I come.)

Cheers

03 Feb 19 (all caught up)

Objectives

- Check seeds.
- Plant if ready.
- Raise submersible pump in hydro bucket (to avoid root entanglement)

Unfurl the bean wrap.

20190203_102557.jpg

Pineapple Express quite well-germinated in less than 48 hours.

20190203_102712.jpg

Into the soil. Happy.

20190203_132135.jpg

Blue Dream peeped it's eye, but decided to sleep in. I believe I've noted that before with this particular batch. Curious.

20190203_102642.jpg

I decided to address, in very simple way, my common issue of roots being sucked in through the submersible pump. I know I could encase it in porous fabric, etc., etc. But I'm going for lazy and what's around the house. So I drilled some holes in a takeout container.

Should probably be effective. Though my misters are now about an inch below the net pot....might have lop off some of the PVC up-post to the misters.

Late to the party, not to worry.

Objectives

- Patience.

Amorphous parents.

02121.jpg

BD certainly taking it's time.

PE with vigor enough.

Basil, no sign of rooting. Pump malfunction led to severe reservoir temps (95F+) a few days back. Replaced, all is well. The weight of a field test.

Gaining momentum.

021601.jpg

Pineapple Express
021602.jpg

  • Steady as (s)he goes. Could take cuttings, but will wait for the BD to catch up.

Blue Dream
021603.jpg

  • Catching up.

Basil
021604.jpg

  • Cutting taken 06/02 (prepackaged grocery store herb)
  • First sign of roots 13/02 (even with a stint of extreme reservoir temperatures, followed by a day without spray)
  • Successful field test with root growth at 7 days. 10 days to rapid root development. Into the kitchen herb planter for the better half.
Cheers
