Fruits from the wild: Breeding with pure sativas Mextiza and Ghana

These are some Mextiza buds I forgot in a cupboard for a year. Damn! I started curing them in June 26th of 2018 and the best moment to smoke them would be last summer, but my stony brain forgot about them.



Fortunately they still carry smell and flavor, and the colour is very nice. A full metal box, maybe 60 - 80 grams of good bud.

I decided to harvest this Red Snake at 9 weeks. I believe this is the first one I get to flower properly, I had problems with others while joining diet and light hours with other strains. This one behaves like a picky motherfucker, I think that fickle is the word. Still, flavor and effect pay for it. I believe Mextiza, not being easy at all, is much easier to grow.

I've planted some of the Mextiza Thai. I believe the effect is going to be very good on these, and I can forecast they will be quite fast and strong plants. There are 16 of them, I'll cull the males as soon as I can and flower the females without taking clones. It will be just a test grow to check how the male affected the Thai Angola effect.

These are the plants I made crossing a Mextiza male with a Thai Angola female. They look different:



There are just 16 of them, I didn't want to have too many. I put them on the ground 5 weeks ago exactly. I plan to flower them as soon as possible, to get rid of the males and make a general impression of the cross. I'll get females enough for it.

I'll put them in 1l pots today, and I'll flower them when they reach 40 or 50 cm. For what I know, they won't stretch much under LEDs.

These are just some (Thai Angola) x Mextiza, there are 16 and all of them are similar.

After years crossing my Mextizas with different sativas, I guess this cross will be tasty, energetic and reasonably fast, but there are hidden surprises in genetic experiments like this one and you never know for sure what you get. I don't know how dominances will work on this one, but I guess that the Mextiza won't be that dominant in this cross as it was in other crosses, like for example with Jack Herer.

They aren't stretching at all, that's nice and possibly the lights are the reason for that.

I'll have to wait about a month before flowering them.

Mextiza Thai Angola. Magic sativa potion, I believe. There they are, I took some of them out of the tent for a better look. They look better and better every day. Now they are really growing and branching, and roots have colonized the coco, so I'll repot them and flower in one or two weeks.

The cat, as usual, enjoys eating some fine herbs.

This is a Mextiza bush just two weeks (14 days!) after setting the timer to 12/12. It is already budding while normally most of the strains just stretch for the first weeks. This plant reacts very very quickly to the switch.

This monster is the Thai Angola that came from outdoors. The pot is ridiculously little, just 3l, so it is normal it doesn't look real good. I don't know how much time it's been flowering but I believe it will need a couple more weeks.

I'm eager to see the resulting cross with my Mextiza.

These are the TAM (Thai Angola Mextiza). I've just put them in the flower room, they are still quite little for the sizes of the plants that I usually move there, but I'm afraid they stretch too much.

Remember it is the first time I grow them, so I'll test the Mextiza male I used. I don't know yet how these genetics mix.



These are two males I've already sort.



I've just realized there are some eaten leaves in the last pictures. Cat things.

In the last 10 days since I put the plants to flower they have stretched a bit, but not that much I'd expect. I believe that the kind of lights I use are behind the restrained stretch I find lately.

I've found diversity in these plants, there are some that start flowering as fast as the Mextiza, but others are slower. Some of their stems strongly smell like eucalyptus and anise.

I like diversity, in these crosses that means a nice fight between genes, and a selection could provide nice fruits. I have very good expectations with this cross.

I'll try to take some good pictures of the females.

These clips in the picture are used to tighten the rope that holds the fabric of the tent. Internal negative pressure due to extraction moves the fabric inwards, so I put a rope to avoid losing useful space.

After 25 days after switch, stretch is over and resin has started to appear. I see diversity but good looks overall. These two I pictured are just two plants out of the bunch.

I guess that under high pressure sodium they would stretch very much. Under LEDs the growth is very restrained. These plants from seed stretch much more than their parents Mextiza and Thai Angola.

The trichomes are very very little, like we should expect from a near 100% sativa heritage, and the bud formation looks much better than Thai Angola's.

I hope they don't need much more time, but since I know how both Mextiza and Thai Angola behave, I guess they'll be ready before 10 weeks.

im starting to be patient now in my late 40's ...i think im ready to take on half my limit of plants devoted to varietals like these. I grew mangobiche once......gave up too early!
