I watch the NFL regularly but ive never gone to an nfl game, and not for lack of money either. Ive gone to live sporting events before and found that i preferred the comfort of my home: it's less hassle (no driving, parking, etc), way less cost (no $100-400 tickets, no $6 hot dogs or $10 light beer), and it's honestly a better view on tv (unless you're sitting front row 50 yd line, or center court, etc). Plus you dont have to deal with the weather - burning up when it's hot out, freezing your bum off when it's cold.

The live experience has its benefits, you get that crowd energy in big moments that you dont get at home, but for an (admittedly) introverted cheapskate like me it's just not worth the extra expense and hassle to go to games, even when my teams are good.
Everyone has things they like to spend their money and time on that's different than their neighbors. Some people like to spend money on cars, or their house, or vacations, or clothes, or going to sporting events, or concerts. Just because someone doesn't drop a grand or two every weekend their team plays at home doesn't mean theyre poor or cant afford it. And to be fair, way less than 1% of people who watch a game are actually at the stadium.

I get that some people are upset with the nfl players kneeling, that's fine, that's their right. But Kaepernick was originally just protesting police mistreatment of minorities; with all the cell phone videos and body cam videos of police using deadly force at the slightest provocation (against minorities as well as white people), it's hard to argue that policing in this country isn't in need of some changes. I would think most cannabis users wouldn't be in favor of american criminal justice, with its emphasis on punishment over rehabilitation.

But ok, now the kneeling thing seems to be protesting racism in general. And yeah, it hasnt been cool to be a racist for decades, and we had 8 years of a black (also half white) President, so we're certainly making progress. But it's also true that the legacy of racism still haunts this country. 50 years ago there were certain areas of this country where black people had to use separate water fountains and bathrooms and eat in separate cafeterias. 150 years ago slavery was still legal. Chicago today is one of the most segregated cities in america because of decades of discriminatory real estate and mortgage practices.
It might take another 50-100 (2-3 generations) years before this country can truly move past its legacy of disenfranchisement against people of color, just as it took centuries for the italians and irish to stop discriminating against each other when they first came to this country.

I'd also like to point out the fact that now the struggle is not so much white vs black/whatever, but the haves vs the have nots. The oligarchs vs the proletariat. And the people in charge, with the money and the power, thrive when the other 99% fight and bicker with each other, scrapping over the 30% of wealth that's our dwindling piece of the pie, while their share grows ever larger...

This is just like, my opinion though...

My problem with kneeling is the fact they are using their jobs to gain exposure for a cause. How many of us would have a job if during a meeting with the boss we took a knee?

I'm all for freedom of speech, equal rights, etc. But don't muck up a GAME you get paid MILLIONS to PLAY. After the game, go kneel out front of the police station. Or the town hall. Whatever.

During the National Anthem at a sporting event? Nah, go to hell. It doesn't take a hero to pull that shit on TV, it takes a hero to kneel outside in the rain or snow in front of the place you are protesting. Not using the NFL coattails to get some attention.
