Hello All,
I'm hoping for some advice on watering. I've read so often that the most common newbie mistake over watering that I may be fearing over watering to a fault.

I've been keeping a very close eye on them and letting the soil get nice and dry between each watering. This time they're showing signs of needing to be watered. I'm sure they'll perk right back up by tomorrow (I watered them today) but, my question is this; is it bad to allow the plants to get a little dry too many times throughout the grow? Or, should I let them get to this point every time between watering. In other words, should I let the plants tell me when they NEED to be watered as a rule of thumb?

Also, this Monday 4/25 will be the beginning of week 7. When should I be seeing signs of sex? I don't see any indications yet but I may be overlooking something that a more experienced grower would see. And of course I'm getting impatient.

Thanks All!

I love perforated pots, I don't use commercial ones- I just drill the hell out of their container and line it with weed block fabric, adaptation from stoned trouts method. I even do this in beer cup stage... This gives you more wiggle room by virtually eliminating overwater symptoms....

Came in handy as arrival of my last son ca,e close I didn't want them to get feather light before rewatering- fearing if I was called to hospital when they were feather light but before I could water them they may crisp up while I was gone for a coup,e days... Was nice keeping them solidly moist and having no issue

Blumat users always have moist soil- with enough oxygen the dry out is not as necessary as we've always been told but yea don't wanna drown them....

Perforate your pots and if your tempted to overwater your girls won't suffer...

This sounds like great advice Huckster79! I'm definitely gonna try it on the next time transplant. Congrats on the arrival of your last son too :)

Howdy all, Opinions and advice always welcome here.... How do they look? Being my first grow and all, I think they've been very healthy throughout. I'm really hoping I can keep them healthy and maximize their potential! Any suggestions on nutes, watering schedules, when/how often to flush or anything else I should know during flowering? Anything you feel like throwing at me will be appreciated :)

When are plants most likely to show signs of hermie and what should I look for?

When are plants most likely to show signs of hermie and what should I look for?

Howdy folks, I'm posting this question on all my threads. A squeaky wheel gets the oil. As each day passes, I'm getting more and more nervous about any of these becoming hermies. Does anyone know approximately when they're most likely to shows signs if they do hermie? Also, do I just look for balls similar to what I found on the male or are there any other signs I should be aware of?

Here are some pics that I took yesterday. The last 3 pics are of my fist successful clone! YEAH, I'm excited!!! I have about 5 different methods going as experiments. I found these roots yesterday, coming out of one of my cuts 1 week after cutting. If you look at the pic in the bin, it's the tall cut that rooted. Here's the method I used.

I put 3 cuts into 3 rapid rooters, put those into 1 solo cup filled with sphagnum moss. I kept the moss wet which in turn keeps the rapid rooter moist. That way I didn't have to worry much about it drying out on me to easily. I put it into my veg bin which has a couple of T5 florescents, some CFL's and 1 standard LED bulb that goes into a regular screw bulb socket. They're on an 18/6 light cycle. Oh and BTW, my plants have been doing great in this bin.

I had a bag of sphagnum moss at my house for my geckos. The last time I changed it out, I was thinking it may be a useful medium for cloning, so I looked into it. I found some people that have been successful using sphagnum moss but most of the setups I found were more elaborate and would have taken some time to build something with bins, water pumps and heaters. I found this to be quick and easy so wanted to pay it forward. I'll keep you all posted on success rate (%'s) as I go. I hope somebody else finds this to be helpful and useful!

Thanks!

Starting to see nice flowers - Day 19 of 12/12

Starting to see nice flowers - Day 19 of 12/12

I'm starting to see some real flowers on my first grow and I'm getting excited. I do have 1 plant that has some leaves (very few) that are yellowing and have brown spots but doesn't seem to be effecting it. It is actually doing the best out of the 4 of them.

Do these look okay for day 19 of 12/12? I don't know what to expect but I can't wait to find out.

Runoff Soil PH

Runoff Soil PH

Howdy All,
First thing first, I want to thank The International Cannagraphic Community and website hosts for all I have learned within this forum and especially thank everyone that has personally helped me by posting answers to my questions. Things are going well; even better than expected, but there's always room for improvement in my eyes.
I'm providing you all with as many details as I can to document what I've done so far. I figure I can use it for my reference and hopefully others will will find some useful information here. Plus, as we all know, the more information provided allows for better quality feedback. I'll do my best to remember as much as I can to date and I'll try to a better job keeping active with all my grows going forward. And believe me, there will be more to come :plant grow:

Conditions:
Here's the lighting schedule to date.... Don't ask lol
3 weeks T5 and CFL Florescent 24h/day - March 7th - Mar. 27th
1 week 1000W Ultra Sun HPS 22/20 - March 28th - Apr. 3rd
1 week 1000W Ultra Sun HPS 20/4 - Apr. 4th - Apr. 10th
1 week 1000W Ultra Sun HPS 18/6 - Apr. 11th - April 17th
3 weeks 1000W Hortilux MH 18/6 - Apr. 18th - May 9th
3 weeks 1000W Hortilux HPS 12/12 - May 10th - May 31st (today)
(~5 more weeks of 1000W Hortilux HPS 12/12 remain)
Temperature - ~73° - 77°F
Humidity - ~55% - 65%
Soil - Weeks 1-6 Happy Frog
Soil - Weeks 6-12 ProMix
Nutes - General Hydroponics 1/2 recommended dose as prescribed on the box. I'll try to keep better logs of the water schedule going forward.

I watered them heavy today (to about 20% runoff) with just R/O and Cal-Mag.
I checked the runoff PH with a digital and all 4 were reading between 5.6 - 5.7***IS THAT GOOD????****
I'm thinking of increasing my nutes to 3/4 or even full strength recommended on the next watering.***ANY SUGGESTIONS?????***

It all seems to be working and I think things are going pretty well for my first grow. I've had some yellowing (with brown spots) mostly with just 1 of the 4 ladies but it doesn't seem to effect her production. Now I just need to figure out:
The best watering cycle going forward??? how to recognize when they're ready???? and the best way to pick and cure them????

Howsit buddy,

Seems to me like you doing a pretty good job on your own. The girls look amazing and you should already feel proud of how far you have come with little to no support. I think at this stage you should trust your instincts, its done you good so far. Try not to overthink things and just go with your gut feeling.
There is a lot of information on harvesting and curing will try and find some links for you to read through.

Keep the updates coming buddy.

Coming Along

Hey 420Grow, the kids are doing well. Here are a few pics of day 30 flower. I'm thinking we got another 4 - 5 weeks. They don't seem to be growing at the rate I'd like to see but they have a ton of sugar :) I had quite a bit of yellowing happening with 2 of the 4. I think it's either mag or N deficiency. I flushed them out completely about a week ago with just R/O and CalMag, cut all the dying yellow leaves off I started back with nutes on the next watering (a couple days ago). I hope they have another growth spurt or 2 over the next 4 weeks! have no clue what I'm going to yield but I can't wait to find out!

Beautiful plants, SS! Don't stress too much about yield, as there's nothing you can do about it at this point. But I'm sure you'll get some nice results, especially for a 1st grow.

I'm not an expert by any means, but did you switch to feeding them 3/4 dosage (at least)? Those yellow leafs are signs of N def or underfeeding. It may be just the normal "leafs going yellow before harvest", but a few of the middle/top leafs (not just bottom ones, like it's normal with N def) have that pale underfeeding green color.

Thanks MJ! I did up the anti on the nutes, going 3/4 then full recommended dose but, it hasn't seemed to help with the yellowing. I actually have some leaves curling upward now. Do you know if that's a sign of overfeeding?

I'm getting close to my final watering which will be 1 last full flush 2 weeks prior to harvesting. Any advice on this would be much appreciated. Should I use cleaning solution and molasses on the last watering? Is there a specific brand of molasses that works better than others? I would be most grateful if anyone can share any ideas or 'rules of thumb' when harvesting/curing. :thank you: all for your help with this first grow!!!!!

Hey 420, How's it going? The kids are coming along wonderful. Thanks for asking. Actually, another thread I started a while back has been much more active so I've been keeping that updated more than this one. Here's a link to the thread https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=326668
I have pics posted that I took a couple days ago. I'm looking at harvesting in about 1 more week :) It's getting difficult to wait :)
