oh and those ^^^ are a model that does not have leads
only internal sensing for room humidity

take that link and scroll until you see the model that does what you want
some of the auctions which cost more for the same thing have better translations and descriptions, so sometimes I read a description then search for a cheaper auction on that model of thing

the ones with leads its nice to buy one and see how well sealed up the sensor tip is before buying several, if you want to stick them into wet soil

thermo.jpg

just got these (4) thermometers today $5.58
the tips are nicely sealed

Wiring Computer Fans

Wiring Computer Fans

Does anyone know how I can convert computer fans into a 110V plug outlet? Can I take any old plug and wire it up or do I need to find an old plug with the same Volt (i.e. 12 Volts)?

Here are some pics of my 5 plants as of this morning and some pictures of the fans I'm talking about. Don't be shy, Please reply!

Thank you... Babadeee badeee badats all folks!

Make sure the power supply adapter you use is rated 12 volts or you may burn out your fan.

Computer fans run at different voltages. Some are DC some are AC. Be sure to know which.

As for watering try to water less and see how the plants respond. Measure the amount and know if they are growing healthy they will require more water at a time. It's fairly pointless to soak where there are no roots yet. The roots need oxygen. This is one aspect that is easier about hydro.

If your plants droop it could be too much or too little water/oxygen. Just be observant and it becomes obvious.

Update - 14 Days After Transplant

Hello Cannabuds,

I wanted to post the latest pics. These were all topped about 1 week ago. I think I need to do a bit more pruning down low.

Should I be keeping the bottom branches pruned throughout the entire grow?

I'm also hoping I can see signs of sex soon. How early could they show signs of sex?

Thanks!

Hey SuperSativa!

You might want to water those plants a little less :)

As far as pruning, I'd back off of the watering a bit and let them get bigger before removing anything. Once they're bigger, you'll want to either thin your plants to allow for light penetration or crop the lower half of the plant ("lolly popping").

Thanks for the advice perfectgrower! Can you really tell they're over watered just by looking at the pics? ]

Here are some pics of their progress a from 2 days ago (before and after pruning). You mentioned thinning them out to let light through and it seemed they were definitely due for that at least.

I also took some pictures that hopefully shows their sex. It looks to me like they're all females but I'm probably not looking at the right thing and it's probably too early to tell. I feel like the plants should be taller at this point as well. They're about 1 foot tall and 6 weeks in.

Thank you all!

I always keep the ventilation going 24/7. Im talking fans, intake and out, etc. 1000 Watts should far away the plant but still as close as can get it it. I generally lower my lights a few inches every couple days until my plant tells me its too close. And depending on your grow style and plants should determine how much to water. I grow organically so i rarely water till its any run off and never had any issues so far. With bottled nutes you want to see run off a little more often to help reduce salt build ups. Some plants require less or more so also take that in consideration. I think for new growers the most common mistake is doing too much, sometimes just sitting a few days will be all you need, your plants will tell if they need something if your paying close attention. Good luck and happy 420

Under-watering due to fear of Over-watering

Under-watering due to fear of Over-watering

Hello All,
I'm hoping for some advice on watering. I've read so often that the most common newbie mistake over watering that I may be fearing over watering to a fault.

I've been keeping a very close eye on them and letting the soil get nice and dry between each watering. This time they're showing signs of needing to be watered. I'm sure they'll perk right back up by tomorrow (I watered them today) but, my question is this; is it bad to allow the plants to get a little dry too many times throughout the grow? Or, should I let them get to this point every time between watering. In other words, should I let the plants tell me when they NEED to be watered as a rule of thumb?

Also, this Monday 4/25 will be the beginning of week 7. When should I be seeing signs of sex? I don't see any indications yet but I may be overlooking something that a more experienced grower would see. And of course I'm getting impatient.

Thanks All!

Howsit Buddy,

Your babies are looking absolutely wonderful. As i just started my first ever grow im in no position to give any solid advice so im just here to admire and hopefully learn from the posts here.

If i could just chip in about the fans, i have 2 fans in my case in a push pull configuration. I got them from old pc's that i have. They are both 12V .45A fans and i run them using an old router power supply rated at 12v 1.0A. I was told that as long as the added amps are less then the rating on the power supply then all would be fine.

Update - 2 days after triggering 12/12

Greetings Ganja Growers.... Thank you all once again! Here's the latest:
I switched to 12/12 - 2 days ago and now I'm happy to say my first grow is doing much better than I ever imagined they would. They've stretched out 4 inches in 2 days and now I'm confident that I have at least 2 females. I can't identify males so I have to wait until I see pistils before I'm sure I got females.... I'm going to give them another 5 days of 12/12 and then I'll yank the ones that haven't show pistils. At the rate these are going now, I'm getting worried about the light/ceiling height. I think I'll need to do some LST if that's the case (unless someone has another alternative/suggestion). Any and all advice is definitely appreciated!

420Grow, I checked out your thread. Looks like you're off to a good start. Hit me up if you have any questions. I'm not all that far ahead of you but I am learning more everyday!!!!

Peace out!

Update - 7 Days Into 12/12

Update - 7 Days Into 12/12

Hey All, Here's an update 1 week into 12/12. I've attached a few pics of I took today of the 4 ladies. I'm now sure these 4 are females. I also have pics of the male that I yanked as soon as I noticed it about (right after I took the pics)... The 4 females are doing great but one of them is about 4 - 5 inches taller than the other 3 so I started a little LST by tying some branches down, hopefully allowing the others to catch up. What do you all think? Anything you can see that looks off?
The pics of the roots are from the male. Not sure if anyone can tell me anything by looking at the roots but I'm happy to learn so please speak up!!!

Thanks!

Well everything about these plants look off to me i think you should consider swapping them with mine :) lol

Just kidding man, they look awesome im so jealous. I think the LST was a good move to keep her down to earth. Have you got any pics of how you tied them down? I will be LST'ing my girls so they stay small aswell so any guidance is welcome.

I didn't take any pics of the actual tie-down but I just used zip ties and the plant clips shown in the attached picture. I'm not sure how hard these would be to get in S. Africa... You may be better off with a SCROG net in a PC grow. You can probably modify a fish net or just make it out of string. That's what I'd do... I'm actually thinking of doing a SCROG with my next grow. I'll be sure to keep you all posted!!!

Im sure i could find something like those at our gardening center. Will have a look this weekend. I plan on doing the scrog in addition to the LST, but will see how the grow progresses. Im definitely miles away from your grow and i hope mine turns out some what close to your girls.

Keep the updates coming man.

PLEASE HELP!!!
I'm starting to lollipop these bitches and I'm getting into a bit of a debate with my father. He wants to just cut the fan leaves and leave the shoots. I think we should either cut the lower branches off or leave them on (not just cut the fan leaves off). I'm having a hard time finding good information on this topic.

Can someone/anyone/everyone please chime in on this? Is there any reason you wouldn't want to cut off the lower fan leaves while leaving the branches? I wish I could explain my question better. We want to thin out the bottom while some of the branches but just cutting the fan leaves? Are there any negative effects to doing this?

Thanks!
SuperSativa

Remove lower branches as the leaves will just try to re-grow and take away plant production from flowers. Don't remove more than 25% of lower foliage at one given time.
