We can add to this as we go along...

Here are yet more great resources for studying topics discussed in this sub forum.

The journal of Plant Physiology offers tons of full text, and free, papers on a myriad of topic we will cover in this sub-forum:

more homework ;)

......This is without a doubt, one of the best and free resources of academic level plant physiology info online

The 4th and 5th edition are companions to the 4th and 5th edition of the seminal work (book) "Plant Physiology" by Lincoln Taiz and Eduardo Zeiger. I highly suggest people purchase the 5th edition of the book (released June 15, 2010) for even more info!

One can teach themselves most topics of plant physiology using the book and online companion. What is really great about the online companion is it has various sections, such as (from the 5th edition):

* Topics
* Essays
* Study Questions
* Readings

The "study questions" section is great! It will allow you to test yourself with the same level of info you would get in many plant physiology classes at a University.

Of the two editions, the 5th should be your go-to resource, but I will post both for reference.

Here is the 5th edition of the book: http://www.sinauer.com/detail.php?id=8667

Here is the online companion to the 5th edition: http://5e.plantphys.net/

Here is the online companion to the 4th edition: http://4e.plantphys.net/

Happy reading!!!

and more

Hey all,

There is a great movement to put real science in the hands of amateurs, those without advanced degrees, but not any less of real scientists. This topic is pretty vast, so I will post a good starting resource.

Ex.:

I do not (yet) have an advanced degree, but that doesn't mean I am any less of a scientist than those with advanced degrees (ex. Doc's, PhD's, etc). A degree alone does not a scientist make. Drive, intelligence and money (for resources) can make a scientist out of anyone without a degree

Look into "DIY-BIO" if you are interested in that topic:

* "DIYbio: An Institution for the Amateur Biologist": http://diybio.org/

The difference between a "professional" and "amateur" biologist is a degree and fancy title, that's it; as long as the amateur has money for resources and equipment...

Homework! what is this grade school, I am not smarter then a 5th grader. I have burn out all but two of my brain cells and their flickering.:blowbubbles:

i find good info on ehow.com related to all aspects of plant grow. Thanks for the extensive links. bookmarked for the future use.

taiz and zeiger is an excellent reference. finding a way to access google scholar articles (like through a university library or something like that) is a must for anyone who wants to better understand the variety of plant sciences that will make you a more informed and better grower.

Scientific Journals
These can be searched very easily when using simple Google search codes. For whatever site and subject you want to seach simply type into Googles seach bar 'site:' followed by (without spaces) the website's url without the "www." then a space, and then use google as you would. For example, if you wanted to search Annals of Botany articles for stuff on Ascorbic acid you would enter into Google's search bar "site:aob.oxfordjournals.org ascorbic acid" (without quotations, and the space between the o and the rg that magically appears that i cant edit out)

subbed and THANK YOU! I'm about to take the plunge with thin layer chromotography. I know a few here have been disparaging on TLC, but I think it's the way to go...I personally don't want only corporation with deep pockets claiming only gas chromo is the ONLY way. It's not. Let's keep things moving in the right direction, the hands of the people.
