⇧Brother OneHitDone's HydroGrowLed MEEt's LETTUCE Grow Test⇧

hi OneHitDone i dont get this grow why join a cannabis growing forum.too grow lettuce
come on bro get the cannabis seeds popped.because thats what we want too See atb Rab.c

It was a challenge that we took on actually. It is my understanding that OHD has been trying to grow natural lettuce under LED for quite some time. It's his hobby next to growing weed. When I came back online, a challenge was thrown my way as to whether or not my lights could grow natural lettuce. Many people had followed his lettuce tests and postulated that if my lights could do what no other could, they would be interested in purchasing them. OHD stated that until a LED light could impress him with lettuce, he wouldn't try them in his cannabis op. So the lettuce is a litmus test to see what our spectrum can do. I think it's great because here we are only 40 days after the test began with results, and already another test is underway with a spectral revision.

One of the reasons I took on this challenge is that I know our spectrum can grow lettuce freaky fast, but we've always seen a thickened leaf and sometimes a leathery texture issue. OHD was willing to test spectral variations and work with me on fine-tuning a light for lettuce specifically. This is incredibly valuable to me, because lettuce is a very large commercial crop and there are many indoor, multi-layer rack facilities growing it. If I can come in with a LED that not only grows incredibly fast, but produces completely natural heads of lettuce (which other LEDs are not doing), I'll have an easier time with commercial lettuce producers adapting to my technology. Plus I really love spectral science! But ultimately I asked OHD to post his journal to ICMag so that others who are interested in spectrum could follow along :)

Day 38 and I am going to go ahead and chop these tomorrow. A few issues on some and some look beautiful. Gonna make The Big salad for sure!

Day 7 for batch 2 under the 5%B 10%G 85%R spectrum

What height is the new lettuce light? First batch looked great! Here's to hoping the second batch looks even better

hi hydrogrowled thanks for the info. i will need to find you a video of lettuce being grown
in a hydro shop using led bars from Secret jardine and they are only 55watts each and are doing a good job.

Pretty much any LED light can do a good job of growing lettuce or any other plant these days, but growing a plant is only one half of the equation.

Lettuce is a pretty spectrally-sensitive plant, meaning alterations to the spectrum make a decent impact on the way it grows. What we are focusing on is eliminating morphological changes to leaf structure through spectral revisions.

In the beginning of OHD's first run (just ended) the plants were showing a leathery texture on the leaves and produced thicker leaves overall. OHD theorized that this was due to excess light intensity, while I thought it was more spectrum-related. The light was raised, intensity was lowered and it did lessen the unwanted growth characteristics, but did not eliminate them. So I used my background to modify our spectrum to eliminate these issues.

The lower you go in blue wavelengths (our lowest is 440nm), the more the blue light will cause a thickening of leaf tissues. Likewise the higher percentage of blue, the more this will happen. 740nm can also cause changes to leaf structure, and considering lettuce is not a shade plant, nor does it grow tall requiring the extra penetrative far-red light, I felt that our 4:1 ratio was too high. I eliminated the 440nm from the spectrum, took out 1/2 the FR we are using, and then replaced those LEDs with 640 and 660nm. Now we sit back, watch and see how these changes affect the next batch of lettuce. If we still see an issue, we make another change and keep doing so until we have the picture-perfect head of lettuce. It's a fun little science project :tiphat:

So today is like day 39ish and I harvested.
Quite a bit of nice lettuce. Again I didn't like the looks of the butter crunch so shit canned them. I am pretty picky on my greens.

Shot of the full breakdown all manicured up and also the head I would consider the prize winner of the bunch and a single random leaf for scale. We aren't growing bonsai's here!

And the Root Beards

Overall these plants on Day 11 look to be just a tad bit larger than the previous run and the coloration isn't nearly as dark green, which hopefully means we'll be avoiding that leathery texture issue. I really do love your lettuce grow! :)

Comparing the two photo's from batch one and this spectrum altered batch - these plants appear to be going Ape Shit!!

Isn't it amazing how such small tweaks can result in such huge changes in growth rate/yield? Glad to see the revision is bringing about positive changes for your plants. That's quite an astounding comparison

Quick Day19 update then bouncing out of town in the morning. Hopefully that weirdo @Big Perm isn't following me :p

Plant middle back has some mutation issue so ignore it.

Finally had a chance to grab some pics.
Day 30 for the 5%R 10%G 85% R Plants.
Harvested 4 just like in the first round to make room for the remaining 5 to grow larger

And the first pick all manicured and ready for the big salad
