"Apollo11 Mutts" under 250w HPS in my Closet!!

JPG - My thoughts exactly. The 150HPS is officially in full operation!!

Kweezy - Great job man! Very awesome bud both quality and yeild for your first time and especially for bagseed. What a great first run, now you just have to perfect your growing conditions, get some genetics and you will be set! Just imagine how much more you could get now that you have one excellent grow under your belt, kudos to yoU! +rep for sure!!

In other news, I officially have 568 glorious watts of light in my closet over my 9 beautiful ladies. I rigged up a piece of aluminum that came with a dryer vent kit over my existing 250w reflector. I cut one hole in the reflector to mount the socket for my 150HPS, so now I have a double long reflector with a 250 and 150 HPS in line with each other. For some extra light on the sides I have also added a simple fixture with a Y adapter and 2 42w CFLs to each side of the closet.

My main reason for adding the light was the low temps of the closet after getting the exhaust fan setup. At night, since I never turn the exhaust off, it was getting down to like 59F and after being on for 12 hours was barely breaking 70F, WAY too low!! Now with the added light, the canopy temp was 79-80 and the temp down at the base of the plants was 76-77. Much more acceptable.

When I get home tonight I will do a full picture update of the plants and the new reflector/light combo. Today marks 2 weeks in flower and 4 of the 9 plants STILL do not have any suitable growth for clones. The 5 in the back have cuttings over 12" long!! So I will try my hand at cloning this weekend, taking 2-3 from each female that has cuttings available, so should be 10-15 cuttings total for now.

I measured my tallest plant for the first time in a few days. 4 days ago she was 26" and last night I measured her at a whopping 36.5", good god I hope she doesnt get any taller. I can take my HPS' up another 2" then they are MAXED! I could always remove the shelf, but whats the point of having 4' plants under such low wattage when only 12-18" of the plant will have decent bud? Maybe Ill just tie the taller ones down a bit who knows. Stay tuned for tonights update!! I will post very early tomorrow morning actually, considering my "evening" starts at midnight.

Peace

DAY 41

Plant Stage: Flower (Day 14)
Light Cycle: 12/12
Light: 250w HPS, 150w HPS, 2x42w 2700k CFLs, 2x42w 6500k CFLs (568w Total)
Current Medium:
MG Organic + Perlite + Bone Meal
Current Nutrients: Schultz 10-15-10 Every other watering @ full strength
Strain: Various Apollo11 Crosses

OK, got a few changes and lots of pics. I cleaned out the closet real well and took the cabinet out that I used to start this batch. I will be using that cab for some clones that will be donated to a friend to keep the strain or strains alive. I am not going to go to all the work of lightproofing the cab 100% or the flower chamber in the closet, so I need to have the cabinet outside the closet. Once this batch of clones are fully rooted and transplanted into 16oz cups, they will be taken and I wont need the cab up & running anymore.

So, without further delay, on with the pictures before this gets too long. Due to the low temps, I decided it was necessary to add more light. I rigged up my 150w HPS from my minifridge in line with the 250w HPS I have been using. I dont want to invest anymore money into this so I used what I had around the house.

Drilled a hole in the framework of the reflector to mount the socket and cut a notch out for the wires.
picture.php

Here it is all put together and hanging up. The makeshift reflector is more for keeping the light out of my eyes than anything, but it seems to be working ok as a reflector. You can also see the fixture, Y adapter and 2 42w CFLs on the wall in this pic. I added a set to each side wall.
picture.php

Side view of the new "super reflector" :)
picture.php

And now for the lineup. I have had to break down and start tying branches down due to the height of some of these monsters. The 5 in the back row are the tallest by far, topping out at 37" on the right. Thats a yard (3ft) stick next tot the tallest one.
picture.php

The 3 in the middle of the back row were staring to get too close for comfort.
picture.php

I strung a piece of hemp yarn across the closet to tie the back plants down to. It worked out OK, but ideally I should have started LST a LOOOONG time ago lol.
picture.php

And now for the 4 gimpy lil gals. Maxing out at 28.5" tall, these 4 are staying alive but not fattening up much. I cant take a single cutting of any of these 4 yet. I dont know how they all stretched so bad, I kept the lights as close a possible the whole grow and started with 6500K CFLs....? The girls on the far left is the one that spent almost 30 days in a 16oz cup. I dont expect much off her, maybe 1/2 oz.
picture.php

Here are all the ladies, freshly watered and back home. I am using a nice 3/4 thick board set on 2 blocks to raise the smaller 4 up, and a cardboard box under the 2 smallest ones. The canopy is somewhat even now, but more importantly the front plants are on a sturdy shelf now.
picture.php

And last, a couple top shots with flash on and off.

Flash On
picture.php

Flash Off
picture.php

I plan on devising a cardboard light trap for the bottom of the door. There is roughly a 1.5" gap under my dor and I have been propping things in front of it to keep light from going in during lights out. I plan on making a "periscope" style cardboard trap to put on the inside of the door, without the mirrors of course. After that everything should be pretty well setup for me to just sit back and water them till April.

As long as the plants all fill in nicely and don't buckle under the weight of their buds I think the yield should be very nice. If the back 5 plants develop as well as the one I grew before, I would say 1.5oz each would be very doable.

Wish me luck! All comments and questions welcome!

Let the cloning begin!!!

Let the cloning begin!!!

OK, I know its a little late but I have finally decided to start taking some cuttings off my 5 large ladies. I decided to take 2 cuttings from each of the 5 "back row" plants. I took either the lowest 2 or the next 2 up if the lowest ones looked poor.

I took a bunch of pictures again so lets get the ball rolling. I used the top of a rubbermaid container as a working surface. I bought some Green Light rooting hormone, used Rapid Rooters and used a brand new razor blade to cut with. The cuttings in the picture were average size of all the cuttings I took with the exception of 2 or 3.
picture.php

I wanted to experiment with different methods so I planted some that were cut long enough to use the lower fan leaf nodes as sites for new root growth by cutting the fan leaves off and making sure that section of stem made it into the rapid rooter. I cut pretty much the rest of them nice & short so they wouldnt lean over easily. I cut most large leaves and left a few upper leaves. I clipped the ends off of any leaf that was already dropping at the tip, otherwise left them alone. Here are the first 4 I did on Sunday.
picture.php

Tonight after work I took cuttings from the remaining 3 back row ladies. I definitely took the shortest cutting tonight. It will be neat if it survives but it may be a bit TOO short. heres a pic :)
picture.php

The 4 "front row" plants have branches at the bottom that are barely 2 inches long, I will wait a couple more days and clip them I think. For now I just have 10, 2 from each of the back row plants. Here they are
picture.php

Side shot to compare height.
picture.php

Dome on, plants and inside of the dome sprayed. In about 6 hours or so there will be no more moisture on the "ceiling" of the dome, but the walls will still have drops. The dome doesnt fit very tight but I think its working ok. Still spraying everything down twice daily, maybe 3 times.
picture.php

And what would a picture update be without a least a tease of whats going on in the closet eh? Ill post a nice update in a few more days, bud check out the new developments. As you can see things are beginning to frost over, and every budsite is starting to look OH SO familiar to me. I really think, for he most part, that they will end up looking just like the beautiful A11 "mutt" I grew a while back.
picture.php

I just realized I havent posted pictures of the last plant I harvested form this batch of seeds. With any luck, all 9 of these will be bigger badder versions! Here are some harvest shots of the last one i grew. Unfortunately I didnt take any dry bud shots, just shots of the plant the day she came down.
picture.php

picture.php

Top bud here, she leaned into a CFL a day before harvest. you can see the fried spot in the top right.
picture.php

picture.php

And here was one of her lowest branches. literally one of the 2 lowest branches on the plant. After a 2 hour quick dry it was some of the best smoke I have had. Just tasted like shit haha!
picture.php

The height issues still persist, and by god they just wont stop trying to get taller. I have had to start taking drastic measures to keep things under those lights. Heres an example of the tops of 2 of my tallest gals tied down to a line of hemp I strung across the closet. Gotta do what ya gotta do eh? The above plant was harvested at 26" tall. I STARTED to LST the ones I have now at 37". If the largest one was not tied down Id say she would be 40" or more now. Just nuts.
picture.php

Thats it for now, pic update of the whole closet soon. Hope you guys enjoy the pics, let me know if I am overdoing it or if I am leaving anything out.

This morning I noticed the clones are starting to sag just a bit more. I would appreciate any advice based on the above pics. Should I cut more off of each or do they look ok? Should I work on making my humidity dome air tight or is everything ok as long as there is SOME moisture collecting on the inside of the dome?

When I get home from work is usually the longest the clones will go without a good spraying. by that time, the only moisture on the inside of the dome is on the sides but nothing on the top. As stated before, the dome fits over the tray like it was made for it, but just doesn't give an air tight seal.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. I used JJScorpio's guide for cloning and as far as I know I did everything right, but its my first time too so who knows right? lol

Thanks guys

How are the clones looking KB, any better? I wish I could steer you toward an answer but I don't know enough about it to be of much help.

I do have a request though. How about a couple of shots of the closet taken where you can see the whole setup or at least the lights, plant, and pots all in the same shot. If thats possible, I'd love to see the whole thing! Sorry to sound like such a pot perv but if your gonna give out the porn, you might as well take requests right, haha

OK time for another official update and I took a bunch of pics as usual. JPG I made sure to get some good full closet shots for ya, and I remember how much you love the fan leaf trich porn, so hold on to your seat :)

I am more and more astounded with this grow every day. By the end I will have more bud in my little closet than I had ever imagined being in there at once. Lets get these pics flowing...

I have finally removed the front "shelf" that I had all the shorter plants on. Only 1 plant out of the 4 still requires some propping up to be even with the others. I removed the front 4 to tie down some tips and fan leaves of the back 5 plants, heres a pick of all 5 in the back.
picture.php

I will most likely not ever bring the plants out again until harvest, because I have begun to tie them all to a line I strung across the closet. Before tying the front 4 to it, I decided to line them up for a pic. These are my smallest 4 ranging from 24 to 31 inches tall.
picture.php

And here are the full closet shots you asked for JPG. First off with only the back 5 in there.
picture.php

And with all 9.
picture.php

I also managed to get up close and personal for some fun shots of the "jungle". Some of these fan leaves are GINORMOUS! Check this one out....not too bad for an indoor plant.
picture.php

I have been doing some serious tying down to keep things away from those hot HID bulbs, here are 3 of the back row plants tied down as an example.
picture.php

Heres a little bud porn. Compared to just a couple days ago the buds are sooo fat. It was pretty much a cluster of white hairs not even 3days ago.
picture.php

And some up close bud shots. Check out the trich coverage even on the base of the fan leaves in these next 2 pics. Pretty amazing considering we are only 3 weeks into flower!
picture.php

picture.php

And lets not forget the clones. I sort of snapped one of the back ones in half trying to put the hood back on today, so we'll see how that goes. They are looking ok still but not great. I still havent had to add any water to the plugs they are quite moist. but I do spray generously 2 to 3 times a day.
picture.php

The main problem is not getting the temps high enough so I have added some bulbs. I put one of my 42w 6500K bulbs in there as well as 2 additional 23w bulbs. Well see if I can keep it over 70 like this.
picture.php

From now on, I wont be able to take any single plant shots, only group shots of the closet. I dont want to bother with removing a bunch of twist ties and redoing them just to take pics. So Ill try to get a lot of canopy bud shots form here on out. Im sure by next week the buds will be drool worthy!

Please provide me some feedback too. Good, bad, questions, I dont care. I just love hearing other opinions and since I keep my hobby a very close secret, its nice to know what others think. Thanks a ton guys!!

I am going out of town tomorrow and it is extremely late already so I will do a pic update as fast as I can. Didnt take a whole lot of time snapping pics so bear with me.

Things are coming along very nicely. For the most part, the plants have all stopped stretching and are focusing more on bud production right now. Out of my 10 clones planted around 7 days ago, 5 have shown roots. I will transplant those 5, take 3 to a friend and make bonsai moms out of the other 2 to give away at a later date. The clones were in need of a transplant yesterday but it was 15 degrees last night and the soil was in the garage. i was afraid the cold soil would shock the clone so I put the soil in my closet overnight. Today it was good to go. Here are all 5 clones just before transplanting. They showed roots at 6 days.
picture.php

And here they are after a quick transplant into 16oz cups.
picture.php

And for the big girls. Here is a group shot of the closet.
picture.php

More shots of the LST going on. The plant in this first shot will have a nice long, dense top cola.
picture.php

I trained this one so hard that the bend is greater than 90 degrees. She took it very well and is actually my tallest, most vigorous plant.
picture.php

Here are a couple half assed bud shots. These were the last shots I took and I planned to take better ones but my batteries died :(
picture.php

picture.php

I saved the best for last. The trichome coverage is insane on these babies. On a couple plants even the fan leaves are starting to frost up. Check this fan leaf out, even the STEM is covered in trichomes. Sounds funny, but I cant wait to smoke that fan leaf HAHA!
picture.php

picture.php

Thats all for now, Im going out of town for a few days and the wifey will have to hold the fort down. Everyone cross your fingers for me!!!! hehe!

Nice progress KB, your ladies are looking good! Congrats on the clones too, I'm sure it feels good to get success on the first try. Your closet should look wild in 4-5 weeks, I can't wait to see those pictures!

Keep it up and you should be rewarded handsomely! Good luck !

I hope everything is going well for you still KB. I've been checking for an update the last few days and I expect the next set of pics will show a big change. I do have a question, is the odor still low as flower progresses? The pictures are great but without smell-o-vision there's just no way to get the whole idea, haha!

Take care man

Hey JPG

Yeah I have been meaning to do an update for the last couple days, but Ive also had a nursery to paint and start setting up. beleive it or not the wife thinks setting up the nursery is more important than taking pics of my gorgeous ladies!! Blasphemy!! haha

As far as the odor goes, it is definitely getting a bit stronger. If I am gone all day and the door stays closed I can smell nothing when I enter the house, or even the room the closet is in. But as soon as you open the door, the room will smell for a while. Also, I got up in the attic and realized the smell is filling the attic space nicely. Every now and then you catch a faint whiff in the garage, but I think Ill turn my fan around in order to push the air outside instead of into the attic.

I plan on taking pics tonight, we will see how that goes. The change will blow your socks off!! Some of the smaller leaves have a CARPET of trichomes on them, and even some of the fan leaf stems. The buds are swelling up soooo nicely, even the side branches have fat dense buds already. My wife has to quit smoking this weekend so as a little something special we clipped one of the lower buds, dried it ont he hood for 3 hours and rolled a joint. We couldn't keep it lit very well, but about 2 hits and we were laughing hysterically at how fast it got us ripped. Tasted like ass though.

Full update with pics soon to come, sorry again for the delay.

Here's a nice fat picture update. All the buds are swelling up real big now. They are getting denser and starting to grow together at the tops. Ill toss a bunch of pictures up and let them do the talking, Im short on time as usual.

Clone Shots
All clones are just over 3 weeks old. I cant keep all 5 still in plugs but its fun torturing them and watching their roots grow throughout the tray. As you can see they're in desperate need of transplanting, the one in the last pic is the only one Im considering keeping due to its stubby stem, it would make a great bonsai mom with the 2 larger ones.

Sorry to anyone on a phone or with a slow connection :clock watch::clock watch::clock watch:

So just about 3 weeks to go i figure, maybe less. I am thinking of raising the lights soon but it will require some modification as the current hangars are maxed. Besides that Im really abusing the hell out of this grow and its just gorgeous :) I have been waiting far too long between waterings. Sometimes I go a day or longer without opening the door (I know, crazy right?? hehe) and the temps get to around 88F max, 82F avg right at the canopy. But as you can see they seem to all be doing well and they just look awesome.

Some of the tops are getting burned from time to time, but raising the lights will help that hopefully. I also removed a ton of lower growth. Pretty much, if it was on the lower half of the plant and didnt have more than a dozen hairs at the tip, it got cut. All fan leaves, since most looked like crap anyways and were dying. Since then the upper growth has taken off and it all looks MUCH greener. All of the lower growth I left are branches that now have frosty little buds on them.

Till next time

DAY 74

Plant Stage: Flower (Day 47)
Light Cycle: 12/12
Light: 250w HPS, 150w HPS, 2x42w 2700k CFLs, 2x42w 6500k CFLs (568w Total)
Current Medium:
MG Organic + Perlite + Bone Meal
Current Nutrients: 1Tbs Molasses per gallon every other watering
Strain: Various Apollo11 Crosses

Things are still frosty as ever and the buds are swelling nicely....well, most of them :( I have 2 plants that have the oddest bud formation. Ive seen it before on some bagseed I once grew that tried to get 8 feet tall. Bud this looks much better, but not anything like the other 7 plants. Most of these plants have golf ball or bigger size buds that are as dense as hedge apples. The other 2 have "strands" of bud that is not very dense and the lower buds are pretty pathetic :(

One of the 2 runts is the one I kept in a 16oz cup for over 30 days, and she IS a few days behind the rest but none of them looked like these 2 ever. Oh well, Ill get decent smoke off them but its a bit of a disappointment still. now on the other hand, the rest of the girls are just amazing looking. lets get to the pictures.

Group Shots
I unhooked the hangars I had and attached chain to the hood, allowing me to raise it another 3 inches or so. It made all the difference in the world. I had started to char a lot of the leaves and then saw a couple buds beginning to bleach so I had to do something. You can see the evidence in the last 2 pictures. I took all the CFLs out for the pictures so more buds are visible.
picture.php

picture.php

picture.php

Bud Shots
I just snapped pictures of my 4 favorite ladies. All 7 that are growing normal will yield nicely, but these 4 should be the top. I have numbered tags in each plant for when I was going to clone them all. I only cloned 1-5 so I cannot preserve the genes of 6-9 without resorting to desperate measures. The great thing is that my top picks are 1, 3, 4 & 5 :)

Plant 1 - Every bud in this shot belongs to Plant 1. The far right is the top, slightly bleached by the 250w HPS. It is tied down horizontally due to height issues.
picture.php

Plant 3 - My nicest and fattest top bud by far. Mainly becaus I let her grow a bit taller in the back so she has a longer top bud. But its as fat as it looks if not fatter, and super dense.
picture.php

Plant 4 - Another great top bud, matched only by its massive lower buds.
picture.php

Plant 5 - I like the looks of this one the most by FAR. It looks exactly like the one I grew a while back. Its not the fattest top but mainly because of the side buds growing taller than the top, so it has lots of side buds like plant 4.
picture.php

On the left is a side bud from plant 5 and on the right, a side bud from plant 5.
picture.php

Ive switched to molasses only in my water, and only every other watering. I use black strap at 1Tbs per gallon of water. I recommend mixing all you need in a glass of water real well, so its easier to add to a large container.

At this point I can see some of the plants coming down as early as next weekend (13th & 14th). Friday the 12th will be 8 weeks of 12/12. I am seeing a lot of cloudy trichs and saw my first couple of amber trichs today. And I mean that literally, after searching for 20 minutes, I found 2 :)

Till next time

Nanners!!! Doh!!!

Nanners!!! Doh!!!

Well I made a couple little discoveries shortly after posting last night, and I wasn't too pleased with them. One of the 2 plants that has airy, odd looking bud formation is starting to pop nanners out!! I sprayed the tops with water and picked off as many as I could find, which was about 6. One looked like it might have bursted open but I couldn't see any pollen splatters on any of the fan leaves near it.

Im not too awfully worried about it, mainly because I searched for at least 45 minutes looking at every visible bud on all plants and couldn't find anymore. So far they're only on that one plant which leads me to believe that it is more prone than the others to go hermie or toss out nanners under stress. A couple nights I have forgotten to put a board down in front of the door that blocks light, which Im sure is why I have nanners now.

Other than nanners I was also looking thoroughly for any swollen calyxes that looked to be housing seeds. I saw a little cluster on one bud, and I went ahead and clipped one of the calyxes off to be sure. No seed! So heres hoping that the pollen, if it made it out, didnt go too far. Ill snap a shot of the nanners if more pop up for anyone who is unsure what they look like. In a sea of green they stand out like a sore thumb if you're really looking.

Chopped the hermie early

Chopped the hermie early

Not really an official update as I didnt take pics of everything, but I do have a few pictures. Today is Day 78 from seeds, day 51 of 12/12.

My #2 plant (in order of planting not quality) was poppin up a few nanners last time I updated. Well it seems that where I pulled one, 4 more grew back. I got to inspecting and realized the whole damn plant has them, at least 3-4 per bud site. Since it looks worse than the rest, and will possibly pollinate them, I cut her down.

Right now I just have her hanging in the closet on the other side. I have been snipping a few lower branches off multiple plants recently to sample the small buds. So far every bud has been GREAT!! A full effect for sure....cottonmouth, munchies, etc. I am wondering if i should worry about the nanners drying and throwing pollen. I think I may pick through it tonight and pull out what I can, any recommendations? Anyways, on to the pictures.

Here is what I saw first thing when the lights came on. I didnt even have to go searching. Upon later searching, all the buds within these looked about the same.
picture.php

Good closeup macro. Helpful for anyone who thinks they might have them. They are very obvious once they get to this stage. You can clearly see why they call them nanners.
picture.php

If you look close, you can see them sporadically throughout the plant here.
picture.php

Here is the top bud before I chopped her down. The top bud had very few nanners, it was mainly the lower 3/4 of the plant.
picture.php

Here she is nailed to the wall to get a good idea of the size. It looks so much larger than it really is. The top bud is a cluster of long airy buds. They are decently covered in crystals but aren't too dense. It will be ok smoke but it wont weigh much.
picture.php

Another closeup of the top bud with a lighter for comparison.
picture.php

All the wimpy lower buds I stabbed through the top of my box I keep the lightly frosted leaves in to dry. All fan leaves and foliage without crystals goes to compost. This stuff will go to brownies, cookies, or butter.
picture.php

Here is what I decided to hang up. The 2 on the left and the large one are the only ones from this plant. All the smaller stuff in the middle is what I have had hanging for sampling :smokeit::smokeit::smokeit:
picture.php

I plan to chop most if not all of them next weekend. I am seeing a few amber trichs on most, and more than a few on a couple of them. I will have a full update when they are chopped and hung. It will be fin trying to find places to hang it all!!

So far, from what Ive smoked, I think I should be in for quite a treat! I would smoke 2-3 hits from my bong and by the 3rd one usually I had no doubt that it was working. The taste was very very good considering it was only dried for 5 days. The lower buds I sampled from the Plant #2 I just cut tasted ok but the high wasnt as apparent. It was a very low, airy bud like the ones i stabbed through the box however.

Any thoughts, questions or comments are always appreciated. Also, feel free to guess on weights and such. Im thinking maybe 16g dry off this hermie.

Peace
