My first grow ever. That1RN's microgrow box

Ok ladies and gentlemen I'm preparing for my first ever grow. I'll be a legal mmj card holder in about 3 months hopefully so I'm starting the planning and building now. What I've got is a grow box very similar to the one pictured. I'll get pictures of it later. Mine measures 19" H x 23 " W x 20.5" D on the inside. I'm gonna knock the inside shelf off soon so it's just an open box. I have a very green thumb with everything I've ever grown (garden plants, herbs, blueberries, hops, tobacco, etc) but I have never even seen a live cannabis plant in person much less grown one. I plan on using 8-10 e27 screw in led bulbs. They'd be a mix of 2700k 4000k and 6500k on a wooden frame. If I use the 60 watt equivalent bulbs that would be between 20 and 25 watts a square foot. Or I can put q few 15 watters in there to get it closer to 30+. I plan on either making a small batch of super soil or just simply buying some fox farm ocean forest soil. For the container for the soil I planned on buying a 18x12x6 plastic tote and drilling some holes around the bottom for drainage. With only 19 inches of total height not counting the bucket and the bulbs I'm really gonna have to train the canopy short and wide which is very intimidating since I am a total noob. I plan on making some small holes around the bottom of the box for air intake and an exhaust air scrubber on top. I have a mix of auto and photo period seeds and really don't care which I use first. I also have plan on building a computer fan carbon filter air scrubber and have a tiny fan for air circulation. ANY TIPS ARE WELCOME! The build will start soon but will be a slow process over the next few months.

Thanks Blynx one of your threads actually inspired me long ago and I'm finally getting around to building mine. I got the ole claw hammer out as I couldn't find my mallet and beat the snot out of that middle shelf. It was a little more work than I thought it would be but it's done nonetheless. I now have every piece either ordered or on hand. Heres the updated box pics.

Had a couple cheap sunshades sitting around and what do you know they fit perfectly. Just bought a little double sided tape and now I have a reflective inside and a thin layer of insulation. The bulb sockets show up tomorrow and I can start wiring those up.

When you upload pics on your phone edit them so the orientation is saved. Otherwise the orientation gets funky.

Interesting project and nice challenge! Height is really limited, did you think about going vertical, using corn type led lamps for example?

Let there be light... 10 sockets. Currently 80 watts 4-5000k, 6-2700k. Tomorrow drilling holes and trying to make a diy carbon scrubber.

Yeah I was gonna do 4:2:4 but it was hard to get evenly spaced. I know it's still not evenly spaced but it's good enough for now lol. After working over 12 hours and getting off late I went from perfectionist to just get it done.

Looks great!

My lighting always looked a little rough. The nice part about these LEDs is that they have a good spread, so having them perfectly spaced stops meaning anything once you get about 5" away from them.

Yeah that's what I've noticed when I use them to grow tobacco plants until they go outside.

Great job man , i want to see this diaries

Thanks :) But just a heads up it's going to be a very slow progression. 1: I don't have a lot of time off to work on it and 2: I am going to wait to actually start the grow until the medical laws pass in my state which I am hoping will be this summer.

Nice build. Remember when drilling metal to use oil on your bits. It makes it so much easier!

That's awesome! I just planted some tobacco seeds in a grow box last night.
If you ever have any questions or want any extra tobacco seeds just ask. I have a bunch and I'll have about 10 different strains of seeds after this summer.

I've never known that, thanks! what kind?

Progress! So apparently unless this box is in my house instead of my attic which I planned on, its gonna be a seasonal grow only. Temps stayed steady at 85 degrees F with all the lights on. My garage temps are about 70 F at 9pm and that will only go up through summer. My ghetto carbon scrubber which I love lol is underpowered I'm afraid. I think it only moves about 12-15 cfm of air but my growbox is tiny so we'll see. I have the seedling mat on a thermostat set at 70F. I can fit 3 small plastic organizer containers in my box so it looks like I'll have a 3 plant max lol. I still have a fan to mount as well. Since I can't start actually growing cannabis until temps go down I might test it out with some clover or cover crop. Also I love the badass bluetooth weather app I got you can see where i turned the lights on and when i turned them off. Knowledge is power people.
