I hate the US healthcare system

They are pretty helpful and the quality of care is decent. They fill the gap between a regular dr. And the ER. A serious injury or something, go to the ER, that is where urgent care will direct you anyway as they don't have the resources to treat serious things. Let's say you have a high fever and keep puking but it's a week to get in to see your primary care dr., that's when urgent care shines. Stuff that isn't life threatening but that really can't wait. They are significantly cheaper than the ER as they don't have the same sort of overhead.

Right... and no doctors are present. The person in charge is a Nurse Practitioner who has 'helpers'.

The urgent care I went to always had a MD and nurses. They were scheduled the same days every week. Must depend on the place. I remember a guy came in with a laceration and was given top priority.

yup, the ones here do too. they do not treat life-threatening injuries, but they can write scripts for minor aches/pains/antibiotics, stitch you up etc. some doctors around here are starting to advertise house calls again. aint seen that since i was young, back in the Middle Ages when they drove buggies & carried jars of leeches with them...

THEY need to start doing house calls imho. This person is discerning health and wellbeing for us i need them to be as friendly and family member like as possible. I hate going into doctors offices and dealing with some hipster asshat who thinks a moral compass is a neat tool used by navy seals lol. Great idea bring back home visits!

The US health care system is a little like a rabid spotted owl.

The right thing to do is shoot it, but it's a protected species.

When I studied business in college, we didn't have to allocate 20% of our national income to health care costs.

I would love to see some of the Powerpoint and other presentation files, at the big business schools.

How do you plan a manufacturing business - onshore - when you are liable for paying your employees health care costs ?

Obviously, that could be a segue to TRUMP. But actually, I bet Dilbert has done some good cartoons on the insanity of American health care & the American economy.

OK, I have to go dig some humongous holes in the ground in the freezing pouring rain.

Better not stay out there too long, can't afford to pay $20K for a case of pneumonia /sarc

Listen, you yankees health care system is no good is your own fault.

For too long you have let yourselves be brainwashed about the "evils" of socialism, which is basically propaganda put out by the rich to keep you from questioning why they have it all and you have nothing.

Listen, I live in Australia, and I can go to the doctor every day of the week if I want and it's free, and prescriptons cost about $6.00 to fill as medicines are subsidised.

But the rich in your country have brainwashed you to belive that is "socialism", and therefore evil.
You Americans need to shake of the brainwashing that is being imposed upon you by the rich.

This is precisely correct and I'll add a couple of points.

The USA is already highly socialistic but most people refuse to recognize it. We have Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, public schools, college assistance, public roads and highways, military, police, firehouses... and innumerable other publicly funded programs.

Bernie Sanders lost the Democratic nomination because he honestly refers to himself as a Democratic Socialist. That one word, "socialist" in his descriptive cost him the nomination. He's no more a socialistic than any other Democrat, including Clinton... and most Republicans.

I am allright with the german healthcare systhem. You don´t feel that you pay and your company pays for you also. Last year I was often at the doctors. Today I were bankrupt in an other healthcare systhem.
But we got a two class systhem, if youre in a private insurance, you get better healthcare.

Our Republican senators just made our flawed health care system worse for 20 million fellow citizens. Fact the USA does not have the best health care system in the world that benefits all it's citizens. I worked in healthcare for physician groups and hospitals for 20 years, I saw the bullshit firsthand. There are many good people in healthcare who do it for the right reasons, but the profit motive puts the patient, US, at a great disadvantage, and our politicians are really fucking us over to benefit the people who line their pockets via lobbying. Bernie Sanders had the right solution, universal healthcare. Spend less on the military to finance it. A few new jets could take care of the cost. Oh, and don't fuck with my social security either, that may be next.

I don't think manatees are endangered any more if they are they shouldn't be there are tons down here.Yea its a shame to get referrals to this doctor or that provider when its not necessary except to make people in the system money. If you have great insurance though I think the care is great.

Well...I said to hell with signing up for healthcare this year. I'm just gonna take the fine. It'll be pretty steep with my income but fuck it. I have a friend who sells insurance and he said he's hearing through the grapevine there's a good chance they're gonna do away with the fine this year anyway.

Trump is pretty fuckin out there...but I voted for him solely for his promises to do away with obamacare. Hopefully he sees it through. But who knows.

I wholeheartedly believe in healthcare. There just needs to be a damn middle-ground. I'm not against paying 60-80 bucks a month even, but $226 with a $7150 deductible is downright robbery. Or if I am paying $226 a month, I should be able to walk up in there and get help anytime I need it. I've got a bulged disc and an inaugural hernia. I should have just quit paying for obamacare a few years back and put my money towards fixing those injuries (had both injuries for the better portion of a decade, they've slowly gotten worse). That's one of my goals in 2017, work on my injuries. I've got an mri for my back scheduled for late feb. It's all out of pocket but who cares at this point.

Oh and being the OP I had no idea this would turn into such an informational thread. Tons of good info in here. Thanks.

With a proper diagnoses a good physical therapist can set you up with a program to get your disc back in place. I've heard yoga is good for this, the stretching helps get the disc back to where it should be.

They sent me to PT before a pain management specialist though...god knows why...the PT' ended up just guessing and making my symptoms worse and the nurse accused me of not doing them at all...lol what a nightmare that ordeal was.

This is really interesting news though I hope it happens.

Yoga is great for back pain (it's the reason I have been doing it for 15 years...otherwise I wouldn't be able to put my socks on in the morning).....the reason it works is that is strengthens your core which in turn helps better support your spine. Yoga also teaches you correct posture which helps keep the pressure off worn out discs. Yoga also will help develop suppleness in your hamstrings which will help with keeping the nerves functioning well. Yoga will help relive stress which is a back pain trigger for many people. Check out you tube, there's lots of yoga videos there specifically for helping those with back pain but I would suggest this beginner's yoga instruction video by Al Hall check it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbyHCkNEOKo or search Youtube : "yoga for beginners Al Hall" and you will also get there.

Note though yoga won't magically "cure" worn out discs or pinched nerves, but it will help by taking pressure off what is causing the pain by correctly aligning the spine..but you have to do it regularly, don't push yourself too hard too early, focus on complete breathing and the correct alignment or form, less so on how far you can move into the asana...each time you practice, you will be able to go further into the movement.

One of the good things about yoga and lower back pain is that you will feel positive results from the first time you follow along with the above beginners video...in my case it was amazing, I went from being in such pain that I couldn't sleep without waking up in pain to being pain free after a few sessions.

Take control of your own health by going for daily walk, do 3 or 4 sessions of yoga (or weight training, swimming, running, table tennis etc etc) each week, eat fresh fruit and veggies daily and less processed/packaged food, stop eating sugar and get some morning sun is a really good beginning.

I definetly need to work on my flexibility. I actually picked up a yoga book recently. I'm a NASM certified trainer so I have a pretty good understanding of physiology and just from looking at the pictures in the book I can tell it'll help. For my later teen years and early twenties I was strong as fuck and lean. I'm only in my later twenties now but lifting heavy weights for years and training mma took it's toll. I'll get dialed in though. I don't care about being jacked anymore. I just want to be fit, flexible and healthy.

I'll check out those vids. Thank you.
