DeltronZER0’s 2020 Quarantine Chronic

Sup fohm
Back again with another outdoor grow, looking to grow those exotic mids for my own head stash under that beautiful beautiful Northern California sun. I didn’t write up last years grow, but I started too late, and ended up with fussy strains probably better suited for indoor growing; got absolutely wrekt but PM, fusarium and mother fuckin caterpillars. Apollo haze turned out absolutely fire, highly recommended genetics from brothers Grimm. Sis skunk from dominion was also up there with the apollo haze in terms of relative resistance to the above pests. This year I really tried to source genetics that were more old school and/or stable lines that are specifically made as durable outdoor plants.

Genetics (in order of showing sex and thusly getting planted into their final 10g container):
Mental floss X sweet skunk (MFxSS) - chimera genetics
Electric diesel (ED) (puna diesel x Kauai electric) - big island genetics
Black pineapple (BP) (Pakistani chitral kush X lemon y Pina #3) - Mosca negra seeds
Pine Tar Gush (PTG) (pine tar kush X gorilla bubble bx) - Tony Green’s tortured beans
Blockhead X the dom (BHD) - chimera genetics

Soil methodology:
Planted in 10 gallon smart pots once they sexed
Soil is 5:1:1:1 of “soil mix”:biochar:ewc mix:hydrocorn
“Soil mix” is ~1:1 fox farms ocean forest:HP promix amended with Tealab ‘dep mix’
Biochar from tealab
Ewc mix is 1:1 tealab:boogie brew ewc

Season strategy:
Aerated compost teas using roots organic brand terp tea, tealab 5:2 kelp:humic product
Foliar feeding with a focus on high brix, utilizing doc bud’s high brix foliar and snake oil
IPM depending on praying mantis, green lacewings trichogramma wasps and ladybugs. Been dealing with some leafhoppers but think I’ve mostly crushed it with the above IPM options.

So far this season;
Started the soil in early April, started seeds in late April, in way better shape than every other season I’ve done. Transplanted the genetics listed above, in order (starting with mfXss) into their final 10g smart pots on 07jun20, 13jun20, 15jun20, 20jun20 and 04jul20 respectively.

Picture from 03jul20, left to right:
Electric diesel, MFxSS, BP and PTG, BHD to be included in the next family photo

Looks great, starting to fill in! I’m really curious to see how the Electric Diesel turns out, I was researching their genetics a few months ago.

Keep posting updates

Will do! My roommate is growing out one of the diesel punch from B.I.G. This season too. He topped his as I did mine. I think it would probably be wayyy leggier if I hadn’t

Thanks tony! So very stoked I get to try some gear that contains Tom Hill genetics. I’d love to hear a little more about the gorilla bubble used in the pine tar gush?

@sdd420 welcome friend! Stay a while, and listen :)

Sup fam, I’m back. Back with another grow update for you all. Introducing my roommates plants this season, which are from seeds I have/had so I realized it makes sense to document these strains too for my own self. He’s got Sour Dub x Alien Dog Cherry (SDxADC) from Obsoul33t genetics, Black Pineapple (BP2) from Mosca seeds and Diesel Punch (DP) from Big Island Genetics. It’s his first season, and he’s playing with some training techniques; topping both the SDxADC and the DP, and training the BP2 to lay back with LST.

@hhill
2nd pic is of the diesel punch, from above. Pretty stoked on the big island genetics thus far, seem nice and vigorous, but will hold off on my opinion till everything comes down at the end of season

Fed with compost tea on Saturday, which was composed of Roots Organic veg terp tea, TeaLabs 5:2 kelp:humic and fish balls, and then earthworm castings from Boogie Brew and TeaLab.

We are getting a little pest damage of some kind that I’d love help diagnosing; see the 3rd and 4th pic. What do you think is causing it and what would you do to fix it?

Rearranged the garden today, so everyone had a little more airflow and space to be tended from. Dealing with a little potential PM already somehow, but got some “Doctor Zymes” insecticide/fungicide which I’m planning to use tomorrow. Anyone got experience with the stuff? Also, what do people like to use to brew bloom geared compost tea? Tried to order the roots organic bloom terp tea, but it’s super sold out everywhere.

Hey all,

For those of you who browse Chimera’s forum, you may have seen this, but basically I determined that I forgot my dolomite lime this year. This has caused the pH of my soil to be super low (acidic), locking out cal/mag, which in turn, blocks uptake or nitrogen, hence some of my plants looking so lime green on their way to yellow.

Do the following pictures seem like they’re acidic soil, low cal/mag or low nitrogen as a result of the first two?

Also a bonus bud shot of the black pineapple already starting to trich up nicely

I've got a funny guy mustache

Huh?

Some thoughts/takeaway on my 2020 season:
I ended up with an okay yield but ended up losing quite a bit to pests/mold. I hypothesize that this was in large part due to forgetting dolomite lime, which fucked JP my pH and cal/mag for the plant which in turn fucked up nitrogen uptake. This all cascaded thru for some weak, vulnerable plants, which were feasted upon by caterpillars and bud rot, in addition to some botrytis. Lesson learned; don’t forget your fucking dolomite lime when you’re building your soil.

I did wash my buds for the first time this year, which I will now be doing every harvest, after seeing how much ash (west coast wildfires), dirt and crap washed off em. Bud burns/tastes/smells/stones great, so any loss of potency or flavor is undetectable to me, though I don’t have a control sample.

This was my last year in this spot, and I will be moving to a new property soon, which I’ll own, and begin building a greenhouse on, so stay tuned for updates on that coming in probably March or April

Diesel punch by big island genetics and black pineapple by Mosca were the standouts. Diesel punch has a CRAZY bubblegum/fruity nose to it, and is nicely frosty. Black pineapple leans towards the PCK daddy heavily, it would seem, with heavy purpling and frost throughout and a nice berry like character to the flavor
