Nevilles Haze x Malawi Killer and A5 x Malawi Killer

Makes a big difference!

I need to stop being lazy and get myself a proper flood tray so I can run my drip system in the tent. I'm hauling them one by one into the bath tub to do my watering like a barbarian...

Looking forward to seeing you work more of your magic!

Thats another benefit - I can go 2 weeks between restocking the reservoirs. I check ph and adjust on grows like these with lots of different plants but on a grow of one clone, I don't have to - when I have a clone dialled it swings perfectly.

Ive heard of it - some said it gave you nightmares. Someone brought a cut back to London and worked it into a 4 way hybrid with Silver Haze, Oranjebud and... Skunk#1 ;) me and my friends kept a cut from that cross going until about 2 years ago... over 25 years. As another member described something once, the incense in it was "humbling". At one time it was available all over the south east but one by one we all lost her. She was so frail as a plant. We laughed that if you even looked at her funny she dropped leaves. RIP to her, she was loved.

Like what you said about Western Winds since I have an old pack in the stash :)

I know what you mean about Nevilles expectations because I remember the Nevilles I grew in 2003 from GHS regular seeds and EVERY plant, despite wide variation in structure, height, colour, finish time ALL had thick, heavy, LOUD frankincense that made EVERY passerby look for the source wide eyed. I remember seeing older peoples eye light up when the first ribbons of smoke reached their noses, they were like "I haven't smelt that for YEARS" etc

Hi Spaventa,

I asked Sammy about the Hawaiian Haze, and he told me he thinks it is lost because she had a too long flowering time and was not practical for commercial goals. It's a pitty because it was special.

And I don't underrate Nevill's Haze line, by any means. I have only smoked or grown a few cuts from Nevil's Haze line and i never explored in depth the line in seed form at that time like i did with Kali Mist, Jack Flash and other famous Haze hybrids of the dutch Golden Era.

But we are on the same boat Spaventa ;) when selecting from this dutch Haze super poly hybrids: the potency and quality of the effect is a priority, but the loud incense trait is a must to catch up my interest.

Very happy to see your plants already finishing the stretching and starting to form the budsites, best is about to come!

Nevil said he made two Hawaiian Hazes .
One was a low yielder but grade A smoke .

Hi Elmer Bud,

Do you have more info about it ?
I'm especially interested on Hawaiian Haze genetic background.
Thanks!

I'd done a couple of Hawaiian Haze crosses. One was with a Hawaiian from Roger in N.Y. A bit of Indica in that one, huge yields.
The other was with a small seeded piney sweet Hawaiian Sativa. This was a true connoisseurs variety but few wanted to bother with it. J. in Breda really liked it and this guy had taste. Maybe Y.Sam has heard of it.

Hi all,

Good to c u around bigherb, its been a while, hope all is well.
Yes, nevs quote does describe the hawaiian that i was familiar with. It was a delight to smoke but a pain in the ass to grow. Thats why it got lost over time i guess.

Re flower times on the old hybrids: usually i try to take them to 100 days flower for more practical grow reasons. They can go longer but you need to start harvesting the lower branches and let the tops of the plants go for an additional 2 -3 weeks taking them up to 120 days.
But the majority of growers usually chop em after the 12 - 13 week marker. After 11 weeks flower mold can get an issue due to the big bud clusters making air not penetretable in the thicker colitas. So mold can get hold in more humid and colder environments, in or outdoors.
Thats the main reason most growers dont go further then 12 - 13 weeks flower, that and the fact that patience is a virtue for those who are willing to go the extra mile.

Thanks for chime in bigherb, i respect a lot your passion towards the beloved Haze line and your input is greatly appreciated.

You are right, the info that Nevil posted while he was active in the forums was GOLD ... very seldom a breeder with such impact in modern genetics shares openly the genetic background and source of the genetics he has worked with. His posts really helped to solve some misteries about some of his legendary strains although some still remain enclosed. I think we will be able to double check some of the info he shared by doing genetic analysis of some of the parental plants he used (not many are still alive) and from all the amazing quality seeds he distributed in his prolific breeding career. I enjoyed a lot with all his Haze releases and with some of his indica releases too, like original Maple Leaf and original Black Domina which were also amazing. I have no words to describe the respect i have for the high quality genetics that Nevil achieved.

a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma

I remember reading Neville saying that when he left Sensi, He told Ben Dronkers the plants there were reject plants and that he would "clear them away" but Ben obviously suspicious, said no, leave them and Neville and him fell out over it. Sensi didn't let him take anything away so who knows what he had when he got involved with Greenhouse.
He obviously had Haze C, NL#5 and Haze A. If Haze A had died or been lost by then, he had A5 for sure. You only need Haze C and A5 to make Neville's Haze.

I rubbed some stems tonight. Its early but the most fragrant of both the A5 cross and NH cross are on the citrus/green.sour/savoury side - no sweetness anywhere yet. I suspect the Malawi is dominant in my examples ....for now at least. Things will involve and individuals will stand out later I'm sure.
I will add more stoned conjecture as we go:tiphat:
