My 1st attempt....

Ive recently started some seeds . This is my first time growing.
Im pretty excited, but ill try stay calm, lol

I had a mate who grew, which got me really interested in learning how to grow. He moved out the area before I had a chance to learn, and since then, Ive done quite a bit of reading, now im looking forward to trying it..

Ive never done this before so please go easy with my lack of knowledge and experience.

I stuck the seeds in water and left em in there for 2-3 days, in a warm dark place. When i came back to em, they had split open, and pushing their way out of shells. i put them in root riot cubes, which were slightly moist. Kept prop on, and within a couple of days, the heads were up, and roots were starting to appear out the bottom of the cube. I kept temps in the 20deg range. Once the heads were up, i stuck a small light on em, think its a 110w.
Prop lid left on. Over next few days, i opened the air vents slightly more each day.

I potted them up in small lil pots, with some homebase soil and perlite.Not sure what size the pots are, but they are small. They seem to have some roots coming out the bottom of the pots now. They are about 12 days old, and have two small sets of leaves on them. Prop lid is off now, and fan is on em, and they seem to be adapting to it slowly.

Should I transfer them now to a bigger pot, or wait till there is quite a few roots dangling out the bottom of their pots?

I think i read somewhere that its meant to be good to allow the taproot to keep growing downward undisturbed. No idea if its right or wrong or what. Also read its good to get quite a few roots hanging out before repotting. Being a newb, id rather ask for some help.

so should i repot asap, or wait till more roots develop, then pot them up.
My gut is telling me to wait till theres quite a few roots coming out each of the holes at the bottom of the pots.

Not being used to taking care of anything, i totally forgot about them for a couple of days, and they dried out a bit and were yellowishgreen, since then ive watered the soil, and the colours starting to come back greener now. Hoping they will be more colour on em when they are repotted into a bigger home.

Need to go get em some soil and food 2morrow i think...

well, it's sorta right to let the roots develop ... but not until they're OUT of the pot. I would have said repot when roots first become visible.

when you transplant into fresh soil just water. DON'T feed them until there are signs of new growth.

the reason I say this is because PROBABLY the soil you buy will have been 'amended'. that is it will have had nutrients mixed with it to make it fertile enuf to grow in.

if you put a plant into amended soil then give it more fert there is a high chance of a mineral imbalance ocurring. here's an example of what I mean:

if you research soils under their brand name you will find that some even contain brick/mortar dust collected from demolition yards!

anyway ... yr plants look good. maybe a little undefed but that could be the underwatering you mentioned.

the soil i got was for seedlings only, it said on the packet now that i think of it. Im thinking they prolly used whatever food was in their already.
They havent had any nutes etc, only water added to soil.

Ill go to the shops 2morrow and get a bag of soil and some veg food for them.

Looks good! Seedlings are the worst to take care of IMO. What are the seeds?

Thanks mate.Yeah, pannicky lil things they can be, especially for a newb like me.
Have to admit, having never cared for a pet, or anything, its nice to have something to 'care for' and have the responsibility of maintaining it.

lol, tell you what tho, dont think my heart has ever pounded as hard as when i was transplanting into bigger pot! I was sweating, lol. Had to put it down, and compose myself, lol.

I just repotted them into a slightly bigger pot, with a slightly stronger soil. Gave them a touch of rhitzotonic to, to hopefully help accelerate the root growth.
I 'll get a 250w mh for them in next day or two, to help speed em up. The current fluro lights are good, but growth aint that fast, and soil takes a while to dry etc. PLus they seem to have now outgrown their 2x55w light since repot, and look like they could do with/handle more light to keep growing fast.

These seedlings will get 250W MH for a few weeks, then go into 12/12 with a 250W hps.
Hoping to do a couple of grows @ 250w, then after summer, all going well and safe, will try the 400W setting, when the temp starts to get colder. Thats the theory anyway, lol. Hopefully by then, i should have an idea of what the phenos are like.
Ordered a lumatek dimmable 400W ballast this week. Using an aircooled reflector. Nothing special, and not attaced to any ducting.

Seeds were gifted to me, so thought id get them going asap, to help me practice. All seeds came in one bag, mixed up.

I was told the seeds are jungle cheese (dont know breeder),and ssh from mr nice seeds. I was told there was 18 ssh seeds and 10 jcheese. Ive kept 14 of them and the rest a mate is trying to pop and germinate.

Just been reading through the forums about ssh, and heard it can be a delicate plant, so im gonna have to learn quick to keep em happy, lol. Got no idea how they meant to look as they get older, so hopefully people can help me to try identify which are which, once they are older.


So far ive noticed, certain seedlings have this going on em.
I thought it may be bugs, but nothing visually can be seen on or under leaf . tried to get a close up with my lame photoskills.

I did some SSH awhile back. It is a pain in the ass. To long to flower for my style but the smoke was real good.

Hi there,

if u dont mind me asking, what were flowering times like for you? Also were they from seed or clone, soil/hydro/coco?, did u use 12/12 or different flowering time?If seed, what was the shortest and longest flowering times you encountered?

Sorry for all the questions, if u get a chance, any input would be appreciated m8. Im trying to learn as much as possible for the weeks ahead.

Would be nice if I can find at least 1 ssh worth keeping. Ive always loved ssh smoke, so if I can find a tasty one, then she'll be my first motherplant ill keep.

On the mr nice site it says flowering for 8-10 weeks. If i find a pheno that can taste like proper ssh in that time-frame, ill be well happy. I'm thinking up to 12 weeks is max for me, hoping its cuttings may drop another week off flowering times.

Im not much of a cheese smoker, so if i manage to identify the cheese plants, there going straight to flower. Not really wanting to hold cheese or its crosses. Will gladly smoke it tho ;-)

Good job on your first grow. From the first pics you posted they looked over watered. Other than that you are doing everything perfectly.

i think u may be right, live and learn!
guess im too impatient, lol

first few days in soil, i forgot about em. When I remembered about them, I noticed they were slightly yellowing, and pots were dry. I gave em a nice watering. The next day, for some reason, i fed em like 3-4 times. They went more yellow. I then realised i must be flooding those lil plants, so I stopped. I think I was too excited, and trying to hurry them along..lol

so i stopped the waterboarding, and started waiting till pots were light and soil colour was lighter .

Since doing this, the colour has been coming back, and the roots when repotted were nice and white, thick n fuzzy. No more overwatering, fingers crossed!

Note to self: make sure to wait till they feel light.

Alright stickyhands i am using westlands multi porpose compost with added john innes 3 quid for 26ltrs so far seedlings are doing well peace Dank

I think thats what i used m8. Went to homebase, and got the john innes no1. Added quite a bit of perlite aswell. YOu used their no 3? Should i use it in flower, or would i see quite a difference in growth/yield/potency if i used a different grow soil, like pro or bio

haha mine is from homebase too my last grow was bio bizz allmix used from seedling to flower it cost about 13 quid a bag then delivery...but the westlands soil is doing good m8
i will make a thread tomorrow as there only small i done the same as you homebase soil with added perilite job done i hope lol

hey man just read you have junglecheese they will be good man i think there bred by trichome jungle seeds and the cheese you have will be a good smoke for sure

Will be good to see another grow with the same soil in action.
Im gonna stick with the no3 through veg and flower. Next grow ill try a new soil, and compare the results.

you cant really go too wrong M8 as my first grow with bubblegum went wrong because i underfeed them buti still got a good yeild there is a pic in my gallery later dank420uk

that bubblegum looks and sounds like some potent stuff.

A friend bought the seeds and gave me some clones. I don't think they were Mr. Nice though. The flowering time was 12 to 14 weeks. I did aero 12/12.
