mschwede, Thanks for stopping by.

Stealth was a huge factor in all of this. It came in real handy when my room mate died tragically young of a heart attack. After calling 911 I started smoking cigs like a chimney. A responding officer VERY apologetically asked if I could not smoke, he was allergic. I said I was too freaked out to stop but, I'd go into the garage, open the doors and stay there until all questions were answered. I opened the garage, the smoke went out the back, so I set up my chair by the back door and endured as best I could.

It wasn't till the next day I realised I'd left Leo in the house completely unsupervised while I spent 2-3 hours answering questions from officers, detectives and paramedics not six inches from my garden in full swing!

Imagine if it had been a Hydro Hut in the living room...

nice setup, threw one of those in some dirt under my 250 around christmas, just for kicks. so far the leaves are huge compared to the other stuff going, even plants a week older. plant is already longer across than all the others. leaflets are actually pretty wide on the pheno I have, stem is sticky!! went straight from the first single leaflet after the cotyledons to 5 leaflet full leaves and started branching out right away. growing like crazy.

how long you planning on vegging for? heard it could stretch a ton in flower, so put it in 12/12 already this wednesday, after only 10 days veg, 3" high or so. even if it ends up female I dunno if there is gonna be enough space to work with it after reading a little more about it, but I'm impressed so far so I'll see how it goes in the next few weeks... looking forward to seeing how it works out for you too, good luck!

I'd put them in 12/12 now except I have nothing to fall back on. No seeds, clones, nuthin. I'm going to let them veg long enough so that topping them provides suitable clone material.

I was VERY nervous ordering seeds. I don't know if my system is ready for that again.

Thanks for the warnings. I'm in way over my head but, too darn stubborn to quit.

Bad day at Black Rock. :badday:

Power went out at 3 am for 11 hours. Fortunately, just minutes before lights out in the garden. Stare at cieling in the dark till daylight. Go off on 3 differnt shopping sprees but, each time I come back, still no power. Picked up a 4" Elicant fan, flanges, insulated ducting, hole saw, 18 gal buckets and other hardware.

Power comes back at 2 pm. Half the working day shot. Hole saw (made for steel)does squat. The freezer just laughs at it. Cut new intake by drilling billions of small holes in a circular pattern (through 2 layers of steel) and grind out the spaces in between.

Remove old fan and install flanges. More drilling thru 2 layers of steel. Getting holes to line up is a bear. No room inside cab for fan (unless I surrender 10" of vertical space. With a 120 day flowering Sativa? Yeah, right.) So the fan is outside. Crap! I really wanted to avoid that but, my plants are getting cooked.

Fan says NO extension cords allowed. Extension cords is all I've got. Turned on, it sounds like a jet engine. If Helen Keller could hear this, she'd go deaf. So much for stealth. With the first fan gone, the box has lost it's freezer like hum.

Flipping the freezer around to get to various sides at various times, I tweek the door. No longer sits square on its own. No longer seals light fast at bottom corner.

Put my brand new CMH back in and it's blown. Turn the freezer over AGAIN. Rewire hood to old 150 ballast. Under the freezer seemed like a good idea at the time but now ...?

Water temps have dropped to 60. Turn off the screaming banshee to build up heat but the 150 is too small.

I spent $200 and half a day ****ing up my freezer, loosing my stealth, blowing my bulb all to put in a cooling system that's now been shut down while I run aquarium HEATERS in both buckets.

If you love me you'll shoot me now. :bashhead:

damn dude, sounds like a crap day!

can you install some duct mufflers or use the purpose built "duct muffler ducting"? I picked up some of this stuff, and its lined with heaps of insulation... I think on long ducting runs it may actually work! Will let you know how it goes if you are interested.

how old are your girls now?

Terrible day, I would have been freaking out and probably put one, if not 2 fists through something.

Why does the fan say no extension cords? you can use an extension cord with anything, it just has to be proper gauge wire, kind of like an A/C extension cord, a heavy duty one should be fine
I have never had to cut into a fridge/freezer, but thanks for the heads up, I realize that it will be a pain if I ever have to do one

Any permanent damage done to your plants?

Just means the smoke will be that much sweeter! :D

I have the lined, insulated ducting. Teflon or plastic lined. Less drag = less noise so they say. Maybe if I stretched it more to smooth out the insides.

Dude at the shop said something about housing the fan in a cooler. Supposedly a gauranteed silencer. Gotta call him tomorrow, I was too sleep deprived to really grasp what he was saying.

Betty's 10 days old. Wilma's nine. She seems to like being right next to the lamp. Couldn't do that with an exposed 250.

OH MY GAWD! Slather me in gravy and call me dumplin', I gots ROOT PORN! Betty's got legs!

I take everything back, this was a great day. Tomorrow: glass, solid state fan controller, cooler, order new bulb!

How are Charlie's Angels. You do have three, right?

They seem fine. They may be too young to know they were supposed to be stressed.

They both got real perky under the 150. With the lesser heat, I can drop the reflector within 5-6 inches.

Thanks for the sympathies. Now that I have my very own root porn, I'm feeling much better :rasta:

Trapped inside by rain yesterday. Contented myself with cleaning up the work space around the grow. And calming down. Door is tweaked, may need to be rehung but the sealing issue was easy. The magnetic sealing strip on the freezer collected all the shavings from cutting holes. Once cleaned, it seals fine.

Thanks for kind words and laughter.

Ran the fan on a 15 minute interval timer during dark. 15 on 45 off. Checked my water temps this am just as the lights came on. 60 degrees! eek. Used aquarium heaters to get them back up. Removed timer from lamp.

On advice from Simba in the CMH thread I reattached the 250 ballast and tried the CMH again. It works. Water temps hold at 68 degrees all day and into the night. Tried the white skirt on one bucket to compare. Skirt drops temp 1 degree.

I wrapped the buckets in blankets to see if they'll hold temps up during dark period. With blanket and lights on temps still at 68. These temps were with lamp about 6 inches from plants (couldn't do that before the fan)

Wilma's starting to catch up.

T minus 120 and counting. Switched to 12/12 today. I've decided to forego clones and get to business.

Bucket temps were at 64 degrees this morning so the blankets helped a bit. After a day under the lights, temps are holding at 68.

Picked up a router speed control for the fan and made a DIY muffler

Much better. Still need to quiet the fan itself a bit more but, I no longer panic when opening the garage door.

I am indeed and thanks for the warning. Actually, it may have been your diary that first made me aware of what I was getting into.

The seeds I ordered were Silverhaze with a 70 day flower period. They didn't hatch so I planted my "freebies". I doubt I ever would have chosen these seeds, especially for my first official DWC but, it's what I gots.

Tonight starts the first night of 12/12. Let the show begin!

Woweee, nice growing space.

Good luck on this. I cant' believe you drilled hundreds of individual holes int he steel to try to get through it due to the failure of the hole saw, that's insane :D

I've done many similar "not-the-right-way-to-do-it" things in my life, though.

hope it gowes well!

D'oh! My secret's out. The space between layers is just enough to make my jigsaw unusable. If I ever have to do this again, I may invest in a Saws All.

Glad to see your stealth cat hasn't eaten you in your sleep. Speaking of which, I hope you're keeping the beast away from your babies. Most animals don't like to eat weed but it takes them a bite or two to figure that out and, at this stage, one bite is all it takes.
