Democracy loses in Michigan. Legalization won't be on the ballot this November.

Michigan republican legislature passed a law this year, and signed by the republican governor that changed the voter initiative process in that state. Initiatives in Michigan now have only 180 days to gather the required number of signatures to qualify for the ballot from the day they are given approval from the board of elections. Very difficult to say the least.

This is a huge set back in direct citizen democracy, and dangerous one.

Please pass this on. Even in states that are now legal, our freedom and democracy is always under threat. We have to constantly stay on top of these bastards.

Yes, a lot will change depending on who is elected in Nov, what bills will pass. VOTE! Don't give up!

What's really messed up about this is that the campaign putting this on the ballot this November had enough signatures to qualify, but the law passed just this year applied to initiatives in the current election cycle. So somewhere around 200,000 signatures to legalize in Michigan fell out of the 180 day time frame, even though those signatures were collected BEFORE this law was signed by the Governor. Talk about F'd up. Lawsuit was filed, appealed to the Michigan supreme court who decided (five republican and two democrat justices) not to hear the case before the election.

Gotta love the appointed administrators, from those that gave us asset forfeiture.
