What Disease is this? Brown Patches Stem.

I am trying to find out what the disease is that has recently affected two of my plants.

Beginning at a node, brown spot on the stem grows larger until it 'ring-barks' the stem. Branches on stem subsequently die.
If the brown spot does not grow large enough to completely ring-bark the stem it is on, the stem will look sick but then appear to recover. I would say any yield from such a stem will be reduced.

The disease occurred at the onset of wet weather.

What disease might this be?

Search botrytis images on stems, see if that looks familiar.

Different species and colors, wet plant material is susceptible.
