I personally don't remove an of the fan leaves directly, and would not recommend doing so unless your canopy is so dense there is risk for mold.... More leaf mass = more photsynthesis = bigger buds.

The leaves missing in the picture shedded from the plant naturally because I have fed this individual sparingly. The plant will tell you when it is done with a leaf and will fall off immediately when touched.
