What's new

Anyone used Oil Slick Sheet or the like instead of parchment?

Has anybody used any of this stuff as an alternative to parchment paper when pressing rosin? Or are there any other good alternatives?

I seem to be going through a ton of parchment and am wondering if this stuff is worth it.

Would be worth the price to me if it's more reusable and easier to clean.

It is a bitch to get the rosin off of, it does have it's place doing directional flow but parchment is much easier to collect rosin..

So something like this stuff?

I couldn't find the specific video that you're referring to, but did find one of somebody pressing onto the oil slick stuff. Looked pretty easy to do.

The guy I remember seeing was somewhat of a PTFE evangelist, but I guess that the link you posted probably has something somewhat similar or maybe even exactly the same as what the dude I watched was using. Sorry I can't be more specific.

It crinkles and wrinkles under moderate pressure, making collection difficult at best. The rosin has a tendency to pop and fly the fuck everywhere. Or at least, that was my experience.

There are other options for PTFE, perhaps one is more functional.

Yikes, that doesn't sound good.

This is the first I'm hearing about PTFE.
Are there any of the other options you have first hand experience with or would recommend trying?

Thanks

I tried Slick Sheet for pressing, didn't like it at all, like Mikell says it gets all wrinkly.
It's excellent for storage, my favourite, but i much prefer parchment for pressing. I've tried loads of different types of parchment without noticing much difference so these days i get whatever's cheaper or nearer!
