I'm sorry you still have the infection, but I really am glad it isn't a mold infection. Did they run the sputum test?
I see what they're saying about the suppressed immune system. My big thing with docs who say that is a person's immune system is affected by so many factors, they really don't know what your immune system was doing during a potential infection. Like were you sick when you smoked mold? If you were sick, your immune system was lowered due to fighting off another infection. When you said you were on Zpacks and it didn't help, it made my eyebrows raise. Zpacks are some strong shit, and for it not to work, you have to have some kind of bitchin infection. Mold or no mold.
Immune system stuff is kind of my thing. I have an auto-immune disease that can only be treated by artificially supressing the immune system. So I got to learn all the fun shit immune systems take care of. Mold is one of my biggest concerns. TB can just about kill me if not handled RIGHT away. It just amazed me how many docs had no clue what they were talking about with me until I saw a specialist and got help after 10+ years of unimaginable pain.
But yeah, for now you have some reassurance. Finish off those antibiotics and see your primary when you're scheduled. I would tell him everything too, and if you did have a cold or some kind of sickness when you smoked, tell your doc that too. And if they didn't take a sputum culture where you went yesterday, they may want to do that anyway just to be 100% sure.
Keep me updated if you don't mind. I'd like to know how things go for you. But for now, I'm glad to hear that the infection isn't as severe as a mold/fungal infection.
