The Search for Trip Weed

Yes I forgot all about the Purple Haze those were the days, your not lying about every body wanting that "loud" and like you said, I would gladly pay whatever just to have a stash of that weed, me and my friends used to sell nickels of some lime green buds with some seed, back then we and others would call it The Firegreen, Ari, hawaiin, we would chip in and take a cab down there and get enough that we hoped would last a few days but it was so good we would smoke it all within two days, I don't think the twenty year old crowd has even tried it, they only had the "Piff" which I think turned them off to all Hazes

BigHerb - Thank you for the clarification. I tried to edit and find a way to strike through the "Piff", but could not. Your correction stands on it's own. I hope it is Church related for sure! I was smelling it again tonight, and I detect lemongrass, paraffin, and maybe burnt wood. I can't quite put my finger on it. However, I have been told that due to the reddish color in the stem, it is a PNG leaning pheno. The Haitian side is supposed green.

Thanks for your contribution,

ThaiBliss

Apologies if i went off topic ,Haze makes me do that

The aromas are intriguing ,im not familiar with the term pararffin but seems it kerosene ,also lemon grass is somthin im not familiar with much

But it sounds similar to Nevilles haze in some ways .Lately ive been burning a somalian frankincense an it reminds me of Nevs .But i notice a lemonish pine scent .Which ive not very familiar with in incense .But it brings me back to NH n got me itchin abit

With Genetics like that I'd imagine there is great potential for ride to the moon

Keep us posted on the progress

Best wishes

Yes sorry ThaiBliss about the reminiscing didn't mean to hi-jack your thread, good luck on your search

Bxgrower81 and BigHerb - You are not high-jacking at all. If you are talking about weed with a great high that you love, you are exactly right on topic. I'm keenly interested in your discussion.

Since the Dominican Republic and Haiti are two countries on the same island near Jamaica, I'm glad to hear nearly confirmation of what I thought I remember reading.

Paraffin is a wax made of oil, instead of beeswax. It's not quite kerosene smelling, but kind of oily.

Thanks for the posts.

Have you run across Real Seeds' Mekong in your research ThaiBliss? Seems like a good prospect for some trip ganj. After I move out west i'll be looking to do outdoor pheno hunts for that true sativa magic with such strains.

"Region: Southeast Asia
Strain: Mekong

Genetics: Pure Southeast Asian Ganja Plant
Latitude: 17°N
Regional Maturation: late December to early February
Height: 3m - 5m
Aroma: intense spicy musk; fruity ganja
Characteristics: aromatic, long flowering; very heady, euphoric high
Grow Type: Outdoors or greenhouse

This is a very aromatic ganja strain cultivated in the classic 'Thai' growing regions of Northeast Thailand and central Lao PDR, along the Middle Mekong.

Vigorous and high yielding plants producing buds with a fruity, musky aroma. Buds typically have nice resin coverage and are denser than might be expected for a tropical 'sativa' when cultivated outdoors.

The high is euphoric and stimulating, with larger amounts producing a more intense 'psychedelic' effect.

Buds form in large clusters and calyxes can show darker purples and browns in late flowering.

These are very vigorous, irregularly branched plants that can grow to 4 metres or more outdoors. Potentially a very high yielding plant, with the better phenos showing great potency.

Increasingly the collectors are inclined to think the 'Red Thai' and 'Mango Thai' are phenotypes that can be found in this landrace genepool, rather than actual 'strains'. Mango phenos have a more fruity aroma and often lighter green leaves, whereas the 'red' phenos have pronounced red pistils and often more dark colourations, with muskier aromas.

Indoors requires experience, allow 14 - 18 weeks for flowering."

If I had my way i'd smoke nothing but ambered out exotic sativa luxury. I've smoked plenty of nl5xhaze, ssh, durban, kentucky fried, and so forth, all really good smoke mind you, but to this day nothing touches the real deal sativa imports of old.

So good luck on your quest! I'll be starting my own soon enough... :tiphat:

Subbed... and bound to be one of my favorite threads.

I was lucky enough to start smoking just before everything went to shit mexi brick. One of my favorites had electric colors - lime green and orange. Didn't come with a name so we just called it trip weed. Almost racy, way up head high, rollercoaster (esp. sitting back listening to tunes with eyes closed. Cosmic.), pie-eyed and smiling wide with a duration of a few hours.

Thanks for documenting TB.

Sounds really good ThaiBliss, I've always heard good things about PNG bud and always wished seeds were available somewhere to try some. Crossed with a Hatian should be something special.
BigHerb and Bx, I love hearing stories about the NYC haze buds and Church and all those other names, because they are like conformation to me that the old strains I smoked in the 60's-70's were not my imagination or my inexperience at the time I smoked them, they are parallels to your experiences in a different time period.
If we could narrow down the characteristics of what we've seen, felt, smelt and tasted we could find some common types and regions of origin to search through.
This is a great thread with lots of good info for anyone searching for that one that got away.

I actually like Indicas for what you are describing, and even just for a change of pace. Pure Indicas are getting hard to find also. Indica x Sativas with an typical Indica dominant high are a dime a dozen around these parts. So that is why I'm interested in this search.
There are lots of landrace indicas around.

World Of Seeds: Mazar Kush, Ketama, Pakistan Valley
Dr Greenthumb (insanely high prices): Iranian Autoflower, Iranian Landrace
Tom Hill: X-18
Sensiseeds, Nirvana: Afghani #1, Aurora Indica (87.5% Afghani #1)
Aceseeds: Pakistan Chitral Kush
High Quality Seeds - Afghani Hindu Kush

HQS is an older company that I actually started my first seeds from. :)

The reason they're everywhere, is because they are very easy to grow.

Greetings,

Brelva - I have not tried Mekong, but have heard of it, and it sounds wonderful.

BigHerb - I would like to hear a description about the Church Haze high as best as you can remember it. I've heard so much about the smell, speculation about sources, etc., but I don't remember anybody waxing more than a few phrases about the high. Please do go on about it.

There are so many good suggestions so far about where to look for the type of high I'm after. I'm hoping that everyone feels free to write about personal experiences and good stories about things that happened while under the effects. Pictures posted of the plants are a big plus.

I am currently well stocked with what I think are some good prospects, at least for the next couple of years. I've never felt so good about my seed collection. I just need to turn them into confirmed cuttings. While doing this, if you all are documenting first hand experience with trip weed, it will help me/us in the future, with this thread as a reference, and hopefully start others on the path to help make these types of weed more widespread.

The handful of great cuttings I have held in the past were always stumbled upon with a little help from friends. The only world class one, so far, from a seed company was the very particular Neville's Haze individual. Keep in mind how picky I am. I don't intend to offend anyone. I have grown plenty of very good weed, but so few were as good as the top shelf grade from my youth.

I have only purchased seeds a handful of times, and mostly only recently. I've always wanted to keep a very low profile. So, I don't have a lot of experience with what is available. Most of my experience is what I've come across floating around California and Oregon, and only ones that people have been willing to share.

If I find anything exceptionally great, I plan on sharing freely, partly as a way to try and redeem my own hoarding out of existence some strains that I had. I have been feeling truly guilty and regretful for those great strains once in my care that I lost. I feel I have let down the younger generation by not passing on the work of our ancestors in as good or better shape than it was when I started smoking.

Happy Hunting,

ThaiBliss

Thaibliss, I think you are making a very important work in diversity preservation, that is more important for myself than the cash croppers and the pollen chunkers that only select clones and hype them to hell.
The world need more people who work for more than money and to put their names in hype. In May I'm going to Perú,I will try to collect as many seeds of what I smoke hoping I could get some nice sativa genetics from los Andes...

Greetings and nice thread for all of us who love sativas and tripy high's :respect:

lol ,Its true there are many praises an post of its the best they ever smoked but not much detail on effects .

I think effects are subjective to the individual. But taste/ aromas are based more on an educated palate an recognizing common everday items .Which is one reason why many post r similiar when recognizing the taste/aromas .

Ive said before above the clouds but hit by a mack truck .To try an be descriptive as best ill try to be as indepth as possible .The saying walking on the moon comes to mind but the power is like nothing else .

Physeldelic in terms of perception an sensory .I always felt highly aware of sounds an actions around me that faded into a daze at the same time .Very self conscious ,somthin like schrooms but nothin visual no hallucinating type stuff .

Also a definte Euphoria ,a feeling ive only gotten in a few herb that we call feel good .Just happy for no reason everything was better with Haze .BUt it was powerful Herb in more ways than one an in my book nothin matches it

I cant recall paranoia or increased heart rate .It was very long lasting effects 4 hours somtimes .BUt the more you smoke the higher you got for sure .Tolerance build up was never a factor ,which i find rare today .

Tell tale sign was blood shot red eye with that grin than of course the smell of a bud , the smell in a room an that taste is unforgettable Frankincense

Might sound like exaggeration or maybe abit of nostalgia .But its best i recall about Frankies aka the best NYC Haze

Hey Thai, another very interesting discussion I see!
Im currently on the hunt for an early outdoor sativa with some "psycedelic" effects, with an up high with zero burnout.
Ive mainly been recomended 2 strains: Ciskei and Bangi haze, the Ciskei supposedly has a more peaceful sati high whereas the bangi is electric...But it really boils down to which can finish up here.

As you know Im a fan of African weed, although most of them are not in your face rollercoaster rides, but a peaceful, balanced effect with an enjoyable trippy alert aspect.
To me it equates to a "spiritual effect" perhaps for lack of a better term.

But it hits a spot that "modern" hybrids do not is what Im saying, and the flavours (after a cure) are also some of my favourite, earthy, licourice, pepper, floral etc.

Ive also had many great times with Thai weed, which I find has many qualities of African but can be longer lasting, more thrilling, yet also more lethargic especialy towards the end of the stone.

But Im speaking generally here as you know there are loads of different Thai and African grasses with differing terpenes and effects.

I would love to sample some Mexi, Lumbo and Guatemala grass like the stuff Ace and CBG work with, I actually have 3 different Guatemala lines (1 is Aces) but dont think any of them will finish up here.
There are Peruvian strains that autoflower which I really need to look into.

Will be in Amsterdam soon and of course be hunting the import sati's, will get some pics and smoke reports if I have time.

BigHerb - Thanks for that great description the Church. That definitely captures the spirit of what I would like. Sounds like top notch weed, and I hope we find it, or a reasonable approximation of it. If we do find it, we must share, because it is way too easy to have it slip away to just another fond memory.

Hi Rinse - I'm often bumping into the same bunch of folks because we like the same kind of weed. I have tried Bangi Haze, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it. I have only grown one individual, and at first I did not think it was very potent. But it is supposed to be early, it is a great example of happy weed, and the effects lasted a long time. It's the kind of weed that makes you think of taking a girl on a picnic in a park, on a lake, or in the woods. You might hope to find an old lady with a flat tire that you could help. "One World, One Love" kind of high. Irie! It was also a bit trippy as I noticed my auditory senses were heightened. It threw off my balance a bit. I actually bumped my shoulder walking through a doorway. Perhaps in a higher dose, it might induce an out of body or floating type of experience. I did not find it racy, but definitely energetic. It was plenty ripe when I harvested, and I still get a lot done when I smoke it.

Bangi Haze!

Poor Dubi at ACE seeds. I complained when I saw those bushy fat leaved plants. Looks like Indica, maybe technically is as it has Nepalese in it, but the high does not lie!

I'm saving those seeds to cross with a world class trip weed variety. Bangi Haze would be the perfect weed to bring down the ripening time of a longer flowering strain. Using a couch-lock strain for shortening the ripening date is THE breeding mistake of the generation, in my opinion. It is hard to get rid of couch-lock when it gets a strain. You think you do clean it up, but when you compare to a great one, or breed further generations, you realize it is an illusion.

I'm probably going to take some hits for saying that.

Thanks again for the posts,

Once,i had some hallucinations (OEV)while smoking thai weed...never thought it could be possible...

Smoke report of the stuff, and explanation of the trip, post 96
The first time I smoked the Tanzanian Magic I grew, it was a complete out of body experience. Extremely electric body high, but the cerebral high literally plucked your soul out of your body and sent it on a trip around hyperspace.

And no luck trying to open your eyes in the first two hours. Just a little had me high for about 4 hours before it wore off. Not exactly pleasant, but unique and extraordinary.

I don't know what I did, but it was harder to replicate in future generations. Or maybe I'm underestimating my present weed.

African Seeds Company was an awesome company, with a fantastic selection of weed, including Ethiopian Highland (from the Rasta community at Shashemene).

Different Kinds of Psychedelic Highs From Weed

Different Kinds of Psychedelic Highs From Weed

Just as there are three main effects of weed - narcotic, euphoric and psychedelic - there are also different kinds of psychedelic highs. I'm talking about the essential nature of high - they all provide lots of energy.

Southeast Asian

Thai weed often has this scatterbrained high, which reminds me of the movie Ong Bak 2. Some gnarly faced guy appears out of nowhere doing weird shit, and suddenly another face appear out of nowhere, and more weirdness ensues. It breaks the linear train of thought which is also what Zen (Buddhism) tries to achieve. It makes me think of pagodas, incense. Don't try to think linearly during this weed, or move in a coordinated fashion during or after.

South American

8 Miles High. You feel like you're looking at the world from far up in the atmosphere, watching tiny cars move about in silence. Nirvana's B-52 had this affect.

Tropical African

Spiritual. You get transported to different places, great for meditation, or breakthroughs in Qigong or yoga. Tanzanian Magic (30 km northeast of Lake Malawi), and it 's more famous western shore of Lake Malawi cousin, Malawi Gold.

Tripping balls

Tripping balls

Are you kidding? I'm in my 50s and I love to trip till my balls hurt!

ThaiBliss, I applaud your dedication to this pursuit! Not many folks our age want to be "tripping balls", lol! :biglaugh:

The 1st time I ever got high was on some brick mexican. About the 3rd time I had tried getting high, but this day my BF and I both got crazy, cartoonland high. Been chasing it ever since!

Not really. After we smoked up the rest of the Z the next day trying to relive "the Trip", (ending up w/ headaches) I eventually realized my "receptors" were now tainted.

Sure, I do love an exhilarating sativa high, and I have experienced fleeting psychedelic traces, what I refer to as 'syntax slip', many times while under their power. It's always a gift to me, but now I don't try and chase it, just let it be.
I haven't smoked Zamal in any form, but I'm sure you're on the right trail. I'll be following along, my fellow canna-naut, soar on!

Can't wait:)

Cheers to all trippers, fantastic thread;)

i tell my crew that psychoactive is like getting lost deep in fantastic thoughts or momentarily ( during the high effects) achieving a different vantage point from which reality appears different and often times enhanced.

trippy is like when you see olive oyl slumped over sobbing hysterically in her chair while popeye and daphne are going down the hallway towards the back bedroom hand in hand. :)
