ive done the baking soda vinegar treatments, the sting from the vinegar feels nice and it numbs it for a few hours..but it always comes back...

also got some steroid cream called betamethasone, been putting that on twice a day and nothing...

I feel your pain, I m pretty sensitive to the urushiol in the posion ivy, oak and sumac. The only thing that will help you besides steroids is something called zanfel- you can by it at drugstores but its extremely expensive for a small amount( to me- I'm broke). It binds to the urushiol oil and you can rinse it away. I used gojo, the grease remover, a few weeks ago and it cleared it up pretty quick and it will help you sleep- no more torturous burning! Don't waste your time with anything else unless its a minor rash.

they sell a treatment for it at your local walmart. it is a two part treatment the first has some abrasive shit in it that knocks the tops off all the lil bumps. it is best to do this and then take a shower. after you dry off the second part is a sealer that you spray over the infected areas that will dry it out over night. the only catch is the shit costs about 40 bucks. i have had to use it in the past and it always worked for me

the wallmart shit im telling you about will make the itching go away almost instant. the second step in the box is a spray that unlike the vinegar dries like fingernail polish and chokes the rash out. i wish i could remember the name i know there were 2 or 3 brands and the lesser ones are about 15 to 20 they dont work worth a shit. spring for the 40 dollar one and you will be glad you did

ahh the oak....

after literally being covered head to toe for over a year straight with severe outbreaks im pretty familiar with it and what you can do about it.

First, if you already have it, youre fucked...wash all your clothes a sheets/bedding in a mild bleach solution. if you start to get weeping sores(what i like to call the mountain range), gold bond and qauze are your best bet for keeping the sap from oozing all over and looking really bad in public. if you already got a predisol cycle that will help it go away faster but wont stop the itching, however once it starts to heal you can scratch the ever living shit out of it without worrying about it spreading, untill then scratch at your own risk.

If you might get it again, dish soap is your best friend against ever getting a rash in the first place. when im working on the hill i wash my hand every hour or two(dont ever touch your self when you go take a piss) and shower with dawn 'power clean' soap the minute i get done for the day and for the most part I wont have any issues unless i get direct contact like you have. Im extremely allergic to it and always get atleast a little bit every year, i have a mild case healing right now but i used to walk around looking like a third degree burn victim all bandaged up.

anyway, good luck, youre gonna need it!

Yeah steroids aren't really good for you but I've had to take them before when I've had it that bad and they will help the most the quickest.

There are lotions formulated to remove the urushiol which is causing the reaction, and is still probably on your skin. Urushiol itself doesn't do anything to you, but unfortunately your body is freaking out needlessly and self destructing any tissue that has the stuff on it. I just found ZANFEL on the web. I'm familiar with another brand but can't remember it. Pharmacies and outdoor stores will carry the stuff. Just ask. Unless you washed with industrial laundry detergent and alcohol, the urushiol is still on your skin. Even at this late date it might be worth washing with this stuff.

If it gets too bad, go to a doctor and get a cortisone shot. It makes a big difference. They can also prescribe an oral antihistamine.

On your arm you can apply the cortisone lotion heavily, cover with gauze or paper towel, and lightly wrap your arm with an Ace bandage. This allows you to set the arm on surfaces or wear a jacket.

When you get into the stuff it's easy to focus on where the plant brushed against you, but what's murder is what you can do to yourself. If it gets on your hands you can spread it around. So if you might have been exposed; don't rub your eye or nose. Piss without touching your dick. The poison oak oil (which contains urushiol) gets on your clothes and on your tools. It lasts forever.

If you've walked through it, it's on your pants. When you get home, take off the pants before you take off your socks. This way your poison oaky pant cuffs won't rub on your ankles.

Did you first come home and flop onto your easy chair? If so the left arm rest is covered in urushiol. Is it on your truck seat? Door arm rest? Is your dog covered with it?

If it's on you, rubbing alcohol is a good first rinse. You're washing an oil off. Strong detergent for your hands. Dish soap is a good wash for whatever. If you think it is on your hands but your zipper never was undone during the whole exposure episode, then don't wash your genitals. You'll just be spreading urushiol onto sensitive skin, no matter how well you thought you washed your hands. It's under your fingernails. Scrub there with detergent.

Be real careful wiping your ass.

Once you've done the deed and your skin is a mess it's a matter of time. If you scratch it causes the skin to release more histamines which enhance the itching and inflammation. The more you f#ck with it the worse it gets.

It's an allergic reaction. Supposedly you need to have some initial exposure to develop an allergy. People have gone for years with no concern for the stuff until one day wammo.

Good luck. :comfort:

If you're past the point of oozing and spreading it you can try alternating cold water hot water in the sink. Feels good.
Ah the memories...

try Caladryl Clear, they sell it at drug stores, its a poison oak ointment that you rub on a couple times a day. dries it out and makes it die.

I've had the oak plenty of times. no scars. just dont itch that shit, player.

I know its too late for you, but for others here it is.

Dish soap in a COLD shower (hot will spread it) within 1/2 hour of exposure if possible.
Rubbing alcohol never hurts.

Take a benedryl or two asap (before the shower) to stop so many of your histamines from going to work.

The sock AFTER pants rule was mentioned and very important. If I think I've been anywhere near poison oak or Ivy, I will under no circumstances whip it out for a piss. Same with touching your face including eyes, mouth, etc.
A mosquuito net hat is nice for this, so you don't have to swat them off your face while you're working.

The less you itch the better. So much easier said than done.
