house and garden says not to use airstones because it causes sediment with their nutes. i do use a small pump to mix the nutes but just when im mixing in nutes and RO water. thats about it.

they look like a knock off of the original. i would stick with the 12 pack that comes with res fitting and stuff

so after this grow is done im gonna do a test run of the K.I.S.S. style nutrient line otherwise known a maxibloom and nothing else. i want to keep it as simple and cheap as possible without sacrificing yield or quality. i think i will be adding a few additives that i have left over but thats about it. my clone wars tent will go straight maxi in ebb and flow, 1 week veg time with as many 3x3 rockwool cubes as i can fit on my 2x4 flood table under 3-400w with co2 injection. should be pretty awesome to watch a ton of single cola plants develop. this will be my in between crop while the big girls are vegging to size before 12/12

Are blumats simiar to THESE at Home Depot?

Those are a clone of the Blumat Jr's, which water through the ceramic cone and work on suction from a reservoir below the level of the sensor. The regular Blumats are pressure fed and water through a hose that is controlled by a pinch valve on the top of the sensor. The Jr's don't work well for what we do.

GOOROO

blumats ftw........

IMG_0007.jpg

lady came in at 11 oz...could have most def been more...I overfed and had some issues with a learning curve of blumats. Someone told me to run the pots lighter before I researched myself so I was having issues with pots drying out then flooding them...once I learned to keep them at damn near saturation point....whew....butterrrrrr.

First of all thank you DH for posting this very inspiring thread. I think there is hope for my growing career after all. Hand watering is where I always go wrong with my grows.

I do have a couple questions tho..

The regular Blumats are pressure fed and water through a hose that is controlled by a pinch valve on the top of the sensor. The Jr's don't work well for what we do.

I was thinking of using the blumats on my next grow which would be a small 400w sog w/ 1/2g pots... so would you guys recommend using the maxis for those? They aren't too big?

Also to dial it in you would just raise the cone to give it less water or lower it to get more water at a time correct?

And last question which I think was already answered.... does the 10 pack come with everything needed like extra tubing and a res hook-up??

sorry for the noob questions guys....

You want the standard Tropf Blumats, not the Maxi's and not the Jr's. They will work fine up to at least 3 gallons, and probably 5. I flower plants in either 3 gallon smart pots or 3 gallon air pots, and have some bonsai mom's in 1 liter air pots, and the standard blumats work fine across that size spectrum. To adjust the dampness level, there is a knob on the top of the sensor that determines the setting - you just turn it to increase or decrease the moisture. Yes, the patio kit has everything except valves in it. You might want to order a couple of valves and a handfull of T's and elbows for the 8mm line just for grins. If you want to run a looped feed out of the reservoir, you will need to order an extra bulkhead fitting (rain barrel connector, thru-hull connector, or whatever - it's all the same fitting).

Hey Rives, can you describe (or link to a description of) the looped feed? I have 6 plants in 3 gal. pots in a circle around a bare 1K. Also, what size drill bit for the thru-hull fitting? I have the patio set coming with extra drip line and several extra T's and elbows. Also got 2 of the 8mm grommets, which I hope can be used like the thru hull connector from a rez. Thanks. I'm damned tired of hand watering a bunch of girls so I'm gonna give these dudes a try, finally.

you wont regret it. once you dial them in they are sooooo easy. just set it and forget it! lol

the looped feed is just that. a giant loop or circle of the 8mm black hosing in stead of just a straight line with pieces feeding off the line and then an end cap at the very end. either way is fine. whatever you have the time and ability to set up will work. you could either make the big loop to go around your pots or simply tape the 8mm line in the shape of a "J" so it makes the curve and follows the pots round pattern.

i dont think i will ever switch back except for in my SOG small tent. there are just way too many plants to buy drippers for so they will get ebb and flow in rockwool.

my stretch is getting rediculous with the white widow X big bud plants lol. they are easily at 5' tall right now. i hope they stop soon or im in trouble lol

Missed this, Stagehand. DH pretty well explained it, but left out one critical part - both ends of the looped feed go back to the reservoir so that it is fed from both ends. People have done this with either (2) thru-hull fittings (preferred), or a single thru-hull and a "T". Set a "T" about midway through the loop and put a valve on the center leg of the "T" with a chunk of hose on it - this is where you will purge off any air bubbles. A 31/64" drill bit is just about perfect for the fitting, but I'm sure that a 1/2" would work fine, too. I think that you'll love 'em!

DH, I've got some Tsi Fly seeds waiting patiently in the refrigerator. Can't wait!

Heady Blunts hooked it up here.

Take a look, it will make things about 1000 times clear:)

I myself will be planning a looped system. just seems safer, albeit using a bit more line.

bout to do some work! got all my clones transplanted into rockwool and starting a SOG ebb and flow KISS grow using only maxibloom and drip clean. nothing else. if i need calmag i will add it but i dont think it will be needed.

my big tent will continue to be my blumat cave of wonders and my in between crop will be the little guys with no veg. gonna see how many i can squeeze in my 2x4 flood table lol

the strains are FMS WWxBB, FMS AK47 VERY cheesey indica pheno, S@nnies herijuana and S@nnies jackberry kush freebies.

ive got barneys farms critical kush(critical mass x OG kush) and moscas tsi fly(c4 x c99) coming along with some sweet tooth freebies from mosca that i am VERY excited for. i will start a new thread for the SOG pretty soon. need to transplant a lot more clones that i just noticed are all rooted as well as pick out mothers from the AK heri and jackberry kush. i may not keep the wwxbb around im not decided yet. i think the ak is superior to it and S@nnies gear is gonna make it look like childs smoke lol
