a partner to my VbTx's thread...
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=268370

around 6 years ago i made several
crosses using a Nepal Jam male to pollinate:
- chocolate rain, cocoa kush-leaning pheno
- F13
- purple cindy. highgrade seeds
- laughing buddha, fem :(
- johnnyBlaze
- taskenti
- orient express
- X18, pakistani. tom hill
- VbT
- kandy skunk. not tom hill

also, pollinated a NepJam lady with a
johnnyBlaze- the same male that
created my freaky grinspoon-ish JB F2s.
and is a grandfather of personal cross,
gloomSlayer.

wanted something kushy for a change in the garden.
couldn't find the taskenti x NJ, so dropped a few X18 x NJ
in water this morning, to head into soil tomorrow.

looking forward to seeing how NJ's honey'd aromas work
their way into the X18's fruity/cheesy ones. also, the X18
delivers a fairly clean indica stone, and want to see how that
works with the NJ's clear floaty-headedness.

more later, saludos

Hi LowFalutin,

Glad to hear you are finally going to explore the Nepal Jam crosses you made a few years ago, they all sound very interesting! :)

I also worked extensively with Nepal Jam and its crosses last year, i will need at least 1-2 years to fully explore their potential.

I liked a lot the pure X18 from Tom Hill when i used to grow it from clone (thanks to Raco!) more than 10 years ago .... it's a lovely indica with a very kind and positive effect and very enjoyable fruity terpenes, guess it will be a good match for Nepal Jam.

What kind of Nepal Jam pheno did you use for your crosses ?
A fast flowering purple one or a more sativa green pheno ?

I'm working mainly towards the very early, colorful and more resinous Nepal Jam expressions with more refined honey terpenes.

dubi- an old X-18/uzbeki hybrids thread from here at ace...
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=126892&highlight="X-18"

there actually wasn't really any NJ selection process...
i only popped a couple of seeds and worked with the male and female that i got.
i do remember the female NJ had those rounder nepalese-leaning buds, with the early-browning pistils.
but can't remember what the male was like.
good thing is, i found that pack of original NJ regs with 7 seeds left, and may attempt a repro.
X18xNJ seedling today...

i may pop a few of the VbTxNJs to see how the NJ male performs there.

I was just browsing around and saw you have been working or have worked with Johnny Blaze. I worked through many JB beans over the years and the power and overall quality that I found in them was really some of the best anyone could hope for! Made a cross with a beautiful Sweet Blue male and 3 prime JB females and the rest was one big love affair!

At any rate, the NJ X selections should wonderful. Ace is where true lovers of real cannabis can find that genetic profile that has traceable roots, honest breeders, kind and helpful consult and the best damn true Sativa selections available.

Regards and best of luck to you.

cheers azeotrope. i've several crosses made with the jBlaze
male still untested, but here's one that used a taskenti female...

aroma in veg was the rubber car tire side of diesel-
no citrus or sour. unfortunately it turned male.

i like what jBlaze did in my [nevillesHaze x (jBlaze F2 x GrHazeThai)] cross.
it's the woodiest aroma'd weed i've ever come across...

unfortunately, two of the X18 x NJ seedlings were born deformed.
here's one...

this seems to be an issue carried over from the X18, as documented here...
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=326488

a VbT x NJ seedling today...

the VbT was around F3, and the NepJam was around F4 or F5,
as worked by the ace/cbg breeders, when i grew/crossed them in 2012.

the F2s from this cross could be interesting...

X18 x NepJam seedling...
picture.php

EDIT: launched a few seeds of cbg's purple mexican.
if i get males in the X18xNJ cross, i'll pollinate any pck-leaning PMs with 'em.

also may use BM jam-leaning "double jam" males to pollinate the X18xNJ ladies,
sort of a side-ways back-cross to the BMJ in the NJ. the X18 should help hold back
the extended flower time of the lambsbread influence. both the X18 and NJ should
add some kindness to the lambsbread's tendency to get electric-spooky in effect.

~ 9wks from seed, and
~ 3.5wks from summer solstice,
the X18 x NepJams are declared.
1 male (the smallest plant at this point),
and 2 ladies. here's one- the darkest green,
greasiest leaves, toothiest leaf serations,
tallest, most pistiled...

her pistils...

i may put them into light deprivation flowering mode soon...

cool crosses, im curious about taskenti & x18 crosses. look forward to seeing how they treat you!
cheers OU

VietblackThai x NepJam crosses-
first plant to declare at 8.5wks from seed,
and ~ 3.5wks from sum solstice.
she declared early (the only 1 so far),
and seems to want to remain squat,
so i'm guessing nepal-leaning...
picture.php

and next to her VbT x NJ sister, behind,
who seems to be more Vb-leaning...

Hi LowFalutin,

Your X18 x Nepal Jam seems to be more X18 dominant regarding leaf traits and growing structure.

The most developed Vietnam Black/Thai x Nepal Jam seems to have nice blend of growing trais from Vietnam Black and the Nepalese. The other is still too young in the pics to evaluate her properly.

Wish you and your gardens are doing well! :)

brought down the (seeming) most thai-leaning of the
VbT x NepJam crosses today. she smelled mostly like
a creamy tobacco in flower, not unlike some phenos of
skunk i've whiffed. these last couple of weeks a more
citrus aroma's come on.
picture.php

the room where the plant's now hanging smells like
citrus and woody musk. she's the only one of the 4
VbT x NJs that grew in a christmas tree style, w/ long thin stems.
the others were more pole-planty, and a bit more compact buds.
the thai-leaner's stump's now in re-veg.

lost all the X18 x NJs to spider mites. they loved those
broad leaf undersides- like picnic blankets you can eat.

orginally intended for this thread to be about growing out the NepJam crosses mentioned
in the first post here, but now i'm in the process of making a few more new ones...
(in a feminized format)
from these seventeen 2011/12 nepJams i'll be looking for the 1or2 most nepalese-leaning, and same number of jam-leaning ladies...
picture.php

two slow-to-develop, lightest green-leaved, red/purplest-stemmed, possible jam-leaners, center...
picture.php

the one on the left smells like sweet lemons, with a touch of sour green apple bite.

i want the nepal-leaners for crossing to a:
very jam.blue.mtn-leaning double jam...

in re-veg last dec...

...to create a throwback to the original F1 nepal-jam hybrid.
also, just want to have a nepal-leaner keeper to have around
...for a clear-headed, yet warm/relaxed/expansive...
evening/poker sativa.

jam-leaners are for crossing to a:
- cbg durban selection (leeks, lemons, licorice, and carrotwood incense aromas; w/a green haze-like euphoria)
- fast compact euphoric purple OT haze selection*
- same double jam selection mentioned above,
to try to create some very jam.blue.mtn-leaning offspring.

*strongest effect of any OT haze i've grown, almost hybrid strong,
but still the clean/clear of a pure OT. looking forward to seeing what
an F1 cross to a (very) jam-leaning NepJam yields...

first nepjam to declare, after 8 nights of 12/12 (light dep style),
and it's a female (pistil, center, in black background), and also the tallest plant.
picture.php

dank basement/cellar-type of incense aroma.
probably not one of the fast compact (purple) nepal-leaning...
nor longer-flowering jam-leaning...
nepJams i'm selecting for this go-round.
(edit: tho' i may just have to flower out this
very quick one just to see what she does )

over the last 11 nights: 4 males arose and have been binned,
and 3 ladies have declared, and were up-potted from
pint- to quart-sized containers.
also, the three lightest-green and slowest to develop
NJs were up-potted too, just to see if they were aching
for more root space. none of them have declared yet.
picture.php

2 up-potted ladies, left. up-potted slow light-green, center. two TBD, right.

after the ladies declare they avoid the light dep schedule
and just flow with the natural day-length up in the sky-light-lit attic.
let's see if they revert back to vegging...

Hi LowFalutin,

Nice to see you are advancing on your Nepal Jam selection.
To help you a bit on the process:
- the best nepalese phenos usually show purple (not reddish) colors at some point, especially with colder temps, are stinkier (in veg and flowering), have a shorter flowering time (8-9 weeks) and thicker stems, and in flowering they produce more resin.
- the jamaican phenos tends to grow taller, with thinner green stems (although sometimes red), longer flowering time (approx 9.5-10 weeks), more discreet terpenes and lesser resin production.

Guess the Nepal Jams that were forced to declare their sex with flowering photoperiod will still catch up the outdoor season with a proper growth due the long and increasing natural outdoor photoperiod until summer solstice.

Saludos! :)

thanks for the input, dubi. yes, that was the plan: ID the sex with light dep. and bin the males, then reduce the flowering pressure by letting them flow with the longer days 'til solstice (and hopefully gain some size), and then back to fully flowering afterward under shortening days.

the 8 female survivors of The Flower Games, catching rays @ Lumens Reach Farms...
picture.php

the numbers indicate the order in which they revealed their (fem) sex. there's two 4's.
the small light green plant, far left above, still hasn't indicated (EDIT: she indicated 7 June),
(in close-up below)
picture.php

(beginning to develop leaf-tip coloration)

...but i'd like it to gain some size and, like all the rest now,
has been taken out of light dep mode.
its 2 other small, light-green, slow-to-develop, fellow runts just indicated male and've been binned.

the most developed at this point, and 2nd to reveal female sex...

hope everyone has a great summer.

the most developed NepJam from the post above,
@ 1 week later. and she's still ahead.
the 2nd tallest, and second to reveal her female sex.
her pistils are shorter and thicker than most others at this point...

the runt finally revealed her sex a few days ago,
but you still need a magnifier to see her pistils.
she's also a much darker green color now.

the bonsai nepJam selection collection...

moving along, and further revealing their individual character.

the two least developed:
the runt (top row, left).
now putting out a nice sweet and sour green apple aroma...
picture.php

and least developed non-runt (top row, middle).
third to reveal female sex, and now the second tallest...
picture.php

the two most developed:
this one (bottom row, right) has the most developed bud,
which is just beginning to take on a pyramid-dimensioned conical shape.
second to reveal female sex, and second in trich development now...
picture.php

this one (top row, right) continues to be the tallest of all.
in addition to being lighter green than the other quick girl above,
her pistils are a little longer/thinner as well. just after above in bud-size.
the first to reveal sex (post #14, further up),
and with the most trichome development at this point...
