The germ machine is an idea im borrowing off ds toker. Just water bath temp controlled moist sponges for perfect moisture and temp control. Im having ok results so far. Thinking they may need to be bit more moist.
OgX x snowman, 5 of 5 BKGK, 0 of 5 so far, trying a couple in my old school paper towel method to compare. Heres a link to ds tokers thread https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=172749 OgX x snowman |

Still kickin. Had a little slow down with my fnd system. got lazy and the algae growth went wild. I have them fairly healthy now, flipped to flower, n cut back ups. I got a few pics of them while sexing them the other day.
OgX x snowman, They are rolling pretty good. Culled a male or two, and kept one for further evaluation. I cant recall if I sexed them all but was worried after the first 3 were male, that I might get unlucky for females, only germing 5 of them. But im pretty sure I confirmed a female. Going thru them today, I will get stats written down and report back. BkGk, None popped out of 5. I split one with a razor that had been sitting in a sponge for germination for 30 days. The embryo looked viable, so I let it sit in the germination sponge, but I don't think its going to take off. Any tricks for popping a embryo out and getting it to grow? Well I have 5 or so more, and if I get my male tent up, ill pop them next go round. And im going to get my tent up cause I found a very interesting male out of sams ancestrial skunk line. Bdb, I did pop some bdb seeds and have a few vigorous specimens. One is ultra sour bb stinky on stem rub. ill snap pics when I sex them and trellis them today. |

You aren't alone in those beans not acting right. I've gotten reports from several folks the older lines are not sprouting. MANY of my seeds were not in my possession for about 4 years. I have no doubt they were stored properly though. I'll have to try some tricks with stratification, amylase, Ga3 and other such approaches used with various seeds types to see if I can't get some to germ.
Sam and Chimera are probably the best to ask, in all reality, as they likely have the most experience starting VERY old cannabis seed. How much of those details they'd be willing to share, in terms of specific formulations, well... I hate they didn't come up for people though. Sorry. dank.Frank

No worries from me brother. I tend to take it as something I did till I know for sure that its just age/toughness of seed. The sponges were a new twist for me, and I think next time I buy new ones, Ill rinse them extremely well. May have been some sanitizing agent/chemical in the sponges. Although I did have some 100% germ in different sponges. I will try the old paper towel method next time alongside my sponge method. I really wanted to check out the bkgk bx line though. Holding out hope for my next little batch! I recently read something about a couple chemicals found in smoke that in ppb, showed strong help in germination. Idk... I just blew some smoke on the little embryo. ![]() Heres some crummy shots I took a few days ago. I plan on getting some new ones after sexing and trellising hopefully today, maybe tomorrow. These have been topped to balance out height from different seed lines running at the same time, and not getting equal growth of course. lol I need to adjust my pheno hunting plans to fit my room design better. I run just 2 315's right now for the small pheno room. and I try and run new seed from about 18" tall so I can have enough height to finish without topping in most cases. Also use a trellis for support or for managing stretchy phenos. I like to run multiple strains in small lots of 5 to 15 usually. but im thinking next round im gonna try and stay true to only 2 or 4 seed pools of 10 to 20 each, rather than 8. OgX x SM #4 #5 |

That male, having the really long leaves like that, is how GROM grew. Musty sort of white grape juice or spicy grape jelly, more candy'ish smells on a stem rub?

grape seltzer is the main aroma, but there is definitely a sweet aspect to it.
