What sort of strains gets Bricked/maybe cobbed in Jamaica in the last few years?

So three or four years ago, I was heading out for a road trip with a crew of guy that were in my opinion mean well mooches, I don't think they intended to get that way, but regardless.

Knowing my plight, I looked for something other than my own, what I consider atleast top shelf for the area I was in, I was on limited space and smoked a lot so didn't have much of that to go around.

Hook up with a bro for something cheap and decent that flys pretty much under the radar for what the average person wanted.

Dude came back with this Jamaican Brick that was imported Labeled B. mountain that he liked but couldn't get rid of. being a bit of a coffee fiend and knowing good coffee is grown in the Blue mountain region i decided to give it a try grabs a half z of this puck brick (think big ass salami sliced into thick disks){also assuming B. mountain actually meant BLue mountain near Kingston}

stuff was straight up Dank, dark and musky maybe a little skunky (like actual skunk the animal, not skunk#1). Smelled like it was gonna be harsh as hell, ended up being pretty smooth with a slight twinge of a tickle. So i ended up grabbing a buttload and took that on the trip. needless to say the bros didn't get around sampling til the end they turned their nose up until the second to last day.

like most pressed bud it got pretty dark but there were parts that looked a little less press and i could actually see some bud structure.
It appears to be either sativa leaning hybrids or a sativa the natural density didn't seem to be too great but there seemed to be some natural darkening to the sugar shake left like a columbian black sorta look that sorta affected the majority of the flower as well, there were not many areas that had a very strong green tinge.

This stuff was LOADED with seed, ended up with about 2 dozen killer looking seeds that pass the squeeze test.

Is anyone familiar with what is normally run in that area? I'm not expecting by any means this to be a pure jamaican landrace I assume it will end up be a hybrid of some sort. Would just like to get an idea of the popular gene pool.

or simple just what is run with males still in it down there.

Cheers

It sounds like your assessment is pretty solid: sativa leaning hybrid, possibly grown in the blue mountains. Cannabiogen and Underground Seed Collective both maintain a strain from there. USC used it in their Double Jam, and in the description, they have this to say about it:

Quote:
The second Jamaican line used for this project is more recent, from the 80's: Jamaican Blue Mountain, preserved since then by Cannabiogen seedbank . More compact and quick to flower, it needs 14 weeks of flowering, developing huge buds with sweet strawberry flavour, a bit woody, and a stimulating and electric effect.
I say grow out the seeds and find out! Just make sure to make more seed, 'cause it sounds like it might be special.

The Blue Mountains are a famous ganja growing region. We all think of Jamaica as a low lying island but the high point is over 7000 feet. The isolation, reputation, and altitude tell me that there's good ganja grown in those hills.
It's obvious that it's hybrid which is disappointing to the landrace seekers but also has benefits. Higher potency, shorter flowering time, bigger yield, and easier to grow plants. The Blue Mountains are very wet there's no way you could grow heavily Indica Dutch strains up there. There has to be quite a bit of native genes in those seeds to withstand the moisture and the jungle.
Of course the other question is whether the buds were actually from the Blue Mountains. It's a hell of a lot easier to get rid of seedy brick weed if it's legendary Jamaican cannabis then if it's from Tijuana. I always take things with a grain of salt. Regardless you enjoyed the cannabis, it sounds like good smoke. Those seeds might be something special. You should pop those seeds before they get much older, cross the best males with best females.

I thought most of the original Jamaican cannabis was from India. Not being any native landrace on the island, all imported from India and that area during trading days.

Now a days it's anyone best guess.
