So for as long as i can remember the whole story behind kush being named that was it was a variety of cannabis originating from the hindu kush mountainous regions. This always made perfect sense to me so i had never thought anymore about it.
Last week i had the tv on for background noise as i was doing some work on the laptop and some people were on trip to the middle east and were talking about the significance of the camel caravans through out history and how they are still relevant today. After the presentation it was time for them to get up on the camels and take a trip along an old route. The camels being so tall unlike a horse you cannot simply saddle and hop on them they usually lay down to make it easy for the riders. The old men who were in charge of the camels instructed to them "KUSH!" and all the camels began kneeling and laid down so everyone could hop on for a ride. It would make sense to me that the term would also be used for marijuana and the heavy indicas that would knock you out and make you lay down. This would make more sense and would also help put rest the debate of the origins of what we know and consider "kush strains" . If the word came from the term that is used to tell camels to lay im sure the term is used for people and other animals not just reserved for camel trainers ( although they were/are the smugglers with their camel caravans so it could possibly be a reference since this is the way a lot of cannabis is moved around the middle east) with all the "hippies" that were flocking to Afghanistan in the early 60s-70s its quite possible that it was picked up as a slang term that simply described good cannabis and not an actual strain someone literally brought back as many people now days preach...?

Last century some indica's sourced from the Hindu Kush mountains were appropriately named as such. Now the name is merely a marketing tool for every so called breeder and his dog for any indica-dominant mashup that they can pass off as a "kush".
Just my 2 cents..

Ironically, Kush means killer... but all these kids bandying around the term have no idea.
Hindu Kush = Indian killer, mountains so harsh that Indians will not survive, only the Afghanis from there can

also I remember the term "hashischins", something like that ... could be a French word. referred to the old-times practice of pirates getting loaded on hash before robbing and/or assassinating people. |

Yes, but the original story was that they were lured with hash and women, then used for killing ...IIRC ?

They were Assyrian.
They would sweat lodge with cannabis colas placed on the hot rocks seeds and all. Then they would rampage or berserk whilst high. Assassin comes from hashischin due to the victim being taken unaware, similar to the raids preformed by the horsemen. |

(Citing from memory and roughly, but i went a lot into it a few years ago)
Hassassin comes from Hassan followers, and that Hassan is Hassan Ibn Sabbah, aka "The Old Man from the Mountain", although not the only one to hold that post, Alamut, somewhere in Persia, circa XI and XII century Them ismailites had resources as a militia very much alike we see today for yihadist camps, but hashish wasn't part of the game, for Hassan Ibn Sabbah was very drastic in behaviour and hashish was for pariah or dissolute folk. The first time recorded of Hassassin related to evil drugged comes from the XV century by a catholic priest, up until then and afterwards it meant something like "cunny" or "effective". The sect of hassassins is still running, and its head is the actual Aga Khan. The link between assassin and hassassins comes from late XIX century. Ask Edgar Allan Poe for the actual use, as it's his own work. The perceived story about the Old Man of the Mountain leader of the Hassassins is by mid XX century the work of Vladimir Bartol trying to alert youth of the perils of communism in his entertaining youth novel "Alamut", but it's as real as comparing Santa Claus with Saint Nicholas, and then Saint Nicholas with Nicholas himself. Bartol's novel is freely based in the Marco Polo's description in his Book of Marvels. I'm not even getting into that. Hindu Kush is as Chaoscatalunya puts it, Killler Mountains. Seems like weed was first spotted there, too.
