Man severely burned in Gardnerville hash oil fire

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (KOLO)-- A man was hospitalized Sunday after a flash fire in Gardnerville caused severe burns on his arms, East Fork Fire Protection District Capt. Terry Taylor said.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said the fire was caused by butane-hash oil extraction of THC from marijuana.

The fire and explosion happened about 2:41 p.m. at the complex at 1330 Stodick Parkway.

The scene is considered safe and criminal charges are pending, the sheriff's office said.

Butane honey oil lab found in home after explosion

An explosion at an Orion Township home Saturday afternoon may have been caused by a butane honey oil lab in the basement, authorities reported.

One man was injured with burns to his face and lower arms after trying to light a cigarette from the stovetop.

All five in the home on the 3000 block of Gregory Road escaped the house after the explosion and subsequent fire, which blew out the windows on the lower level of the home, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The fire was reported at 3:21 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, and firefighters from the Orion Township Fire Department extinguished the fire while the sheriff’s Fire Investigator looked for the cause and source.

Later, the sheriff’s Narcotics Enforcement Team responded as a “large amount of marijuana shake” was found in the basement with the butane honey oil lab.

Butane honey oil is a potent kind of hash as the oil is vaporized and consumed, according to a report in the LA Times.

Suspected drug lab explosion injures two people at Camino home

A 39-year-old man was injured and a juvenile suffered smoke inhalation in an explosion that El Dorado County sheriff’s officials say was caused by an illegal butane extraction lab at a Camino residence.

The El Dorado County Fire Department responded about 3:25 p.m. Monday after an explosion was heard at a residence in the 5100 block of Pony Express Trail. Fire personnel notified sheriff’s deputies and detectives that the explosion might have been caused by a butane extraction operation, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Medical personnel at the scene treated Joshua Jamison of Camino for burns to his face. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was treated and released, the news release said. A juvenile also was transported to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and later released.

Two other juveniles who were inside the home when the explosion occurred were not injured, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives and an arson investigator quickly determined that the explosion resulted from an illegal butane extraction lab in the bathroom of the home that was being used to produce concentrated cannabis, the news release said.

The residence suffered considerable structural damage from the blast. Interior walls were cracked or moved, and exterior walls were pushed off the foundation, according to the news release. El Dorado County code enforcement officials were called to the scene and determined the home was unsafe to occupy.

Sheriff’s detectives subsequently served a search warrant at the home and collected evidence indicating the presence of a butane extraction lab, the news release said.

The investigation is continuing, and the Sheriff’s Office said the case will be forwarded to the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office for review. No arrests have been made.

Suspect At Large after Honey Oil Lab Explosion in Rocklin Apartment

ROCKLIN -- Windows were blown out and an apartment building was evacuated after an explosion Saturday evening.

The Rocklin Police Department reports a small honey oil operation caused the explosion at a 2nd Street apartment complex.

"All the sudden I felt the floor roll, and my ears pop, and I heard glass shattering," said neighbor John Roberston.

Robertson said he lives upstairs from the apartment where the explosion happened.

As of 8:30 p.m., it was unclear if the building would be safe to re-enter. A structural engineer will assess the damage to the building Monday and determine what repairs need to be made before residents are allowed to return home.

"Threw open their window, shoved the hose through the window and said, 'Put the freakin' fire out.' They looked at me like I'm dumb. 'What do we do with the hose?'" Robertson recalled. "There was a fire in the bathroom, basically what was going on."

A suspect ran from the scene of the explosion and has not been found by Rocklin police.

"My understanding is, we only had one person who had some real minor injuries," said Sgt. Gilbert Farrulla. "Nobody was transported to the hospital."

Other residents of the apartment building could be seen carrying belongings to their cars as they looked for somewhere else to stay.

Robertson said he's been suspicious about drug activity in the apartment beneath his for some time.

"Oh, I'm mad as heck. Yeah, I go to work everyday, I do it the right way. And you got people who sit at home and do this kind of dumb s*** all day," he said.

Education and as a reminder.

If you go back far enough, there was a similar discussion and we decided to keep it going as eyeopeners to the ingenue and reminders to old hands, because of how serious an issue it is.

Since we had that discussion, many of our worst fears have been realized with legislation enacted by lawmakers who've been shaken and scared at what just one of these "Ooop's" can do to a house full of people and those around it.

Having personally seen the aftermath of one, which totally destroyed one home and severely damaged the ones beside it, besides killing one innocent and the perpetrator, I can attest it was an eyeopener.

Kudos and accolades to SH for putting forth that effort!

Honey oil lab explodes in Rocklin

A concentrated cannabis lab exploded on a residential street in Rocklin on Saturday evening.

Rocklin police responded to reports of an explosion on the 5000 block of Second Street at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday to find evidence of a portable operation used to illegally produce butane honey oil, according to a media release.

Also known as hash oil, honey oil can have up to four times the THC concentration as marijuana. Using butane to strip away unnecessary elements quickens the extraction process but can result in fiery blasts, as seen Saturday. Sacramento County supervisors voted last year to limit sales of butane to 600 milliliters, roughly equal to a pint glass, in an effort to crack down on illegal labs.

The suspect fled the scene on foot and had not been caught as of Monday morning. Second Street was closed from Maple Street to Rocklin Road while police investigated the blast’s cause. No injuries had been reported and the surrounding community was not considered to be at risk.
