Aeration for my soil

I'm looking to add lava rock into my soil mix, but am unsure of what and where to get it. Can I use granule (5/16) lavarock for fireplaces/gas log sets or do I want something different?

Yep, scoria. It's super cheap at landscaping places. If some of the chunks are too big you can just smash 'em into smaller bits.

why not use dry stall (pumice)? At the feed store it will cost about $12 for a 40 lb bag.

Would it be ok to use clay pebbles instead of perlite?
