Honey Vape - Co2 and Cold Spun refining?
Hello icmag members!
I am new to this site and though this would be a great post to start with! So lets start, I work for a collective in the greater Los Angeles area and a new product has come across our shelves. The brand is called honey vape and a rep/owner came to our shop for a demonstration. The product is very yellow and is tested about 75% thc by sc labs. They come in a steel and borosillicate glass kanker tech atomizer. I am very interested to hear feedback or if anyone has heard of it?? The rep told me about a secondary process that is called "cold spun" to further refine the oil. And also he told me they reintroduce the terpenes once the oil is decarboxylated and the oil still comes out yellow as no other. I was wonder if someone (maybe the amazing gw) could help to explain some of these techniques such as this cold spun refining? All info on refining techs are welcome!!! happy growing!! Tizyite |

Google turned up nothing.. except that one of the popular searches was "cold spun honey".. ironic. Whipped crystallized honey.. yum. I would think the rep would explain the process for you.

Yea i did my own research before posting and didn't find much. I know the rep would tell me about it but that is very bias. Of course they have the best stuff. Anyways this stuff is flying off the shelves and its really strong also. Im still searching for any info on this centrifuge refining process. Maybe this bump will help!

Cold spun refining
Just my two cents
The cold refining process is an alternative to winterization, preceded by neutralization. Use of the process is, however, confined to oils with a relatively low FFA content otherwise the oil losses are too high. During the process a small amount of acid is added to the crude oil without prior heating. Once the oil has been thoroughly infused, and following a brief retention period, the oil is cooled. The caustic quantity required for neutralizing the free fatty acids is combined with the oil. The oil is then directed through crystallizers and housed for up to seven hours. Following, the oil should be mildly heated to reduce the thickness before the soapstock is separated in a centrifuge along with the waxes. The dewaxed neutral oil has to be washed to reduce the soap content. Once the oil is heated, the required wash water quantity is added, and after thorough mixing with the oil, it is separated again in a second centrifuge. Finally, the oil is dried in a vacuum dryer. |

thanks tasty clouds thats a lot of help. So is it possible to completely clean these extracts after they have added acid into it? This process seems much more extensive to be adding something back in but the lab results from sc labs seem to test below ppm levels. Is this oil superior because of this process?

Thin film or wiped film distillation would be my guess. I could see a sales rep calling them a cold spun because some units have spinning disc to thin the oil for better heat transfer and the process is under a high vacuum so it is kind of cool.
If the process was so cold you would still have plenty of THC acid left and you wouldn't have to reintroduce terpenes because the natural terpenes would have not been vaporized. |
