I have always wondered what is the advantage of growing autoflower strains indoors.
People who are doing it,is there any particular reason except coriousity? |

Quick turn around...~60-75 days the crop is finished. Not messing with light regimen. Usually 18/6 or 16/8 the entire grow. Great for small spaces. Fewer supplemental applications....pretty much bloom feed if doing soil. Some autos are "super" requiring 90-100 days.
CONS: less yield, but again seed to harvest on days mentioned above...it's great. Grew photoperiods decades ago indoors...takes forever, dinking with lights. Been growing/breeding autos for 10 years. Simple, easy. Some will tout, but we love them! Know many that have autos along with photos using 16/8 light...autos are done by the time lights flipped to 12/12.

If you've only one space and light autos will out yield the photos with same space every time. Plus unless you have a clone dealer nearby you won't be harvesting photos in 60 days.
Gimme a handful of auto seeds and 10-11 weeks and I can have a crop sold while I just put photos started same time to flowering room, small commercial growers dream ime.

Some of the reasons I am an Auto grower;
1/ Sweet Seed autos are as strong as most Photos in my experience (the only Auto's i grow) 2/ I grow in an out building, so I don't need heaters really during half the year when its cold 3/ I veg for 4 weeks, flower for 6, so bud every 6 weeks! 4/ I hit gram per watt in 10 weeks from seed with the larger yield strains 5/ You don't need to worry about light leakage as all plants using the same light cycle 6/ Its easy to run a few different types in same tent i think 7/ They seem to be more resilient than a lot of strains given their background They are ideal for beginners. And are so good its hard not to keep growing them. Last edited by doob; 09-24-2015 at 05:00 PM.. |

interesting to hear what you guys are saying about yield... when I had some limited experience with low ryder type autos years ago, low yield was a big factor, but I see more and more monster size autos in peoples pics here... which strains do you think of as high yielding and what kind of yield per plant were you getting?
cheers j |

Had my first auto finish this year, outdoor in Denver in my flower garden, Flash Seeds Onyx. Started indoors in 4 inch peat pots under t5s and waited till about week 3 sexed and then planted peat pot directly into ground. Direct sun for around 5 hours a day and a brief splash later in the evening, yield around 1/2 oz for one foot tall plant. Quality was surprisingly good, reminiscent of some of the outdoor I used to buy 15+ years ago, but definitely wouldn't stand up against the top shelf here in Colorado. The amazing thing was everything else around the plant was covered in slugs (crazy slugs this year), aphids, mites, caterpillars, and tons of PM from the rain, however that one autoflower was COMPLETELY pest free, and no PM. 1/2 oz of smoke for basically no work; and was done in 11 weeks on the dot.

Check afterthought out. I documented some for aridbud and was really impressed with the quality of most. Starting some blue blazes crosses I made now.
Got 9 seeded ozs off a 20 gauge in less then 5 gallons soil organic. Some my pics in description thread.

Thanks, dickcorn, for your tip of the hat endorsement for afterthought autos. We pride ourselves in creating/hybridizing some awesome genetics.
