Council may run its own brothels Friday 01 February 2008 Amsterdam’s Centrum borough council is considering running a number of red light district windows itself and renting them to independent prostitutes, news agency ANP reported. ‘We want good, bona fide prostitutes in the area,’ GroenLinks councillor Bob van Schijndel said. The city council is currently clamping down on red light district crime and has bought a number of buildings from sex industry magnate Charles Geerts. An investigation into the setting up of council-run brothels should be completed within one month, Van Schijndel said. |

Can you imagine? "Ohh, yeah, baby pull down my panties with your teeth!" [right before the guys starts to do the hooker] *with a stony look on her face* "You need to fill out forms x-69x and 822.88 to proceed further. You will receive a response in 6-8 weeks in the mail. If you are denied you can appeal the decision through blah blah blah..." The people who run the Post and the NHS wnat to be in the business of prostitution? That's phucking crazy! These people are not right-wingers, they are Statists. This means they want government to every person's personal life and not allow the society to change unless the government manages the change completely. This is evidenced by the government buying up the RDL so THEY can decide the who what when and where of prostitution. They are using "public safety" as an excuse to control peole and expand their power. Governments have always used the "public safety" excuse for all sorts of oppression for hundreds of years. We cannot stand for it anymore. |

Looking for good whores isn't the point of the back in the day story there buddy. I think you missed my point. If you want some whores they are all over craigslist. The point was Amsterdam is changing. First it's the giant Cock fountain being taken down, then it's the smart shops, then no more alcohol at coffee shops and now it's the red lights. It's not the same Amsterdam I remember from my first trip there. For someone to go there for their first time now they would never have the same culture shock type of experience that I had my first time there. I have never been anywhere in the U.S. where you walk down the streets and see women selling themselves in the windows(I've seen dirty whores on the streets of hollywood). I have yet to go into a McDonalds and look out the window across the street and see a sex shop with huge ass plugs and crazy taboo/fetish videos on display in there windows. A lot of people are shocked when I tell them about my experience in A'dam.

did not recognize those windows at first but now i think i do as that area along the canal near the bridge where the red lights start and the old sailor is on the other side of the canal at the next bridge up, correct?
last time i was in the dam was november/2004 on my honeymoon but the previous decade i had spent 2 or 3 weeks each year in this city and loved every minute of it. even in 2004 things were changing in that coffee shops that closed were not granted a new license to reopen again. generally stayed at the crown plaza near central station as about the best i could afford. across the street from the hotel were many blue lights. are they still there? never was interested enough to stick my nose in these places but was always told that is where the real kinky stuff happened? it will be a shame if the politicians start to change things because in spite of all the zaniness, the city is well controlled. my last trips through the north africans were manning those bridges into the red light district pretty heavy with whatever crap they had for sale, but the police were on top of it. have a great time in this great city, but remember to respect! biteme |
