Washing off soil to put into hydro???

Hey everyone a quick question:

I have a SWT#3 clone that is pretty big now and I want to put it in my waterfarm. Is this possible? Can I carefully wash off all of the soil and then place the hydroton around it? If anyone has done this before please PM me of post here because I really want to get this hydro system of mine up and running now that I got my pH problems takin care of (Hopefully).... If anyone has done this get back to me please.. Thanks everyone!

its even better if the soil is on the dry side, yo ucan just shake the soil off in a bag. or if its wet already go ahead and rinse in a bucket

Yeah its possible,,,, i've transfered from soil to rockwool many times without a problem - although my clones were no where near the size of yours.

What you want to do is submerge the entire plant (pot n all) in water. Leave it there for a few mins for the soil to become saturated and "loose", then gently slide it out the pot. Most of the soil will drop away naturally (the perlite will float to the top) though you may get quite a few bits still clinging to the roots. Personally i use a syringe to remove these last bits ~ kinda like a blast from a power hose :)

Good luck

Yeah it's fine as long as they don't have a large root system. The bigger the roots, the easier they get damaged in the process.

Just let the soil dry out then shake off as much dirt as possible, then soak in a bucket or cup of water. Get as much soil off as possible. Putting it under the sink last works well but could be harmful to the plant so do at your own risk. I've done it before but the plant might go into shock. Use thrivealive/superthrive if you have some in the hydro res.

Many times...get running water and fill the pot as to overflow it keep doing this till the roots gets loose,,,pull plant out...then you have the root mass..depending on how big the roots mass is..you can soak the root mass in a bucket and shake anything loose... I can get everything off the roots,,need a few tools like a pin, toothbrush to get the bark that usually is harder to get off

Get a pan or tub big enough to work in without banging sides and a dish to rinse in. Soap wash hand and alcohol rinse before touching roots. Gentle, gentle, like taking the panties off a 19 year old flower for the first time. Suppport the plant along one hand and forearm, leaving the other free to gentle off the soil. Don't worry too much about a few clumps left in the roots. The lady will be less stressed if you hum, sing, or tell her lies while you work with her to make her feel special. Explain to her how she will fullfil her nature by enriching your spirit.

take out of pot ...wash roots off in sink and place in hydroton...ive done it and been succesfull but it takes a few days for the roots to really take to the new medium and you could prolly have another clone rooted and growing almost as fast.

Ok here is the thing,I always, always use soil before hydro in buckets. To preveg in soil makes for a nice root structure, and in my opinion gives a little soul back to the plant that the hydro yakes away. I have talked about this before in other threads but here is what I mean.

From seed in rooters:

Then preveg in soil:

Then on to the buckets and the mom's will stay in pots. It does help for the soil to be on the dry side but trust me you will have no ill effect if done correctly.

just put the thing in the waterfarm and fill in empty space with hydroton.
waterfarms hold two gallons of water if ph fluctuates its easy to change.
i love waterfarms i have 8 and run them seperate and its work if you leave the soil just turn off drip ring when lights go out...i have done this infact even in hydroton they like the pump off at night..just my.02 waterfarms can grow monsters!!!

Done it lots. Im a dry transplanter myself. I find the drier the medium the easier it is to have the soil fall away.Wet soil seems to rip roots because of pure density of it when wet... I start all clones in soil and move them into the trays when the root structure is large enough.

Sucess! Well at least I hope

Sucess! Well at least I hope

Thanks to everyone for the replies... It was a little harder than I thought to get all the soil off because of the massive root structure, but will a little bit of time, a little bit of effort, and a huge amount of water I got the roots about 95% clean which I think will be sufficient.

- How long does it usually take for the transplanted plant to get used to the new hydro and start growth again?

- Has anyone had sucess with two plants in a waterfarm? If so can I gets some tips from them. I wanted to do all hydro this time around because I have 2 femn'd WWxBig Bud and 1 femn'd grapefruit (the grapefruit was the 1st plant to go into the hydro setup but it got f@cked up because I found out I have to much calcium carbonate in my tap water). I put the grapefruit into soil in hopes that it will come back, but I think the damage has already been done. The two WWxBig Bud are on their 2nd node as of today, so I want to make another waterfarm or something of the sort so I can grow those hydroponically as well.

Im including a pic of what I did so everyone can see.. Thanks again to everyone.

I tried to grow 2 in one waterfarm and 1 plant grew but the other didn't. Now that I know how big they get, no way can you put more than 1 in a waterfarm bucket, get another bucket.

Thanks again guys, My digital pH meter came in the mail and the rez pH is at 6.0. Im colorblind so it was hard as f@ck to read the color strips. Anyone have any good links on how to make a waterfarm type system? Thanks again

this my third year growing indoors non-stop and rules im learning are bendable peace to all magic

.............well I’m not saying it can’t be done, but what soil that is left of the roots may fuck with your ph a little but other than that you good to go….

i have run my waterfarms with coco-tek you just turn pumps off at nite
as for ph fluctuation with the soil depends on whats in the soil and how much.two gallons of water makes it rather easy to change.me personaly would have dealt with the ph problem rather than stress the hell out of the plant, but thats the wonderfull thing about cultivation so many ways to go about it.to each his own peace magic
