PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- A veteran of the U.S. Marines who is now an advocate for marijuana became the first person Monday to get a ticket under Philadelphia's new law.
The citation was arranged in advance between Mike Whiter and the Philadelphia Police Department. At 8 a.m., he lit a joint in the City Hall courtyard and was promptly given a ticket carrying a $100 fine.
The new law makes Philadelphia the largest city in the country to decriminalize small quantities of marijuana. Under the law, possession of an ounce or less gets a $25 fine, while consuming the drug in public is pricier -- $100 plus possible community service.
In an interview with Philadelphia magazine, Whiter said that he has found marijuana is the most effective drug for his PTSD. He is the founder of Pennsylvania Veterans for Medical Marijuana. "My intention is to point out that Philadelphia finally decriminalized marijuana, that it's the largest city in the country to do so, and I'm here representing veterans who use marijuana for medicine. And we still can't get our medicine legally. I can go out and smoke and get a $100 fine. I won't get put in cuffs, but I'm still not going to have legal access to my medicine," he said.

THIS IS NOT DECRIMINALIZATION!!!

Rather, it is a perfect example of legalized Armed Robery!

Think about it...
An unarmed pot head w a bag of weed is confronted by an armed thug in jack boots, uniform & metal star.
Thug demands pot head to empty pockets & when a little pot is found it is seized then pot head is fined because thug was "just doing his job".

Hey Stoned Trout,
Isn't a $25 ticket still a fine?

As long as We The People allow government to act as the authority, government will treat us as the subjects they want us to be.

It's time for We The People to take our authority back!

Police, judges, lawyers & politicians are all leaches upon society.
They produce absolutely nothing useful.

I completely agree w your sentiment but calling this decriminalized is only throwing dirt in the eyes of our future.

All I am saying is to not let these power hungry legislators change the meanings of these terms & confuse the illiterate (non dictionary using) public.

Does anybody know WHY we have legal/law dictionaries?
The purpose is to distinguish between the common every day spoken language from the special language spoken in the legal profession. Terms found in legal dictionaries are refered to as "words/terms of art"... meaning they are defined differently than the common language.
