What's new

im sure this has been answered a million times

but the search function here isn't all that great. how long after pollination before I can tell if it took? its been 3 days, I was thinking I should have started seeing the pistils go dark and start retracting by now

Give it couple more days. It may take up to 5-7 days before you can see the seed bract swelling. Even if the pistil dies off, it could just be from contact, and not necessarily from pollination.

If you still have pollen, hit it again. It can't hurt.

ya id say a few days up to a week before u will really know.. for sure.. but is it fresh pollen or stored pollen?

or a male plant in the room?

I hit the select buds 3 days in a row with fresh dropped pollen on the end of a paintbrush. if they don't take then the pollen must me bad or something. I just thought I would see some signs that pollination had actually occurred by now.

I will give it a few more days before I determine weather or not it has
vi suppose

it is a cantaloupe haze male crossed to a hindu kush, a hash bomb, and an unknown bagseed (it must have been decent smoke though if I saved it)

You should be good to go, hitting your ladies 3 days in a row. (No black eyes tho... lol... jk)

I prefer using a Q-Tip over a paint brush. They seem to really hold n transfer pollen better. IME at least.

good luck.

I really hope at least the hash bomb seeds take. I wanst able to root them for clones. at least it will survive as a haze cross.

hopefully with the growth structure and yield of the hash bomb and the easier rooting of the haze. and I will take any combination of the smells

i dunno if it's ever been answered honestly, i've been here a while and read a lot of threads. can't recall any where someone asked specifically how long before you can tell if the pollenation took.

based on my own experience as with everything i say. it will take you at least 2-3 weeks before you can tell. pistil color is not really a good indicator. the best indicator i've found is the swelling. if you look at the calyxes in the area you dusted you should be able to see a noticeable swelling compared to the surrounding calyxes.

this is the best pic i could find for ya. you can see some seeds are forming and the pistil is still white.

just look for a swelling, sometimes you can see what looks like a white stripe on the calyx from where the swelling is expanding it.

Take a look at the stigmas (hairs) of a pollinated bud and unpollinated bud with a scope or magnifying glass. The hairs on the unpollinated bud should look straight or unblemished where as with the pollinated bud, if the pollen took, they should look gnarly and kinky. I usually can tell this within a day or 2. I always like to pollinate multiple times if I’m applying the pollen. It usually takes a little over a week to start to see some swelling.

wel of course they look different but they stuck to the paintbrush like I was touching a spider web. I need to just not be so impatient. im sure ate least some of the pollen took

also I pollinated all lower branches. 6 weeks into flower. hoping to leave them after harvest for reveg and also for the seeds to mature at the same time. I realize that the reveg prolly wont happen until after the seed mature

...they stuck to the paintbrush like I was touching a spider web.

You have to use an artist’s touch, j/k. Yeah I’ve pulled hairs right out but a delicate touch helps. As far as how they look though, the hairs kind of look like they’re dying and shriveling up. Once you’re familiar with the look you’ll be able to tell every time. I wish I could put up a picture for an example.

normally if the pistils color didn't start changing (at the time you drop the pollen), after 24-48 hours you shall be able to see the withering/drying out pistils (the ones who recieved the pollen). after 3-4 days there is the first swelling of said calyxes, after day 7+ you should be able to "see" the swollen bracets and also be able to "feel" them

First sign for me is the hairs dying/receding where they definately shouldnt be dying yet....

well like I said im late into flowering so some of the pistils are dying because of age, ut I don't see any more brown vs white on the pollinated vs un polinatted buds
