This is a recent first hand account written for edutainment purposes for what it's worth abt a good friend of mine's ordeal. I was there. I hope it helps those of us in the community be more successful in our career, and any noobs to make wiser decisions.
This summer we were pulled over outside of Amarillo on I-40 in the middle of bum fuck nowhere w/ over a 100lbs of loud from Cali in a RENTED SUV (red flag) w AZ plates (another red flag). The work was triple sealed in suitcases. Not my buddies first rodeo, but u grab the bull u get the horns sometimes I guess.
The traffic stop was bogus. Supposedly we were driving on the medium illegally. But bc of construction on that stretch of highway cones forced all east bound drivers into an artificial lane which led over the medium. Also we were supposedly 10 miles under the speed limit in the left lane but we were excelerating. The speed limit is 75fyi and going 65 is not a traffic crime.
We were pulled over and complied w the officers orders, and were separated. (U have to step out of the vehicle legally if they ask) so we did and shut the doors behind us. They sat my boy in front of the cruiser uncuffed while his l's was run and came back clean. So did my L's. They then asked my boy who they said looked nervous (he just drank the equivalent of 5 cups of caffeine for the leg to okc) if they could search the vehicle. He said "absolutely not" the cop, ironically named Officer Dollar then said "we'll I don't give a fuck I smell weed." He opened the car and It didn't take long for them to find the packs and take us down to a chop shop.
At that point my buy said shut the "fuck up" to me and neither of us spoke for the next few hours in their custody. Except to refuse an offer to do a controlled drop for them. While the cops were busy taking trophy shots for their little "Desert Snow" program buddies, we sat hand cuffed to chairs for 3 hours. We were polite but didn't make small talk or answer any questions. NO matter how "cool" they were.
We were booked and sat in County for a night. My boy had his emergency fund and it was activated w one phone call. We had 2 separate Attorneys, his and mine and a cool bail bonds lady J&L Bailbonds. By the next day at 430pm we saw a judge posted 10% bond on 20k a piece each and were out in time to cash the check they gave us for the 1k my boy had on him. Lawyers cost 10k each upfront.
My boy recently accepted a deal 4 years adjudicated probation helllllah community service the max fine and list of other shitty provisions. Like if he screws up once he goes down for a max sentence or how ever long the judge feels like that day w no right of appeal. And his lawyer sucked balls. He never spoke w him once abt his case no matter how many times he called and emailed. He kept asking my boy if he was actually a felon right up to trail just bc of his tattoos. Which he isn't he's a business man and a care giver. I got walked by the DA bc my boy said it was all his. He looked out for me.
Anyway friends it could have been worse a lot worse, or it could have been better. Hopefully you end up experiencing the later.
P.s. lab report records show they only received 108lbs in the final count. This is America liberty of a few at the expense of the rest of us.
