A Dutch judge delivered a surprising verdict in a case concerning an owner of a cannabis distribution center ("coffeeshop"): guilty of possession of 100 kilograms marihuana and hashish but no punishment.

The judges demand that the Dutch government adjusts its front door/back door policies. Right now, the selling of small amounts of cannabis in special pubs is allowed, but possession is strictly limited to 500 grams in total for the owner of the shop. In other words, the front door of the shop is more or less legal while the back door is illegal, so the shop owners and producers of cannabis risk arrest at any time. Until the rules change, the judges refuse to take any kind of punitive measures against unlucky growers and owners.
