Nice looking glass..

I have been seriously interested in taking this up. I have taken two glass blowing classes thus far..

Can you get in to some detail about your setup and tools and what a realistic cost to get started is?

Thanks
GC

Thank you!... $2000 to $3000 maybe? The big ticket items are obviously the torch and kiln, but all the other little stuff adds up like crazy too (hoses, regulators, marver pads, paddles, reamers...). My first setup was a Nortel minor and a moderate sized skutt kiln. That torch is one of the smallest torches on the market, but it's a great beginning torch. A lot of the stuff I've posted in here was made with it... Tools can be tricky to recommend. A couple tools I couldn't live without are tweezers and jacks, but some guys don't use them at all... It wouldn't hurt to take a few more classes so you can get more comfortable with different tools and techniques. That'll save you from buying something that you'll never really use.... The torch I use now is a Carlisle CC. It's a really good torch, but the flame can be a bit aggressive sometimes. I looking to get a Bethlehem champion in the next few months.

Really nice glass work! Love the Sherlock's. I too am curious if you had a good teacher. I've also heard that some of the fumes can be bad on the lungs is that true? Keep up the good work!

Peace

Excellent Efforts you gotta tell us how you got into this, and is it expensive... like heating and getting the gear..?

Nice glass.

What about cleaning ?

I would just keep a vat of Acetone and drop a dirty pipe in there. Give it time to dissolve the black crud.

I use metal tools to clean metal parts on a pipe that is metal & plastic.

I think I might break a glass pipe.

How do you guys clean your glass pipes ?

I personally like to use boiling water, but I temper all of my glass with uncomfortably hot tap water first; if I need exfoliation I like to use rock salt or more commonly I will use uncooked rice (because its there).

Iso and rock salt works, but I find there's an aftertaste I need boiling water to get rid of; so I just use boiling water to get rid of that first step.
