Red stemed fan leaf

It is logical most people think it's genetics.
If you grow a tall plant with few sidebranches, sativa leaves and a high calyx to leave ratio you are almost guaranteed to get purple stems.
So, what else could it possibly be?

If we knew the answer we could easily prevent it most of the time.

Absolutely just genetics.

My petitoles will def turn purple/red when the plant is asking for certain nutrients such as MG for example and that is straight science proven they will show other signs shortly after so it can be a sign that your plants are soon going to become def in my example MG.

Ok, I have a few questions. Or actually enough of them to fill a whole new section, so I'll start asking.

If it is genetics which strains would you recommend that stay green?

If it is a shortage of MG how exactly do I fix that?

Could it be anything else?

Doodahman,

If you'll notice, there's not dozens of posts in the sick plant forum about this or in any section that discusses the good and bad points of particular strains. How big a deal can this whole matter be, given that fact. I dont recall seeing post that read; HELP!!!.......RED STEMS, PLANTS DYING!!!!!!!. I grow in a very simple organic mix and water with molasses at 1tbs/ gal, has a good amount of MG, and some of my plants show this phenomenon and some don't. No, I don't grow bball bat size buds on my plants, but I'm happy and they seem fine.

I sure wouldn't consider this a concern when making a strain selection. Lots more important things to think about than whether the red/purple mystery shows or not.

Wow I guess I really stirred it up with that question. But thanks for all the responses, I will leave the red stem fan leaves on in the future, less stress in flowering.

once you get through the bs, a good debate can hold vast amounts of good info...just need to read between the lines, so to speak.
