I guess I've put this off long enough, so here's my two cents worth...
After two other 15+ year careers, raising kids on my own & a now empty nest, and a few personal grows of wildly varying success/failure over, let's see... sh!t it's been 30 years now (off & on, albeit mostly off as real life got in the way), I'm making a transition and planning for the coming 2016 rec mj referendum here in ME. A couple patients, my caregiver's cert, a couple more years more intensely learning the craft (instead of dabbling), eventually get in line for a rec license... and maybe if the stars align correctly with investors, maybe build a nice Norwegian-style vertical greenhouse, maybe open a coffee shop/retail store, or... who knows???
Life's too short. Time to live & enjoy the journey.

Not entirely a newb, 'tho not nearly as experienced as many of the fine folks I've been following around here; by comparison, what I do is mere dabbling.

Have already learned so much lurking around here, enough to make me re-write my mental grow guide (neverending).
If I'm wrong, explain it to me, the mind is open & hungry... if sometime a bit stubborn (maybe dense? lol). Sometimes I rub folks the wrong way, but it's [mostly] unintentional... I'm not the most conscious observer of people's feelings.
I do organic soil (well, mostly, I occasionally sin, as I have a tendency to be a bit of a mad scientist (or perhaps more precisely, mad scientist wannabe) indoors, under LEDs (400w+CFL supp), in a stealth cabinet (2'x3'x5', SCROG)... AACTs & SSTs, and whatever else catches my fancy (PGRs et al fascinate me). Now that the kids are gone, building out the basement into full fledged grow rooms (maybe 300sf total).
FWIW, kinda off the grid (don't even own a flip-phone, much less a smartphone, so pictorial grow journals will have to wait), at least as much as one can in my current job. I like it that way. Simple is good (LMAO, they would shoot me at work for that!).
As to what I can contribute?
Beyond my relative paucity of organic growing experience, I have some biz & coding skills (financial analytics), and a passion for monetary macroeconomics & Delphic Optimalism. Wanna know why Ron Paul is an idiot (on the gold standard nonsense, anyway)? Just ask me...
