Rockwool question I can't find anywhere

My grandmother used to grow all kinds of indoor plants in rockwool but unfortunately she's no longer around to ask questions. The main question I have is are you supposed to let rockwool dry out to avoid root rot? I've seen videos and post on rockwool but no one ever touches on this. I'll be setting up a top feed set up and basically I want to know how I should time the watering and feeding. My boy uses soil outdoors and feeds one day, plain water the next, then nothing the third day. I asked him but he said he doesn't know much about the medium. Any help is appreciated.

Should be kept moist but not saturated. If it dries out completely it will kill off roots which will affect your plant. Feed every watering. It holds nothing. Flush with a clearing solution once per month.
What type of system are you using it in?

Like Resiryder said. I always keep mine moist and feed them every 4 hours during lights on, also I would put a lil white plastic cover on them so not have that green algee built up on the surface.

I'm going to use a top feed with a home made drip system. (Pump to a manifold, feeder tubes with 4 drip holes) I'll feed on a timer so I'll have to watch it to determine on/off times. I'm going for a SOG perpetual harvest. I'm gonna build a slightly angled table with collection gutters to catch run off. My mothers I'll plant in a standard soilless mix for ease of maintenance.

You might want to use Drip Clean to keep the salts buildup from clogging the dripper tubes. If that happens it will ruin your grow before you realize it.

You should never let the rockwool dry out, as the roots will then die too, so always maintain a bit of moisture in them. If they do happen to dry out completely, then water them as soon as possible, give the plant(s) a misting and reduce light levels until new roots are grown, and the plant can (hopefully) recover ;)
