One pheno from my Masibindi x Warlock x (Zamal B x Warlock) cross was all foxtails but they were grouped into big bud masses. Once harvested and the leaf was trimmed, they looked remarkably like ThaiBliss' Oaxacan foxtails. Click on the image and expand the size and you'll see the foxtails separately in those clumps.

Strangely enough 80% of the trichomes were red by September 1st so I harvested this girl by September 6th and had a few bowls of trimmed foxtails soon thereafter, all nicely curing in a 1/2 gallon Mason jars. Diesel and fruit all the way.

Here's the Masibindi x Critical Mass pheno that most resembles "Big Bud", the reworked variety that Shantibaba morphed into Critical Mass. A good bit of Oaxacan in there as well, but no foxtails, just thick, dense buds.

Sept is early for your neck of the woods. Love your area just sitting down and enjoying the smell and view. Too good. Aloha DB

Hello to all, my thanks for the showplace for the patient grower. I run collective Bagseed and will occasionally have the good fortune to stumble upon something with heavy Sativa characteristics. Currently I have two (that I loving call Skeksis) who stand out and will obviously take much longer than their contemporaries to make their honey. My flower room is a walk in 4 x 4.5 closet powered by a combination of a 400 watt HID paired with a 90 watt UFO LED centered that are augmented by four 42 watt CFLs along the walls to handle the weak spots; twelve 5 gallon buckets handle the girls nicely my daily routine is to rotate the system so that all are given a spot in the middle of the room where the intensity is strongest. This round was put under short hours just about a month ago but one of the two Skeksis was from the wave before (no record keeping here so I don't have any details). I've encountered this phenotype several times before but never given them the time to complete their run, hopefully with these I'll find the insights here to allow them to make it to the finish line.

Not a pure sativa, but a long flowering Neville's Haze seed plant from Mr Nice Seeds. I bought the seed I think in 2010/11??? Not sure.

I'm growing a few of these, but this one is my favorite...I call her "big sis."

There's another NH in the background with purple stems, but her sister is photo bombing her right now. I gotta tie up that branch!

Weak by comparison to most of the stuff posted here

Weak by comparison to most of the stuff posted here

but this is my first pure sativa in decades. ACE Guatemala, stealth grown in a hole to offset her height and chopped at 80 days. 8 foot ladder for scale, lower growth trimmed off due to the hole.

I need some help from the experts here.

A friend handed me a few (dam few), seeds, said they would grow Really tall if allowed and had a 'substantial' High,,, after 20 weeks or so of blooming.

The bag they were in was labeled Beanho??? NL5 X Hz X SSHz

Tha Haze part of life I can almost understand, but what is the Genetic makeup of NL5? I thought Northern Lights was a standard genetic input for Indica and shorter bloom times?

I'm about to put these five seeds in the propagation tray, so any help would be most appreciated. These are 'as usual', the last seeds in captivity that he has.

I'm always amazed that the seed stocks of the 'best' strains are allowed to get so low, although if this one really takes 20 weeks bloom, the time could well be a major factor.

I will of course be doing this indoors, making efforts to keep the stray pollen out. Wish me luck. My friend says that these stretch about 5X after the flip. This'll be a challenge, I'm thinking. lol

edit; I don't have the background knowledge to be a 'pollen chucker' so the run will be a simple 'back cross'.

Hi Legal,

If my memory serves me, and it often doesn't, NL was a particular Indica strain that got crossed with Thai along the way. I don't quite remember if it was #5, #7, or some other variation. Anyway, if it goes 20 weeks with 25% Northern Lights, you can be assured that it is less than 25% Indica, in my opinion, even though that I believe there is Indica in the SSH also. I would expect variation on the flowering times, most likely, unless it was inbred with selective pressure for the most Sativa individuals.

Sounds like you may have something very good there. I wish you luck, and I hope to see your posts with updates here.

Some valuable info to clear things up on the story of Northern Lights 5::tiphat:

Aloha,

The base plants for the entire Seattle Northern Lights strains 1 to 10 was a batch of seed sent from Afghanistan that ended up in Herbie's employers hands who just happened to be an old friend from High School so I was able to get four seeds. Then I started doing seed crops of the pure Indica and crossing it with other strains from Nepal, Mexico, and Columbia.

I had clones and seed and NL#5 was Hawaiian x Steve Murphy's Afghani Strain that is what I sent to Nevil. Steve Murphy owned The Indoor Sun Shoppe in Seattle. NL #5 was a F1 hybrid in 1982.

Northern lights # 1 was Nevils Afghani crossed with the Seattle Afghan strain form Steve Murphy.

I have been breeding since 1970 and he got NL from me. I sent seed to Ben and Kees at Sensi too for giving me the nutrient formula for Grodan and Seattle water.

The 11 strains were graded by height and flavor for indoor growing. The #1 was a short phenotype pure Indica from Afghanistan as was #2,3, & 4. #5 to #11 were the Hybrids with the narrow leaved strains we worked with.

The 11 packets of seed Nevil received were graded the #1 ,2, 3, were 100% indica, #5 the clone I traded Herbie Nelson for was 50% Afghani & 50% Hawaiian sativa. The others #6-#11 were crosses with Columbian, Thai, and Mexican Sativas. Nevil then sold out to Ben, became partners with Arjan, and then hooked up with the Mr. Nice Crew.

Sorta off topic, but I think I remember reading somewhere that NL1xNL5 was Ortega Indica...

HB.

Your nevilles haze is lookin good brother . I'm posted for reports on the AP n LP x NH

Nevil quote below

I don't know what Ed is calling Maple leaf.
Ortega 15 was Maple leaf. This was crossed with AfgTx Sk and AfgS x sk males.
AfgT and AfgS were both sisters and pure maple leaf. Maybe Ed thought that AfgS meant Afg(Sam). It doesn't. The hybrid Ed is talking about is 3/4 Maple Leaf.
N.

Btw I'm posting from my phone don't know how the face got there or what it means

Much respect
