Having Problem Making Shatter-Usually turns into Sugar Wax or Honeycom

Hey guys new to extraction and this forum. Currently Im using a vac chamber and robinair vacuum pump to purge in combination with a hot plate. My slabs are usually shatter early in the extraction process (although not very stable) but about halfway through extraction they start to wax up. I purge for about 48 hours and try to keep temps at 95 fahrenheit (although it can be hard because the hot plate fluctuates in temperature). Does this happen because my temperatures are too high? I have heard that agitation can cause these problems as well so I try my best not to agitate.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

have u tried flipping the slab within the first 2-6 hours of the purge(and throughout ur total purge)? i don't tend to purge shatter/taffy that long but most people that do tend to flip every 2-6 hours if I'm not mistaken.

also if ur letting the water or waterer u have u chamber in, gradually increase in temp over those 24 hours , could be leading to wax.

just my thoughts don't take them as fact haha:ying:

Get something to to place in between your vac chamber and the hotplate. It will even out your heat spikes and hopefully stop your oil from waxing.

No I haven't tried flipping the slabs I will next time to see if that works. I don't keep the chamber in water or anything it just sits on top of the hot plate. Thanks for your input hobb3s93

-29+ hg and 100-110deg f always gave me pretty stable shatter. I used a skillet i could fit my dissicator kit into, id put mason jar lids(the circle parts) in between the bottom of the chamber and the skillet itself. Fill the skillet with water until it makes good contact with the chamber. The water is needed ti create a buffer. Use a laser thermometer(available for cheap) to monitor the temps. Monitor the temps regularly as spikes are a common issue and will lead to crumble. Some strains never became shatter though and always went to crumble. Oily strains like hazes and ogs tended to make better shatter for me. Dry kiefy strains like afghan related stuff makes crumble. Not an expert just my experience. I quit extracting.

I agree with crooked8.. honestly.. I find a lot of this to be strain dependent.. when I run my small tubes 20-30 grams.. u can really tell which is going to do what..

I got a strain.. that no matter what I do.. it will eventually turn into a sugar wax or like a moist brown sugar consistency.

I also found that .. when I heat my pyrex up before spraying.. and spraying into a warm dish.. or directly into a water bath.. caused moisture to form on the tubes and eventually falls into the solution..

especially when freezing the tubes and butane.. the cans get moist.. the tube gets moist.. next thing u know.. its dripping into your pyrex.. and will wax .
