What's new

DWC 5 Gallon

I switched to DWC a while back now but will now share some improvements and future thoughts and ideas with the community.

My setup is simple,
5 gallon buckets
6" netpot lids
medium air stones
110lpm feeding 12 sites
4x4x4 rockwool cube + Hydroton clay for support and root growth

ezCloner/veg 56days, flower 56 days.
We now have solid temps 75-77 deg for veg.
Veg is 2 8 bulb T5's and a 1k MH.

Flower just got built but it's 2 8k flipped rooms.

I have ran 5 gallon lids in 27 gallon toetes, That worked well but we were robbed so It's back to the basics for a bit to get on our feet again. the small 12 were 21 days from cut, the larger 10 in back were day 41 from cut. As of today Day 48 the big ones are aprox 22" tall.

A phenomenal amount of labor goes into keeping up with that set up

F & D is quantum levels easier

see my DI Mini-Me for ideas. It is easily expanded

@Paper_Thorn, The 10 big and 12 smaller in buckets are all Durgin(?more info if anyone has it). I'm really not sure on the lineage because it was a strain that was given to us to test in hydro. After our house was robbed it was the only strain we had to pull clones from. The one that I showed the 4" cube transplant process is Alpha Dawg. She will be big enough to pull clones from for the next round.

@PetFlora, Like all systems each has advantages and disadvantages. I don't think that DWC is too labor intensive, although we should be changing buckets more frequently. My partner has played with some of the halo rings and is going to add one on the buckets though I never saw a point because our water level stays at the netpot level and gets filled daily.

I am looking into expanding the buckets into a RDWC system to reduce labor. I'll work on setting up a diagram of my thoughts and see what you guys think.

Hey dude, looking like great growth so far.

Those look like lowe's buckets. Make sure you get gray version for minimal light transparency to your reservoirs . Unfortunately ,even some of the gray ones have been thin and let in light. Batches vary.

What kind of nutrients are you running?

and is gif (jif or gif) pronounced?

Thank you!

In regards to the bucket color, I have used black, gray, and blue all side by side for growth with no difference in root dev, yeild, and no alge issues. For the rez side I have only used an open air black 27 gal tote, (my first RDWC attempt). Are you concerned about alge or other bacteria in the rez? For the next RDWC the idea for the rez is to be outside the grow room again with minimal light as it is. And i will also avoid a 3500 gph pump this time too >.<

I'm using grand master AN sensi, minus piranah/tarantula that was swapped for Orca (Great white's liquid version)

It's gif, jif, jiff, jiffy! ;)

Time for an update :D

the 30" girls in the back are now day 56 from cut, They got light locked so we will need to look into getting another T5.

I got them cleaned up and ready for flower.

The little girls, day 36 from cut got cleaned up so they can thrive for the next 20 days. Also got the clones cut for the next round.

Big girls in their new home. Keeping lights at 50% for the first few days so we can make sure all environmental controls are working well. Will get them up to 1000w within the week.

I will get some root porn for you guys later. I estimate these will squeek out when we chop em down.
