A local drug task force has busted up a Canadian-based drug ring that spread millions of dollars worth of high-grade quality marijuana known as "BC Bud" on the streets of Marion and Hamilton counties, police said today. It was part of system that may have reached as far as San Francisco and Minneapolis.
According to Carmel Police Major Randy Schalburg, director of the Hamilton/Boone County Drug Task Force, police confiscated $750,000 worth of BC Bud, $150,000 in cash, cars and weapons.
Six people have been arrested - 4 from Indianapolis, 1 from Carmel and 1 from Pendleton - over the past year and a half, police said today -- but they are seeking to arrest the suspected ring-leader, a seventh man who lives in Canada. One of those arrested was a U.S. Postal employee who apparently had the pot mailed to various homes around the area for him to pick-up and distribute.
An undercover investigation by the Hamilton/Boone County Drug Task Force began in May 2005 with the help from the Dangerous Drug Section of the Indianapolis Police Department and other local agencies. Federal authorities were also involved.
