Whole lotta shakin going on. I guess I was right about the stress.

I sincerely apologize if I offended anybody, was just trying to help cuz I had a similiar problem in the past. I may be a bit ironic at times when I see what the drug companies are doing to sell their shit, but I do not wish belittle anyone!

We all are entitled to our own opinions and being in the medical profession and I am interested in the etiology of some of these things and obliged to help my brothers and sisters in pain (who want help)
In my posts I described the pharmacology of the drugs prescribed to treat this condition (from Ms.Grat3ful's post) and gave some advice on natural remedies that have helped me in the past.
2nd post was about real drug abuse and marketing strategy of big pharma and the third post was "slightly humourous." It seems that none of them were carefully read.
And Bubble, I buried my mom 2 years ago.
That's all folks :joint:

Hey guys

Sorry to dig up such an old thread, But i have been dealing with RLS now for about 5 years. I never really thought that anyone else had experienced this, so i did a google seach..... and also decided to do a search here to see if there had been any threads or recomendations as far as strains go that can help me?

This is really something that has seemed to progress as the years go by, My wife usually messages my calves which seems to help out. But the tension in my calves always come back.

Please if anyone can recommend a strain that can help me out.....thank you in advance.

oh lord i have suffered from Restless Leg Syndrome......it has something to do wih the regulation of neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine or maybe norepinephrine or acetylcholine......it has something to do with circadian rhythms because my RLS would set in always at around 10 pm and went away around dawn (6 am).....it was like a living hell and was responsible for my inablilty to sleep for nine days straight.....i wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy......

i am so very glad that there is a cure for it and commend the big pharmaceutical companies for coming up with a pill to fight RLS.....however, once again, it looks like there is some powerful anecdotal evidence that suggests that certain strains of Cannabis can be effective in the treatment of RLS.....hopefully more formal research will be conducted and certain strains will be isolated.....

-gp out

hit the nail on the head buddy!!!!! damn pharma companies pop a pill for this and that and this and that.......

i to suffer from this and keep my wife awake at night due to me doing it IN MY SLEEP!!!! its a anxity problem IMHO~ Valium and weed have helped it!

first try a heavy duty Indica! chill you out....... if that dont work try a good Sativa like Super silver haze or Grapefruit!!! get all your energy out during the day.... working out, etc... excersise your mind tire yourself out... so the end of the day your legs wont wanna move lol... this is what i hvae done.

now my medication is helping. but i find shaking my leg very theraputic.... like meditating

They will come up with a new name for almost anything in order to sell you more crap. My favorite is the "acid reflux disease" (stop eating so much!)
People forget the importance of a proper diet and exercise, meditation and prayer. Americans want a quick fix for every ill, but it doesn't work that way always.
I would recommend stretching, tai-chi circular breathing and cutting down on junk-food, escpecially sugar. Perfumed sesame oil on the feet (soles particulary) before going to bed. This reduced stress.

Indeed! This is just another ploy for Pharma companies to sell a pill. No such thing as RLS, but there is such a thing as laziness. Ever seen a dog who has beenin a house all day? it will run itself in circles for no reason and people think its strange. it isnt, the dog is used to running around and burning energy. I fyou make a dog be lazy it needs to work off that energy so it runs in circles. If you take the dog outside each day and give it walks and let it play then when it gets home it is tired and wont run in circles.

Same holds true with people. If you are sitting on a couch watching tv and you get RLS, chances are you are being lazy and havent done much so get up!! get some exercise, make use of your muscles. No need to take a pill or smoke more pot. just be active.

You know , i have heard it all when it comes to me. i have always been in good shape ( 6ft 185) and people told me when i got over 30 i would get fat ( i eat whatever i want, junk food included and dont gain weight) and lose my hair and get sick. Well i am afew years over 30 now and still the exact same weight, still eat whatever i want and dont need to take pills for bullshit. The reason? I am active. I ride a mountain bike 30-60 miles a week, i work out 3 times a week, i play football ( soccer for USA) at least once a week and have had no problems . peopel experiance health issues when they get older due to their habits.

Dont take a heart burn pill when you eat. Dont act like a glutton and you wont get heart burn, but if you eat 150 chicken wings then chances are you will get heart burn. So stop acting like a glutton and problem solved. Pills to make your dick hard . If you look at a oussy and your dick dont get hard you have more issues than a pill can fix. pills for RLS? bullshit, get up and move your legs!!

Americans are content on killing themselves with their diet and lack of exercise and think a pill is the solution. maybe if people worked out more and didnt clog their arteries then the blood would be able to get to your dick so you can get a boner. My dad is 65 and on his 5th wife. never taken a pill for a boner and he still haves up wioth wood. If you didnt sit on your ass and actually exercised and burnt some energy maybe your legs wouldnt be restless. get up and move around or look at yourself in a mirror. chances are you needmore help than a pill can do. Change your habits and no need for a pill

Thanks for your replies fellas......

I am really not interested with any pill to pop to help curve the feelings that i get in my lower legs. I was kinda looking for a strain that will help relax my muscles and help with "knocking me the F*** out"

Mr nevermind, i hear ya on the getting up and moving around. Me and my wife work out atleast 3 days out of the week if not more. Along with the other activities that we do throught the week. but i honestly can consider my self in pretty decent shape. Im still a young buck @ "24" and still got a ways to go.

once again thanks for your replies guys  stay safe!!

I have RLS, and its definitely not helped by workouts or believing I can make it just go away. I do find that it tends to be less severe when i sleep on my back or stomach, and I pay less attention to the pain if I consume cannabis. SOmetimes my leg muscles will contract and get stuck in such a posistion causing extreme pain, and I have no control of stopping this action. It merely stops contracting after about 10 minutes or so. These symptoms run throughout my family, going back at least 2 generations, it could go further, but everyone has passed away. I was wondering if there was any research being done to provide medicinal cannabis for RLS patients?

I have it intermittently. The feeling if I don't twitch my leg I'll jump out of my skin. In my case, it's always a matter of sleep deprivation or bad nutrition. As long as I eat well and remember to sleep on a regular schedule, I'm fine.

A good friend has found ortega and grape ape to be 2 strains that help get a decent night sleep. Not sure if it's reducing the RLS episodes or just helping induce a deeper level of sleep.

I used to get this ALL the time......

I used to get this ALL the time......

Yeah....... I used to have RLS a few times a week.

With me it was the tingly gotta move or it will drive you nuts sorta creeping feeling in my legs. (Drive you freakin' BATTY)

Funny thing is I quit drinking all those stupid energy drinks and now??? I hardly ever get it.

I'm sure that RLS covers a whole BUNCH of different things and they're all just lumped together because docs just don't know.

IME it probably has to do with additives in my food. I still get it occasionally when I eat something that's pre-packaged. Not that often but just enough that I'm really not interested in eating canned or packaged crud.

Just my experience. Hope it helps someone :rasta:

Mine seems to come and go. Within a couple hours before bed I can tell if I'll have trouble falling a sleep. It truly is hell. I will get up and walk around, rub my legs furiously, wrap a heating blanket around them, but the second I am idle the urge returns.

My heart goes out to those who experience this on a regular basis.

Well, well seems that I was right in my first post in 2005:

Many doctors express the view that the incidence of restless leg syndrome is exaggerated by manufacturers of drugs used to treat it

Gamaldo CE, Earley CJ (November 2006). "Restless legs syndrome: a clinical update". Chest 130 (5): 1596–604. doi:10.1378/chest.130.5.1596 PMID 17099042

Some of the controversy results from the fact that certain pharmaceutical companies used medical representatives (i.e., salespeople) to perform investigations into the treatment of RLS, even though those companies had no licensed treatments for the condition. Some of the controversy results from the fact that certain pharmaceutical companies used medical representatives (i.e., salespeople) to perform investigations into the treatment of RLS, even though those companies had no licensed treatments for the condition.
Further, GlaxoSmithKline ran advertisements that, whilst not promoting off-license use of their drug (ropinerole) for treatment of RLS, did link to the Eckbom Support Group website. That website contained statements advocating the use of Ropinerole to treat RLS. The ABPI ruled against GSK in this case
Woloshin S, Schwartz L (2006). "Giving legs to restless legs: a case study of how the media helps make people sick". PLoS Med. 3 (4): e170. doi:10.1371/journal.pmed.0030170. PMID 16597175
Templeton, Sarah-Kate (August 6, 2006). "Glaxo's cure for 'restless legs' was an unlicensed drug". Times Online (Times Newspapers Ltd.). http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article601394.ece. Retrieved on 2009-07-24.
The U.S. National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke publishes an information sheet] characterizing the syndrome but acknowledging it as a difficult diagnosis. Some physicians doubt that RLS actually exists as a legitimate clinical entity, but believe it to be a kind of "catch-all" category, perhaps related to a general heightened sympathetic nervous system response that could be caused by any number of physical or emotional factors

`The non-drug musculoskeletal approach has been developed by a small group of doctors working at the London College of Osteopathic Medicine, London, UK and appears to produce relief of symptoms in 80–90% of patients:

`specific type of gentle manipulation could relieve their symptoms.
MASSAGE, EXERCISE, STRETCHING etc…

`This non drug treatment approach is free of the side effects associated with many of the drug treatments outlined above.`
Stretching
´Stretching the muscles in the legs can bring instant relief. When you stand up and bend over, make your hands reach for the ground (touch your toes if you can). Hold the position for 10-15 seconds. Repeat this 3 times. There is a theory that Restless Legs are caused by the muscles shrinking to a point where they 'get too short', creating tension which leads to the Restless leg symptoms.´
Pharmaceuticals (DRUGS)
For those whose RLS disrupts or prevents sleep or regular daily activities, medication may be required. Many doctors currently use, and the Mayo Clinic algorithm includes,[35] medication from four categories:
1. Dopamine agonists such as ropinirole, pramipexole, carbidopa/levodopa or pergolide. Ropinirole (Requip) was first approved In 2005 by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat moderate to severe Restless Legs Syndrome. The drug was first approved for Parkinson's disease in 1997. Pramipexole (Mirapex, Sifrol, Mirapexen in the EU) received a positive recommendation by the EU Scientific Committee in February 2006. The FDA approved Mirapex for sale in the US in 2006. Rotigotine (Neupro), which is delivered by a transdermal patch was approved by the FDA in May 2007 for early stage Parkinson's disease; it is not yet approved for RLS in the US. Rotigotine (Neupro), was approved for sale in the EU in 2007 for not only advanced stage Parkinson's disease but also for RLS. There are some issues with the use of dopamine agonists. Dopamine agonists may cause augmentation. This is a medical condition where the drug itself causes symptoms to increase in severity and/or occur earlier in the day. Dopamine agonists may also cause rebound, when symptoms increase as the drug wears off. Also, a recent study indicated that dopamine agonists used in restless leg patients can lead to an increase in compulsive gambling.[39]
2. Opioids such as propoxyphene, oxycodone, or methadone, and mainly tramadol
3. Benzodiazepines, which often assist in staying asleep and reducing awakenings from the movements
4. Anticonvulsants, which often help people who experience the RLS sensations as painful, such as carbamazepine[40]
Recently, several major pharmaceutical companies are reported to be marketing drugs without an explicit approval for RLS, which are "off-label" applications for drugs approved for other diseases. The Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation[41] received 44% of its $1.4 million in funding from these pharmaceutical groups[42]
ONE ILL- MANY PILL!
What is interesting to me is the following:
Differences in dopamine- and iron-related markers have also been demonstrated in the cerebrospinal fluid of individuals with RLS.[5] A connection between these two systems is demonstrated by the finding of low iron levels in the substantia nigra of RLS patients, although other areas may also be involved.[6]]
This is exactly OPPOSITE to the etiology of Parkinsons Disease (PD) where HIGH iron conc. in the substantia nigra is responsible for dopaminergic cell death.
Have your Iron tested
Ferritin = Fr transport protein
Iron supplements
According to some guidelines, all people with RLS should have their ferritin levels tested; ferritin levels should be at least 50 µg for those with RLS. Oral iron supplements, taken under a doctor's care, can increase ferritin levels. For some people, increasing ferritin will eliminate or reduce RLS symptoms. A ferritin level of 50 µg is not sufficient for some sufferers and increasing the level to 80 µg may greatly reduce symptoms. However, at least 40% of people will not notice any improvement. Treatment with IV iron is being tested at the US Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospital. It is dangerous to take iron supplements without first having ferritin levels tested, as many people with RLS do not have low ferritin and taking iron when it is not called for can cause iron overload disorder, potentially a very dangerous condition.[38]
´indicating that different genetic or environmental factors, including diet, may play a role in the prevalence of this syndrome.´
EAT HEALTHY
Increased excitability:
´One study has shown that RLS patients have increased rather than the normal decreased spinal cord excitability during sleep and this fits with the osteopathic concept of spinal facilitation postulated by Korr. Specific types of manipulation appear to reduce this excessive sensory input and relieve symptoms. This non drug treatment approach is free of the side effects associated with many of the drug treatments outlined
reduce excessive sensory input = TV, COMPUTER
If herb doesn’t help u with RSL that means that you are desensitized to it (smoking every day?).
Try melatonin or 5-OH tryptamine instead of the nassty anti-Parkinsons drugs that cause heart failure.

In the worst case, treatment with small doses of LSD, psylocibin, ayhuasca will certainly help – they are all serotonine/dopamine agonists and will have a calming/tonic effect in the long run. Subpsychodelic doses!
Stress/tension/overexcitibilty - prayer/meditation
Acupuncture does the trick sometimes

Good luck!

i wanna lay down and go to sleep but my legs wanna run around the block :

That's how I've always tried to describe it when it happens to me. Fortunately, with me it's a rare occurrence. Even so it sucks big time when it happens. I had a bout of RLS this week and couldn't get to sleep for four nights. This was the first time in a long time, it's been years since the last occurrence, and it went away after four nights. But, damn, when it kicks in there's no way I can sleep. It just keeps going all night long.

From my own experience (I get leg cramps at night), I've found relief by cutting down or stopping my caffeine intake (mainly coffee - tea isn't so bad). Also exercise helps - take a long walk.

I'm sure many of us are more sedentary than we should be and add to that intake of caffeine that adds to stress & sleeplessness, and it compounds this problem.

Many of you may have a slightly different set of symptoms, so this may not relieve your problems, but it can't hurt!

Heavy doses of strong cannabis will certainly help, in my experience.

I suffer from RLS in my left leg only. I also tap my feet or shake my legs when im bored or sitting on the computer. There is a big difference. My RLS can be so bad i just want to scream and even cry in some cases. If you suffer from it, you will know all about it. I do find some strains to iritate my RLS more.

The restless leg thing is definitely real. Anyone who has experienced the kicky legs when going through opiate withdrawal...that is exactly it, maybe not quite as severe as when going cold turkey, but it was bloody annoying long before I ever took smack. It is something that has happened to me since I was small. It is really hard to describe, just a strange sensation, not pain but you absolutely have to move your fookin leg or it drives you bananas.
I twitch too, one night I was cuddled up to a hot young thing, and I twitched and kneed her straight in the undercarriage. Apparently not having balls does not stop a whack to that area from being painful.
Of course the pharma companies will play it up more than it is, but it is a real thing. A twitch is not it, but anybody who has ever felt it, knows what it is.
They can publish all the studies they like, but I know what I experience. I never called it RLS, it was just something strange that happens to me in bed.

Folate

I have mild RLS from time to time. In my situation it is a magnesium deficiency. I know that magnesium and folic acid are useful for RLS. Take a look at/read the anecdotal reviews on Amazon about a product called Calms by Peter Gillhams. I mention that one brand because it is easy to research but any magnesium citrate product should be similar
Here is a link to earthclinic with their page on RLS: http://www.earthclinic.com/cures/rls-restless-leg-syndrome.html
