Troubled Waters

like the title says ur bro has some troubled ass water around here,literally...

its like this, about a month or so back the city i live in had a water issue...couldnt drink it,couldnt shower w it,couldnt wash dishes w it etc...had to use bottled water for everything.the situation was something to do with algae bloom in the water that we use or whatever....that lasted a few days, then they said the water was safe to wash w drink etc....but there is a problem with gardening with it for sure...whatever theyre treating it with is no good for the grow.it even has a soapy kind of smell to it.

ever since then ive had issues with getting cuts to root in my cloner...also the last runs of p1 and angel og were so pretty, stinky, and they had almost zero taste...had me dumbfounded until i realized it HAS to be the water...i didnt do anything different then i ususally do,but the garden is looking like shit in my eyes...i mean if u look at them, they look healthy, theyre green, and they have structure, its that i know at this point of their cycle they should be much more fuller and fatter.also i have noticed that the tips of leafs are looking like they have nute burn, they dont though because like i said i aint doing anyhting different then ive done in the last years and years, but the garden is looking like i am.

what i need is some advice, ideas, input, personal experience of how i can remedy this situation.

as far as the cloners go i can easily go get gallons of good water and fill them with that and that should get my cloners back in gear.

the problem i have is with flower,i sometimes use 30+ gallons at a time between both rooms if everything needs fed/watered...i was thinking about getting an R.O. machine but then someone in chat told me that them things have so much waste and take so long to make 30 gallons that i might end up going thru 300 gallons of water just to get my 30...if thats the case thats a shitload of water id waste and have to pay for....

there is a aquasina filtration system at home depot that the brother Batty linked me to that im thinkin i might need to get.
but if anyone else has any other suggestions im all ears yo.
what im most worried about is getting the taste back in there, lets face it,tasty weed is more comforting then bland weed no matter where we are yo.

ill take some pics but like i said, other then a few burnt tips there aint much that looks wrong with them, its the point of what stage theyre at and how little they are at the stages...its all off.

ive been in there looking for light leaks,none...ive changed the bulbs on one side doing the other side this week,i really doubt thats it...
even the last round of p1 was huge but the taste wasnt there...this round i have in there atm is at day 30 and they look not even half the size as the other round at this time.

lookin for some all pro advice...my only option i see as far as starting something tomorrow is go and get myself about 60 gallons of water somewhere and do that a couple times a week...
just stack the water up and keep it all on hand.

was hoping some folks closer to the ocean or something maybe has had this happen to them before, this is the first time anything like this has happened around here.

any questions u have that might help you give me some better insight, fire away im glad to answer whatever might help me get this in check...thanks in advance.

no not 30 gallons a day,but on some days i MAY use up to 30+ gallons,if everything needs attention.

ppm,not sure but the ph used to be around 7.8 coming out the tap....now its at around 10.0 and even after i ph it to 7.0 if i let it sit overnight it will be 7.8 by the next day...

Shop for RO units. Most only waste about 5 to 1. Are you sure that RO will remove whatever it is that's in your water that wasn't there before? Good luck. -granger

I just want to add my experience with an RO filter. not only did it waste a TON of water, it took me close to 16 hours to get maaaaybe 3.5 gallons at 40-60 psi depending on the water pump pressure and if someone was using it or not while also using the RO filter. I used it maybe twice and couldn't get enough water to fill my 25g rez after a few days. I don't even care much about sustainability and it was so wasteful, I turned it off. the amount of money spent on electricity pumping the water could be instead used towards having distilled water delivered to your house maybe in bulk?? worth checking out possibly. best wishes to your solution!!

Don't mess around. Get the 1000 gal a day ro unit. Cost a bit more but I can fill a 93 gallon water tank in 3 hours 10 minutes. The smaller units are ok and I used one for years but it was taking anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour to fill a 5 gallon jug depending on outside temps.
Wish I had gotten the 1K a day years ago.

after 9/11 i noticed my tap smelled like chlorine but took no notice

my plants during that run declined

i always had fish tank conditioner since i had been into fish since i was a kid, I used it and everything was back to normal

the one i linked also has a lil bit of aloe

I bubble my water for days in lieu of using treatment but I still keep it around in case

the last issue i had was an offgassing clone tray lol fucking never ends

:thank you: resinryder and stoney917!! the calcium in my water really messes with my ph if I use the outdoor faucets and the indoor faucet makes for a big bitch to fill and still isn't adequate.

Weird: the water stuff suggestion was great too and I need to tell my aunt about that.

THANKS Y'ALL

Theres a thread in here somewhere where someone used a Mr Clean spot free car rinsing device to filter water. I forget the thread/poster's name...but he claimed it took 300+ppm tap water to 15ppm with no waste water. Cost of mr clean spot free thingy less than $22 on eBay, and replacement filter cartridges was less than $6 I believe.
Going to try it out myself in several weeks.

Perhaps a two step process might work...

1. Add chlorine to your water (this kills the algae bloom).
2. Then add sodium ascorbate (vitamin C) to remove the chlorine.

Approximately 2.8 parts of sodium ascorbate are required to neutralize 1 part chlorine and no filter required. For 20 gallons of water I use about 0.63 grams of sodium ascorbate to neutralize the chlorine...my levels range between 1-3 PPM.

The attached pdf is the USDA pamphlet, Using Vitamin C To Neutralize Chlorine in Water Systems that tells the tale.

BTW...sodium ascorbate neutralizes the chlorine immediately--no waiting required, and is pH neutral.

that sounds complicated...even for me :D

Agree, to get from "2.8 parts of sodium ascorbate for each 1 part chlorine" to..."how grams per gallon?"--requires some math and for you to determine the water's chlorine ppm level (water districts publish water quality reports with high/low data in ppm form).

Assume--
1 ppm = 1 mg/l (water)
1 gallon = 3.785 liters

Then in terms of "ppm/gallon" the relationship is--
1 ppm = 3.785 mg/gallon

(OK so far?)

For each ppm of chlorine....2.8 ppm of sodium ascorbate will be required. Then in terms of milligrams per gallon, the equation would be:

(# gallons of water) x (ppm of chlorine) x (sodium ascorbate ratio....2.8) x (liter to gallon ratio....3.785), or--

1 gallon water with 1 ppm of chlorine:

1 x 1 x 2.8 x 3.785 = 10.59 mg.

20 gallons water with 3 ppm of chlorine:

20 x 3 x 2.8 x 3.785 = 635.88 mg
...which is the same as 0.635 grams (barely 1/4 teaspoon).

Health food stores (like Mothers) is a good place to find 100% pure crystalline powder (I bought 8 oz jar for less than $10).
