FLIR used in Daytime

flir just 'sees' heat. Can work day or night, fog kinda messes up its effectiveness.

it would make sense that at night its more likely to have a greater temperature difference, thus making it easier to find.

in hotter summer heat it is nowhere near as effective at detecting the heat differential between a cool outer wall & the heat from lamps on the inner walls. I'd bet that if you had a growbox in an inner room, well-insulated/reflectorized & a good A/C in that room, that they would play hell detecting it. JMHO am interested in others views on this however, as my mind is open...

lol, I was just thinking the same thing: "it (FLIR) is nowhere near as effective" during the daytime, unless you are running loads of lights

Daytime huh..that won't show much ...maybe steam coming outta a winter bed room window ..and loud panting noises, typical of Canadians or Siberians copulating ...lol

can FLIR see IR LEDS from A Security Camera.. or another source for IR LEDS. ? I figure.. if it picks it up like a normal Security Camera does.. .. with a normal security camera or camera.. if u put a few IR LEDS on the rim of a hat.. it will show a light over your face.. making it impossible to identify you..

is this something that FLIR pics up? if so .. do they see a lil dot for the LED.. or does it do the same thing to a FLIR CAMERA that it does to a normal camera.?

Insulation helps and dispersing heat.
Hell yeah! I think many growers don't pay enough attention to this. Believe me if the cops are starting to spy on you with a FLIR than it's already too late, this is just a part of an investigation. With this its easily for them to get a warrant.

They work along with the power companies, when a power company sees some weird power "usage" they will tip the cops about a possible growing operation. Even if you pay or steal the electricity, this have been happened many times here in my country. Thats the reason why the police uses flir, they wont get a warrant because some one uses every 12 hours 1800watt.

As for the guys who steal electricity it will take longer to discover them. The power company will notice the stolen electricity and they will also know in which region or sector it has happened. If they file a complaint at the police department the police will start an investigation.

The first thing they will do is to check who is new in the district, who has rented a house around the period the electricity started to get missing. Who of these people has a criminal record, who of these people has been convicted for drugs/marijuana. How many people are involved? If they track someone they'll know which house he has rented, they get a flir camera and get as many proof as they can. They will even search your trashcan for clues. All of this will be used against the grower in court.

In this country growing weed is very popular since the crisis a lot of people start to grow for a financial reason. Only this week they have busted 4 growing sites. 2 weeks ago they have busted one guy in my street and took his tent with 10 plants. Last day I was walking to the grocery store I saw some one who dumped his air tubes, fans and other growing gear. This is very common over here.

If I read the news on how these people got busted I always notice the police has been tipped (some one who doesn't like you knew about your growing site and have spoke to the police) or people have been complaining about weed odor, noise or water leakage. These are the main reasons people get busted. Don't tell anyone of your hobby (or job lol), isolate your entire room so no water, smell or noise will escape.

I would say if you're a commercial grower and rent a house use it only for 2 or 3 harvests and leave. I got waaay of topic but you get the idea about isolation.

This is a great example of how the FLIR camera works:

I bet if this guy had everything properly isolated he wouldn't have been busted at all. Here is an another example:

You see this is how they can bust you with a FLIR camera. Also if you grow in an attic make sure you isolate it well. This next example is one of my favorites about people who grow weed in a bad isolated attic.

The snow will start to melt because the heat can escape through the roof. Believe me or not every winter people get caught just because of this.

At the topic starter, I have noticed it too. I was watching a real life show on TV where the police busts car thieves etc. I noticed when a helicopter starts to chase the fugitives they use a FLIR camera, whether it's day or night the flir always work.
