that reminds me of a sad situation many yrs ago, a black friend of mine (Roy) was considerably older than me but couldn't read, he hung out @ the bar where I worked and would have to 'fake it' if/when someone stuck a newspaper article or comic strip under his nose, or he'd claim to not have his glasses on him.

When prompted to read something Roy would scrunch his face in concentration and then shake his head in feigned disbelief muttering his supposed thoughts to himself, or if it was a comic strip he'd do the same thing, make his 'I'm reading' face and then burst out laughing, most of us that knew this wouldn't fuck with him but there were a few patrons less generous with their compassion.

it's another 4 paragraphs to explain how I remedied the above issue, but the FIX was swift and sweet. PM me if you want to know the rest of the story, it's not exactly suitable for repeating here.......
