Alright here's an update: so its been a couple weeks now and the girls have grown there roots back but there still a little tan towards the netpot. Maybe I should give them another h2o2 bath? Notice the translucency of the fine root hairs makes me believe that they still have a minor infection but that down seem to be preventing them from growing up top. Looking back at my journals when this root rot or damage had happened noticed that I had just done a res change. I believe that when I did this change I mixed the nutrients in the system with the live plants and not in a separate 'res like I normally do. Im using ro water and when I add the nutrients the ph drops to about 4.0 then I add the next parts of the line-up and it drops to 3.5 then I ph up the system and the next day its about 5.8ph I think that pretty much fried my root system. Im still scared to use hormex lol but it seems the orca beneficial myco and bacterium have been doing there thing and really been breaking down those decaying organics.

Ive also lowered the water level of the system 1" below the net pot. Just to be safe. Seems like chopping those roots made em come back twice to 3 times as thick as before.

thanks, well ive decided the use the general hydro flora 3 part on these cause i ran out of DM
im using it in a 1:1:1 ratio in veg and plan to use 1:2:3 1-4 weeks of flower, 0:1:2 for weeks 5-6 with liquid koolbloom. Then finish then out with the dry koolbloom. what ya think?

Well you guessed it, its root rot again. these benificals in the bottle are not working so ive brewed up some ewc tea. ive chopped the roots again because well they pretty much just fell off. check it out. ive moved em back to veg so there going threw hormonal stress cause the 12/12 flip and are pretty droppy. I've got the water level half way up the netpot to try and let the tea work at that nasty rot. im gonna grab some hydrozyme tmr also to further help the breakdown. im considering going completly sterile but ive got a new pre veg system that might change that. im gonna try it sterile for once.its a ebb and flow table like snype does on here.

My thoughts are this. When you first showed this system I thought it was rather novel and built one like it with parts I have in my shop except I used a danner 1200 mag pump and there was something that I felt was a potential problem. Well once I got it all running I threw in some tennis balls and noticed they were bouncing all over the place hard and not in that lazy river effect that is supposed to happen. So I believe that your problem may lie with too much turbulence in the water that is damaging your roots. So I put the pump on a rheostat (inline fan speed controller) and dialed it down until the turbulence eased off. Also I understand you were just trying to get away without using air stones because of the nice bubble action you were creating at the higher GPH, but I would reconsider that as well if you decide to dial it down as my quick copy of your system has good readings from all my meters. I also noticed that you are using a smaller version of the chilling coil/wort chiller that I am using. I would suggest that you use the larger coils as they are more efficient and have better performance than the smaller ones that the grow shops gouge us for. http://www.amazon.com/Super-Efficient-Stainless-Steel-Chiller/dp/B004D4QPQW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411307637&sr=8-1&keywords=stainless+steel+wort+chiller Also I was curious if you are using R/O water or not and what testing/monitoring equipment you have in this system?

Dr.Tone you should try breed your own beneficial microbe tea. I did that when root rot appear and have no problems ever since.
There are several threads about it over the internet ;)
For my mix i use: GHE biopic mix (trichoderma), Trabe MycoPlant Polvo Grow (Mycorrhiza), a bottled pre-made liquid ewc tea from GHE (forgot name) and a local powder with bacillus inside. Works like a charm.

Mechanical damage to the otherwise healthy root system is an open door for root pathogens..

Try firing down around the edges. Or ideally have a remote res where you can have all the turbulence you desire to create dissolved oxygen, then simply move the saturated nutrient solution around without causing root damage..

Peace

Exactly! The system is sound, it just has too much boom boom!
